Title: Mighty Number Nine: Inafune Strikes Back
Post by: CHAOS_FANTAZY on September 01, 2013, 12:55:10 AM
There's been a lot of talk about where Mega Man is going lately, and the general consensus seems to be "nowhere fast."  With his recent inclusion in Smash4, unsureness has stirred up once more.  Regardless of whether or not CapCom can be trusted, however, I think it would be in everyone's best interest to know:  Inafune has not abandoned us.

http://kotaku.com/heres-the-spiritual-successor-to-mega-man-youve-alway-1233564815

The video explains it best, but basically, Mega Man's back—just under a brand new face.  There's a Kickstarter going on right now for the new game, and it's got a bit of a price tag associated with it, so I felt it would be a good idea to spread it as quickly as possible.  Are you excited to hear about this?

I've been trying to think of something clever to say but my own thoughts keep lapping around themselves and I don't really know how to express the joy I'm feeling right about now.

I guess I could start with "Welcome back."

I'm so ecstatic about hearing that something like this is in production and I cannot wait to hear more about it.

For me, its a big troll (its pretty LIKE megaman games), Inafune CAN do it, but the problem is: If capcom doesnt make any Megaman games soon, it can be ugly for us.

Inafune is not the problem, he can do it (his own c.right) but it's maybe bad for megaman? I feel that like a "official" rival game or competitor.....

The game looks cool too, need to see the soundtrack but i will be always with megaman (i hope). :p

It looks awesum.
It was cool to see some of the redesigned forms of some of the characters.
And as Emmanuel said, this might it's own competitor.

THIS PROJECT WILL NOT FAIL!!!

2015 seems like a long wait, but still, the concept art is quite lovely. I'm rooting for the success of this project.

I find heavy irony in this Kickstarter project. Why?
IT'S A MEGAMAN RIPOFF, CREATED BY THE CREATOR OF MEGAMAN!

Honestly, i hope this bland ripoff never sees the light of day.

I find it as much of a ripoff as Rokko-chan. But I don't see any way to judge how bland it is right now.

Excuse me?

It's the creator of the franchise taking back the glory that he earned.

It's not him creating a "rival" franchise, it's him giving back to the fans what they trusted him for. Many broken dreams were established with Legends 3's cancellation, and he's basically apologizing to everyone for Capcom's ignorance. He's doing this by giving a similar claim to fame with Legends 3 in which the fans had a lot of close ties to the establishment of the game itself. If anything this game should be treated as a new Mega Man series rather than an alien bootleg made to draw in Mega Man fans.

If it's made by the creator, how exactly is it a "ripoff"? It's meant to be a spiritual successor, as Capcom is doing little with the series at the moment.

EDIT: Llama beat me to it. Oh well.

I find it interesting that instead of just changing colors with new weapons, Beck's entire body morphs into different shapes. Apparently he can also get little powerups from his enemies. Kinda like Kirby, perhaps?

This looks sort of silly to me but that's probably because I don't see this as being akin to Mega Man. I won't really decide what I think of it until I see more of it.

I'm gonna say it once, and I'm gonna say it once:

This is Mega Man Universe. This is it, but without two key things: the Mega Man franchise AND the DLC rentability model (for the time being, as it's barely a comceptual project right now). The dream game Inafune talked about in the introduction video is NOT Mega Man Legends 3: it's Mega Man Universe. Ask yourself what was Mega Man Universe as gameplay and comcept you're concerned, and then compare to the key aspect of the Mighty No. 9 overarching gameplay comcept.

I certainly hope this thing is successfull. It kinda shows that game franchises are nothing by themselves, but rather it is the well-spirited fan support and the artistic aspect of development that keeps them alive. Without 'em, they're as alive as an emotion-less golem.

This is as much of a Mega Man ripoff as Jax & Daxter are a ripoff of Crash Bandicoot. BREOCK AND CRAOLL. CONETOOLS. BARIAVLE BODY SYSTEM. DOCTOR RONG. MIGHTY KID. AEROLL: those are some of the things that rushed in my mind as Mighty No. 9 was presented to me. This is a spiritual sequel to the Mega Man franchise. Not the classic Mega Man series, but the franchise overall.

This is the phrase "if it was the same game but a different robot, it would ___" turned into a real thing.

Also fucking Manami Matsumae is helping with the soundtrack. Also Inti Creates and Comcept are both working on this thing, so they're also funding it.

Capcom is waaaay toooo dumb to apologize so the creator takes it upon himself to regain forgiveness.

Ripoff... Ripoff?... RIPOFF?!?

RIPOFF?!?!?! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0WvJrEuJTk)

It's not a ripoff at all. Megaman rightfully belongs to Inafune, but Capcom legally owns it and its characters. In fact, if you watched the video, Inafune says he's making it for US. Fans that are disappointed with Capcom's lack of attention towards megaman. Sure, it's a different face, but at least we'll be getting the game knowing that it was made the way it's meant to be. I for one will wait for this, and hope for the best with this project. As a megaman fan, this will receive my full support.

I am thrilled with it.

Good graphics, mega man-esque gameplay, not 8 bit, etc. This is what I've been waiting for from a "Mega Man" game. What would never occur because the bulk of the fanbase screams for 8 bit. I got tired of 8 bit. MM9 ate up all my 8 bit nostalgia. This is exactly what Mr. X and I would always sit around discussing when it came to a future mega man title. I am excited and I pray this gets financed. Only Kickstarter thing I found worthy of my funding.

I think it's a great idea as well! Megaman 10 was a blast for me (and I made an enemy with Blademan but whatever), Inafune and co.will be able to pull this off and make it awesome.
It will be one of the best retro-esque platformers.

So, will Megaman 8-bit Deathmatch v8 (Mighty Number Nine Expansion) be running on something 3d, like Darkplaces or Unreal?

I really like how the artstyle is equally reminiscent of not only Classic Mega Man, but also of all the spinoffs (A lot of the designs remind me of Mega Man Zero in particular.)

My only real worry is how much this game intends to emulate the classic Mega Man. I'd be rather disappointed if it was just your standard Mega Man classic game with shinier graphics (although I suppose that's probably exactly what other people want out of this project), without deviating from the standard formula too much. Inafune has room to experiment and truly make this a Mega Man game for the 21st century, and squandering that opportunity to merely make Mega Man 11 with a fancier artstyle would be a bit of a let-down.

It's sad. Inafune clearly wanted to make more megaman games but working at Capcom he could not. But this is the closest we can get for a new classic 2d megaman game. It may not have it's name, but it has it's blood.

Even though this is a blatant middle finger to Capcom, I actually approve of what Inafune's doing. I plan on dropping around 100$ whenever I get money on my account.

Also, Capcom isn't going to give up the rights to Megaman easily...well, less they get fed up with the bullcrap by the fans (Hint: Not in our lifetime, maybe, but who knows when they'll hit their point of insanity.)

Mighty Number 86. :P

I have absolutely nothing to add to this except it looks awesome. I sympathize with Inafune and I think this is something good for everyone, both the developers and the fans. I also like that "Beck and Call" are still musical references but could also imply some level of servitude, such as with robots. +1 Saw What You Did Thar.

It's ridiculous when people think He was the creator of the serie and Megaman (just his design), ok, he did the design of Megaman, but it's like if you say "mario created the videogame", no, there was videogames before mario.

The megaman serie wasnt only 1 guy, ok.
A lot of people think Megaman is dead because they want so quickly a game to finish like a PS3/Xbox trophy (like nothing) They bury megaman as they never knew it.
I don't think Megaman IS dead, Capcom did a lot of things with others, like Megaman Archie, a lot of goodies, Megaman games on Wiiware and others (till mm6, mmgb5), and im pretty sure, if they want make a megaman games, it wont be only a single player game with HD graphism 2D (:
I remember Rockman Online who was shut down, i hope, this kind of game can born now (because, create servers is very expensive). And there is a lot of fangame to spend the time, like mm unlimited, mm revolution and others, but people BURY TOO FAST MEGAMAN.

And you know, it makes me laugh, Mighty n°913244 wont be release before spring 2015...so........
I hope Capcom will wake up quickly to show how megaman is awesome, and we will see who are the true fans (:

I have nothing against this game, but for me, it's not more than a ZX game. Not a true megaman game.

EDIT:

Sorry im a little mad because im crazy i see people say "Megaman is dead, now it's Mighty n°9"....seriously?
Title: Re: Mighty Number Nine: Inafune Strikes Back
Post by: LlamaHombre on September 02, 2013, 02:52:56 AM
Well, Inafune's the "face" of Mega Man. People are generally judged instantly based on their face. The body is important too, but the face gives it a layer of personality that may or may not correspond to the inner person. In this case, the "body" of the production is, well, Mega Man. The same level designer, the composer from the first two games, guys who worked on X3, 9 and 10, Star Force, etc. It's easily seen how one draws connections between the two. I could easily classify this as a Mega Man subseries and it would fit in perfectly to me alongside the gems of the past.

It's moreso that Mega Man's been neglected rather than dead. Smash 4, the Archie Comics, and to an extent SFxMM are the only high points the Blue Bomber has had since MM10's release. Mega Man's never going to flat out die, it's had way too many successes and left such a legacy to flat out die. It would be like if the Metroid series were to die out just because Other M crashed.

If one really wanted to draw a parallel to Mega Man, then quite honestly I'd say this falls closest to Battle Network. It has the same feel as Mega Man, but the characters and storylines are nearly 100% different. It's closest to Classic in terms of structure, I'm not even going to try to deny that, but I could very easily see Beck and Mega Man standing side by side. I'd also argue that the ZX series is more "True Mega Man" than the X series, but that's irrelevant.

On a more positive note, 700K and counting!

Battle Network was totaly different and i have never seen "battle network" fans said " MM Classic is dead, Battle network replace it!"
But now, i can see a lot of people on facebook or some forums who say "Classic is dead and is replaced by Mighty n9, Mighty 9 rules!"
It's stressing.

But sure, if capcom dont show any new megaman games before Spring 2015 (release date for Mighty 9, lol), i will be ok with mighty 9, but it wont replace megaman for me.... :/

EDIT: Crazy thing: Tom pon and Matsumae is with Keiji project, so, they left Capcom ? O_o
Damn, capcom lost all the best guy/women for the serie........maybe Eguchi later?.....and then...megaman licence?.... :q

Funny to notice how Capcom is sorry in this satire article. That's the kind of moments I'd donate the most as I can, and then wait while days or months to read what's new on Capcom and Keiji's sides. It looks like Comcept (Keiji's new company) has got most of the Mega Man creators on their side along with Keiji's departure from Capcom, the Kickstarter page evensay they're extremely experienced in game gameplay/design. Even if Beck is said to be the new Mega Man, and is made by the hands of Mega Man's creator (Dr. Light a.k.a "Keiji"), I'm quite sad about it, because of the brand new series starting. It reminds me of that bad ending of Mega Man X5 where I cried a lot ; Both X and Zero were critically damaged, and Zero died for saving X from Sigma, inheritting his sword to X. But in most of the Mega Man series, there's someone sacrifying (usually for the hero) and saying he'll always be here for him, even dead. Well, that's the same here for Mega and Beck. I hope all this will end good...

And, I've been finding some medias about Mega Man and Beck (I don't own them !). I'm not responsible for feelings attack.

And thus $1,200,000 was hit. Mighty Number 9 got Powered Up and now we will have eight bosses to fight before taking on the fortress instead of six. Hopefully some of you got the reference I made in my last statement...

I'm probably going to end up committing 120 to 250 dollars just to get at least all the normal goodies especially the guide. I wonder what would be more worth the cost? Having those extremely expensive goodies or being able to have dinner with the creator of Mega Man himself? Either way, it would be kind of hard to imagine who would spend this much money just for one of those prizes unless he/she is like some kind of millionaire or a very very dedicated fan.

Also that 3D artwork is just way too creepy....especially those eyes... o~o How can 2D artwork be transitioned into "that"?

I think it's totally fair to want to wait for more screens, footage, and the actual game to come out before putting faith into Mighty No. 9. Mega Man has a long and proven history, and while there's a lot of excitement surrounding Mighty No. 9, there's already certain aspects where Mega Man wins out for me personally (Robot Master designs are the coolest! The boss designs in MN9 are so cold...)

Of course, it would be silly for Inafune to say MN9 would lose out in a battle; technically speaking, newer technology usually would win out against the old. If it were a nostalgia battle, however... The whole point of that question was just to make an interesting/controversial headline, though.

I think anyone who believes in this new project or who would like to see a next generation Mega Man style game should get involved as soon as possible though! Comcept has been doing an amazing job of reaching out to fans during this early time period, listening and responding to questions and comments, linking and commenting on fan art work, and considering all sorts of views and thoughts about the game. Very soon, there's going to be opportunities for the backers/fans to help shape the game, a rare opportunity that I would love to see all Mega Man fans getting involved in.

oh gog that design

I'm loving how he isn't purely a fire elemental, and the focus is more placed on a burner-type character.  I'm interested to see if this ties into gameplay, as if using a water weapon against him could result in the flames he emits disappearing and reverting him to the first picture's design.

Oh, hey.  This was a booming success.  My dad suspected they would have trouble raising the last ~300,000-200,000...imagine his reaction when they got it in but three days.

I've yet to donate but I totally plan to buy in with at least $40.  In the meantime, I know this is like two thousand years back in time for you guys, but I've finally solidified my opinion on the Call designs.  1 is my favorite in descending order.
6 just registers as an Alia ripoff to me.
5 is a Roll ripoff, and Roll > Alia but I'd really like Call to be original-looking (And not have Roll Syndrome).
4 is...okay, I guess...she looks like a combat medic, and I guess that's alright, but I don't like her color scheme.
3 is getting there, but I think her hair looks dumb.
2 is really good, but it's a bit too fearsome for the role, and the color scheme isn't quite where it should be.
1 is my favorite mix between friendly and fearsome. Her demeanor is like Roll's but there's something in her eyes, I think the color scheme helps too, that makes her look like she's...serious. Focused. Like she could just as easily punch you as hug you. And I like that.
Title: Re: Mighty Number Nine: Inafune Strikes Back

I'm excited for the Call design poll; hope it keeps at least all of those design choices and maybe has some more too! I think I like the pink haired one the least, but she has an Eddie back-pack so frik!

Roll look-alike, big-wing headphones, and green hair rock tho.

I like the "3" and "1" designs. The rest not so much.

I like the Roll-clone most, too.

But I'd say that should give Call unlockable styles that look like the other proposed options, and let players unlock them by more or less getting achievements.
Ys OiF and Origin had something like that as a reward, and Roll had multiple different clothing styles in MMPU.
Title: Re: Mighty Number Nine: Inafune Strikes Back

The "2" design comes off to me as being a villain or even a rival to Beck. Otherwise, I prefer the the "3", "4" and Roll designs the most. It would definitely be cool if Call could have multiple unlockable clothing styles.

It's mentioned that he's shooting at you throughout the stage, suggesting boss interference during regular stage gameplay.  I love gameplay mechanics like this, where the boss isn't just some guy sitting in a room waiting to die.

I mentioned this in the General Offtopic Thread, but from what I can infer, all Capcom itself is doing with the board game is handing out the license and approving the things Jasco does (art/alterations/etc.). And this had been in production before M#9's Kickstarter, they just delayed the start of their own Kickstarter to not interfere with M#9's. Said Kickstarter is supposed to help improve the quality of the board game through things like better player pawns and the like. All the information I know of basically comes from these links: http://www.rockman-corner.com/2013/09/licensed-mega-man-board-game.html, http://www.rockman-corner.com/2013/08/more-details-on-mega-man-board-game.html and http://www.rockman-corner.com/2013/07/were-getting-official-mega-man-board.html

Also I really need to actually back M#9 soon but I need my internet connection to cooperate with me. I might back the board game too if I like what they show.

So TL;DR Capcom is handing other companies Megaman and saying "Do something with this thing, make us all money."  Like usual I guess.  As much as I want Megaman to be in SSB4, that's the only reason he's in there.

From what I can tell with a 5 minute Wikipedia search, Level-5 came to Capcom with the idea for Layton vs. Wright, and after a bit they agreed to work on it together (for example, apparently Capcom handled the visual design) . With the board game, I would guess that Jasco came to them with the idea since they apparently already know Capcom due to having a ton of Capcom characters in their ultimate fighter card game thing (including at least one megaman card).

Our issue stems from the fact that instead of an actual Megaman game--in my cause preferably one that wraps up one of the series that hasn't been given an ending--We're getting crossovers and stuff like the board game.

The voting for the Call designs has started.

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/mig ... sts/611851 (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/mightyno9/mighty-no-9/posts/611851)

Most of the previous concept designs have been scrapped though, leaving only the Roll clone (much to my disappointment).
Instead, we've got a slew of new designs to vote for.

I prefer B, personally. E is a close second.

And D has Dr. Wily hair for some reason.

Only one of the previously revealed designs are there!
Which is the one I voted for.

But,only after I voted did I notice that "the D design" looks like she has some sort of Dr. Wily hair thing going on.

I also pledged $286 into this game, so I'll get all the goodies that come with that pledge especially that signed hard covered art book!

Hopefully it has cross-buy between Vita and PS3/4.
Title: Re: Mighty Number Nine: Inafune Strikes Back
Post by: MusashiAA on September 28, 2013, 06:06:30 AM
Well, this thing has an online co-op mode, so it's marginally better than almost every official Classic Mega Man game save for Mega Man: Powered Up and Mega Man X1.

Also Call designs fun fun

Call A is a mix between F, H and I. No.

Call B is really cool, it fits the support role the Call character is supposed to have. It would have to be one of my favorites. I will have to mention though that the lack of colouring left me thinking about her lower body...is she wearing pants or a diaper?

Call C really looks a lot like Beck, being able to attach and use extra tools to her body. But no, C stands for Cut and Centaur, there's this whole Mega Man Universe vibe around it, and the pony shit needs to get the fuck out of my sight.

Call D just oozes Inafune all around it. That, and gothic lolita so NO.

Call E looks like Call B, but is inferior in the same sense as comparing Alia to Maverick Hunter X's Navigator. You remember her, don't you? (http://megaman.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_minor_characters#Navigators). No?

I already voted for Call F. She's pretty much Roll, but not like how Beck is pretty much Rockman, so that's a good thing. She has an unfair advantage of having been exposed for longer than the other designs (pink Call and blonde Call pretty much were the go-to designs of the fanbase), but I'm sure that the other three finalists will put up a fight.

Call G looks cute, but she's far too maid-like, almost on the verge of stereotype. No.

Call H is way too simplistic, and that's not good since she's going to have to team up with Beck for combat, who's design isn't simplistic at all: she looks out of place. Doesn't look like a navigator as well. I'd say it's really uninteresting and would be my least favorite, but Call C and D took that spot already.

Call I is Call.EXE. No.

So in my mind, it goes like this: B>F>A>E>G>H>I>C>D. Voted for F, favorite is B.
Title: Re: Mighty Number Nine: Inafune Strikes Back
Post by: Kage on September 28, 2013, 01:02:13 PM
After looking  at a ton of comments over there, it just seems like F is clearly going to be number one in the polls, but E looks like she has the potential to place second though. So, for the sake of having a different Call to at least place, I ended up choosing B.

If you all haven't voted yet, I would recommend voting against F since she will definitely place as the one of the top Call designs.

Seeing as how we have co-op now, imagining the call you chose as a playable character would obviously sway the vote.  A and B look downright strange to me, and C just looks...creepy.  I dunno.  D looks more like a little girl in her nightgown than an actual fighter to me.  E's alright, but she looks sorta like a flight attendant and I can't take that seriously.  I voted F.  F just seemed to fit with what we've seen, and I can easily see her being paralelled with Beck himself.  G just downright confuses me.  Why, exactly, does she act as a maid?  Would her attack be swinging a broom?  H came the closest, as it's simple and effective.  It was really close deciding between this and F, but familiarity won out in the end.  And what the hell is I?

I think it's important to note that some designs may appear a bit odd simply because of the person who designed them, they'll match the style of the rest of the game when the chosen design is remade and finalized.

No matter what Call design wins, it'll go pretty much like how it went with the entire Mighty Number cast:

Devteam: "We're finished with this character's design, Mr. Inafune! What do you think?"

Inafune: "I like it, but you have to do it like this. *draws a new design based on the devteam's design*"

Devteam: "Wow, we like it a lot! Let's use your design!"

I really like how H looks, but a lot of that is probably the art style too. However, since they only allow 1 vote per IP, it went to F because bro was eager to vote!

I'd honestly be happy with any of em, but it's fun to have a vote like this (and to see people strongly fight for different ones).

You know, why did they decide to scrap the other Calls revealed earlier over these 8 new designs for Call plus the Roll Call, and only let us vote for these new designs? I would think they would let you be able to vote for the earlier designs as well considering they were revealed first. If they made Aero Call available to vote, I'm sure some people would choose her over the Roll Call.

It makes me feel like that even the Comcept team prefer the Roll Call design, and actually planned for Roll Call to be the winner considering they decided to keep her for voting over the other earlier designs. It would definitely make sense if Roll Call did indeed get a majority of the votes for her in the end. Food for thought I guess.

Everything except E through H looks like crap.

A is a NOPE simply because of those massive derptails.

B is an obvious Navigator-only design, plus it looks like something that Konata would buy from a mail-order catalog.

C looks like it's going to kill me in my sleep, plus it has a pony.

D is just wrong-looking, even beyond the Wily hair.

I looks like a generic "AM I KAWAII UGUU" design. We've got too much of that coming out of Japan as it is.

I'm voting for E, simply because that face is giving me PSG vibes.

EDIT: Not like it matters, since F is going to win just because it looks the most like Roll.

Not fond of the artstyle B uses but again.
Artstyle is reflected by the artist who drew it, it'll be tweaked to match the rest of the game if it is picked.

A lot of people want a more strong, competent design for Call since she's going to be Beck's second in command and a playable character.

That's kinda why I voted for B, though. I love playing as goofy looking characters, and B looks very goofy.

Also, both Call B and Call F could end up being redesigned a little to match the feel of combat.

I definitely don't think so. I love cute designs like Kirby. Video games and cartoons are great because you can have cute characters still do awesome things.

I like that Inafune's first order regarding Beck's design was that it should be 'cute'. It's a large part of why classic video games are more appealing to me compared to mainstream games of today.

It ain't often I see game girls with that kinda style going on. It's usually, either flat out super Shantae hot, or super Roll innocent (with many exceptions, of course), so it's nice to see some variety! Even if she's not very likely to win...

It seems like plenty have or could be ported to Vita; the only title that comes to mind is the latest Mortal Kombat, but I'm sure there's others (I'm not familiar with the Vita's library).

For the 3DS though, I can't think of anything. It definitely seems like it would be a lot less capable than the Vita. (There's old news stories boasting how the 3DS could handle Unreal Engine 2...)

Apparently, Comcept would be contracting Abstraction Games to handle the ports, a company which has handled a fair amount of PS3 and PS Vita ports. In the case of Hotline Miami, it sounds like they had to rebuild the engine since the original was done in Game Maker. While I have faith they could handle the Vita port, it does make me wonder how the 3DS version would come about.

Looking at the current stretch goals list, I'm going to guess that the newest mystery stretch goal is having Call being able to play every stage by herself. That would be pretty cool if it is, but I'm not sure if we are going to have any more time to reach that goal though.

The handheld stretch goal was reached! Woo!

I'm honestly lost as to which version I should get, seeing as I'll probably have a 3DS by the game's release.

Well, I was wrong, but a retro soundtrack as a stretch goal doesn't sound way to bad either. The online battle race mode actually sounds pretty fun too.

Wasn't it choosing a colour scheme for the girl, or summit along those lines?

If so, inb4 blond hair with red jacket.

Edit: Actually, I think I'm wrong. Everyone who paid a certain amount will be able to be able to choose from the three winners again, but this time with different colour schemes for each of 'em. So Ceridran clearly paid more attention than me!

Did you watch the whole video? The main issue I see here isn't that she's a mega man fan or not, it's that she's been proven to be inconsistent and even lying. And then removing any evidence that could be used against her. She's shady and the people who put money into the game have every right to want answers.

One of the top comments suggested that since E and F were roughly one percent away from each other in votes, having a vote between just those two designs would help clarify if F truly "won" or if H was detracting from the "not F" votes.

It probably won't happen judging by the organization of the Mighty Backers community as of late, but still, it's an interesting thought.

I'm still not a fan of this game, but i have a two theories on how it will end.

A: The community will skyrocket the sooner the game comes out; and 5-10 weeks before the game comes out, there will be a countdown. And then, when the game is released, the game will have a terrible soundtrack, it will be a bad execution, the game will have a very laggy multiplayer mode, the game's physics will be terrible and everything will have a very small hitbox and it would be very, very cheap. The fans will dwindle, one by one and join the Megaman fandom once more.

B: The community will get so large, that it will eventually be destroyed, mainly due to the Dina Disaster, and a horde of angry megaman fans.
Title: Re: Mighty Number Nine: Inafune Strikes Back
Post by: OtakuAlex on March 26, 2014, 11:00:48 PM
I don't think scenario A is possible since it's made by the same people who made Mega Man. It should be at the same quality of Mega Man, unless someone decides to purposefully fuck up, but who the fuck would do that?

Scenario B is also unlikely, but is still more likely. I don't think it will be big enough since some Mega Man fans may stay behind and all the gamers who aren't Mega Man fans won't actually give a shit about this game. (TBH, the game only has a real chance of making money due to how it is supposed to be Mega Man's spiritual successor and the actual Mega Man series has pretty much died. If Mega Man was still alive, Mighty No. 9 wouldn't sell well or might not be a thing at all.)

Omg, it's true, if you have put some money in the kickstarter, you can have the beta access. I have one! =D
I go test it and back to say what i think about it....but when i see the video, the game looks complete, i can imagine combo, dash, transformations with more attacks possibility!

EDIT: Mighty 9 is really fun, it uses a new style of gameplay and it's good! You dont have chargeshot but you can use a lot of shots, specially against the boss! You can spam it because there is not the boring "invincibility" after a hit ! But you must do a combo with the special attack sometimes.
I finished the stage of the ennemy who looks like cannon of a gun, but it's pretty hard, people will like it ! And it's well made, sometimes, the aquatic robot has come to help me...really COOL! : 3

Yeah, it's not a new megaman game, but it's a good thing ^^ VERY GOOD THING for us!

EDIT2: video of the gameplay by a guy on youtube!

Thanks to my -way cool bro-, I got a chance to play through the beta!

My strongest feeling after playing through was how different the game was from the Classic Mega Man series. There's plenty of similarities when it comes to things like character and level design, but just like Emmanuelf06 said, the overall play style is very different. There is a lot more emphasis on fast-paced movement with dashing and dodging, rather than stopping and shooting. In a way, I'd say it's closer to Mega Man X/Zero/ZX gameplay wise, while the world/setting is instead mirroring Classic Mega Man.

The boss battle was an interesting change of pace. like Emmanuelf06 mentioned, it's encouraged to strike the boss with rapid-fire since there's no immediate hit invincibility. However, after so much damage he'll turn purple and requires(?) you to dash into him, which feels cool and is fortunately a safe maneuver.

The factory and enemies and effects look pretty cool overall, but there's plenty of things to nitpick about graphically. The biggest issue to me, personally, is that things look a little dull and grey. I would like to see how things looked with some increased contrast between characters and the background plus some more vibrant colors.

Anyways, didn't expect to be playing this so soon! Very cool surprise!

The reason that the thread was closed because everyone went "this is triggering me, please make it go away." In my opinion, you shouldn't get to force people to be silent about an issue that they are discussing in a civil and respectable manner just because it makes you feel bad. That's called a hugbox, and hugboxes are the worst kind of willful blindness.

Im scared about the gameplay, it looks too...repetitive? More than a mm classic game, it seems...

http://youtu.be/flU6Q9VVOJU (http://youtu.be/flU6Q9VVOJU)

Well, it's just a beta, so it can become better.
How say in english, it's too "linear" ?.... Too much.... Some plat form part are cool, but when you start to run in a corridors, it's the same thing, i hope, not all the stages are like that...

In one year (and some months), it can be hard to make  a so good game ?.......so it can explain why capcom didnt release a new megaman game yet, since you have street fighter, Monster hunter and others in the work before..... ^^;

The style is not bad at all, but not exceptionnal, the musics too....but why not, i will play it...... Better than nothing  :p
I like the combo style again, but i hope They will find more way to make it attractive for people... :)
Title: Re: Mighty Number Nine: Inafune Strikes Back
Post by: Yuri Sakazaki on October 20, 2014, 02:30:39 PM
I think the repetitive part stems from the fact most stages shown so far pretty much looks the same aesthetically. And that we can't use different weapons between stages yet.

That music though, yuck!
Title: Re: Mighty Number Nine: Inafune Strikes Back
Post by: Emmanuelf06 on October 21, 2014, 05:30:33 AM
Maybe 1 year is no enough to make this kind of game? Maybe they do it too quickly? Idk....
Can explain why a capcom guy said "We want to be sure to make a good game and not a little thing", in capcom unity forum, he said something like that....so yeah, if they start a game, they could need a lot of time, specially if there is some 3D things....

And yeah, the music is...boring...i hope they will rework it...
Anyways, i like the dashing style combo, pretty fun. (:

The latest update (http://www.mightyno9.com/en/20141129) has some cool new screens of the game, but it also has a tidbit I thought some artists/designers here would find interesting:

Quote
I want to hold another robot design contest so bad!! Backer or not, send us a message if you’d like to participate! If enough people ask for it I’d love to do it again.

I always cursed myself for missing out on the Robot Master design contests of the old days, so having a new chance to submit Robot Designs to be reviewed and redrawn by Keiji Inafune and KIMOKIMO is pretty cool. If anyone is interested, they should tweet at Mighty No. 9's twitter account (https://twitter.com/MightyNo9) or email them at mightyno9(at)comcept.jp and say you're interested.

Not so.....when i see the gameplay of MMX corrupted....it looks 10x better
Yeah, MMX corrupted need a lot of years to be made but if Inafune take more time to make Mighty9, it could be good, Mighty9 looks more a little inde game actually.
There was maybe a lot of possibilities with this special dash.....
I hope the full game will show more things.... (i played just 2 levels, it was pretty boring)..... I hate the facts you need to finish the ennemies with the dash....it should be just a "stronger" attack than the buster, not just to finish...and yeah you can finish the ennemies with the buster but it needs more time....
Anyways, it's maybe the point of the gameplay of Mighty 9....why not, but i wont be a big fan of it.

Update/EDIT: Mighty n°9 delayed to 2016 ??? http://www.rockman-corner.com/2015/08/w ... o-9-s.html (http://www.rockman-corner.com/2015/08/whats-going-on-with-mighty-no-9-s.html)
Maybe, it's just the physical release who is delayed?
Title: Re: Mighty Number Nine: Inafune Strikes Back
Post by: Ehibika on August 03, 2015, 06:42:04 AM
Well technically I think it is an indie game, in the very least Comcept isn't AAA level yet.
nevertheles, I've heard that the reason for the dash was a way to intentionally force the player to have to come into proximity of a threat rather than just standing as far away as possible and merely jumping and shooting. I cannot call this a strictly good or bad design choice though. it increases difficulty and requires that you not only take advantage of boss patterns for dodging, but for also choosing key openings to dash, and in the dash's defense, you seem to only need 1-2 shots before an enemy can be absorbed, unlike the classic games where enemies generally take 3-4 shots. so if anything, I thing the dash makes things a bit faster.

I am curious as to why the physical releases need to be delayed so far away, I'll admit that I'm starting to get a bit skeptical of Inafune's business practices myself after what's happened with red ash.

I still hope the best for Inafune, even if Mighty 9 have some trouble to be released, what make me think He was not serious, was more about the Red Ash double kickstarter without Mighty9 released..... x)

It seems, the graphism were improved:

Nice :)

For the people who are not happy, it's just some kids who are frustrated because they are not patient and want it and "right now", it's often like that... :/

I think Inafun was a bit stressed if his game is not liked so he tried certainly to improve a lot of things, good luck for me....(in waiting mm11 lol )

Even if his commercial strategy is not really good, i like how he keeps the passion for it
I miss a bit platform games (not retro), could be great to finaly get it =P

I like how the hypocrites in the comments section that complained about all the delays now want them to delay it again because it doesn't fit their "graphics-based" standards.

Wake me up when real reviews based on gameplay/story/anything that really matters come in post-release.

I will play the game for sure...even it's like an inde, nothing huge....but those dislikes reminds me how this game was overhyped at the beginning of the kickstarter...
Now you get it....making a game with a little team is hard (and with that, make his own engine!)

But his commercial strategy with adding Red Ash/Might9 serie was weird....wasnt he a bit megalo?

The teaser really dampened my spirits, though. That much is certain.

I mean graphics aren't everything but if a 4 million dollar budget 2D platformer looks worse than a heavily budgeted early PS2 game theres a problem. This isn't even a matter of the art style trying to look low poly either, I've seen screenshots where Beck's face texture was slightly coming off of his model and don't even get me started on the cheese pizza explosions. Also from what I've seen of any actual gameplay from the demo the velocity at which Beck goes up and down so quickly when he jumps makes it look like a god damn action 52 game.
Title: Re: Mighty Number Nine: Inafune Strikes Back

I really think it will be fine. Not a 'great' game but a solid 7/10. I wish they just went with 2D instead of 2.5D though. Maybe the high jumping speed feels right when you're actually playing the game.
Title: Re: Mighty Number Nine: Inafune Strikes Back

people were so overhyped since the start anyway, but i think, Inafune used a part of this money of some Red Ash stuff (for the start), it wont surprise me....
Doesnt look a bad game but 3 years for a game who looks like an inde, not sure if it's the best we can do..but yeah, he was in a little team....i won't be rude, i will wait the game.
I just hope, if you don't want finish an enemy with the dash, you don't need to shoot x3 more to kill it.

There is some problems with the trailers too (about the the voice of the guy and what he says" but anyway =p

I wouldn't say it's mediocre, it's good at best. Not anything mindblowing, it looks kinda glitchy and the graphics look bleh, but the game itself looks alright and the music sounds as good as I hoped.

My original impressions were "I hope this is succesful", and I guess the game came out so that's a success, right? It probably won't sell much given the awful awful awful rep its built over the years, but I'd say the game itself met my expectations of a Mega Man successor. In fact, I'd say most first impressions on this thread were "I hope this comes out, I'll support it, looking forward to it since it's Mega Man".

Didn't back it, wouldn't have if I knew the shitty deal backers are having right now, the Kickstarter management is a fucking mess and that's a shame.

https://twitter.com/DarylSurat/status/7 ... 1897381889 (https://twitter.com/DarylSurat/status/745008521897381889)

People bashed Megaman because it was dead (well it's true in a way), but the fact people said "Megaman is dead, now there is Mighty9" was so ridiculous, it was one of the reason why i didnt one back it.

I did just to try to game but well, too bad....

And now, lets wait for Red Dash ?

french reviewer said the game is empty, but the worst is the way It's made (maybe the level design, monsters placements).

Apparently this thing bricks the Wii U, So uh... Also mediocre doesn't necessarily mean its bad, but if a game like this with its all star team behind it and what it represented as a revival of old school action platformers, getting a 5.6 is A LOT worse than if something like a licensed game or some random game no one has ever heard of had a 5.6.

EDIT: as a side note, this is pretty damn embarrassing. (tried to put a youtube video here but it wasn't working so I'll just link it.)

Awesome level design, original stuff, not always the same, awesome musics, a lot of details.

Remember before? Megaman was cool, especially Megaman X for the action style:
Megaman x4, split mushroom stage:

I don't know if we will get something from capcom but i suppose they are the only one who have the potential to make something good, just they dont want.
Or maybe, if there is really a megaman 11, i won't be with the 8 bit poor style (even if it's fun to play for a sunday).

I wouldn't mind if they kept making 8 bit Mega Man games for classic IF they also continued stuff like the X series and didn't revert that back to 16-bit style and kept it advancing. I doubt they'd pull something like that if they made another game in the latter Mega Man (zero and ZX) style though.

I can completely understand why folks are upset with this game, particularly those that backed it themselves. Still, I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy the game, with the notable exception being the voice acting for certain characters (literally just Cryosphere). This game is the biggest disappointment I've ever seen.

From the screenshots that I saw and the insane amount of money put into it, and the fact they were basing the concept off the Megaman games which had lots of great and well executed ideas, I was certain that this would be no less than a great game!

Really I was expecting something like Megaman X8. Great visuals for the time, various things included to spice up the formula, 2.5D greatness, unique and interesting ideas for the stages, etc. We didn't get that.

Up until release I felt a bit guilty that I chose not to back the project. Now I feel happy since it turned out the be the right choice. Weird how pledging money towards a movie about an eagle statue was the superior investment.

I've been enjoying the game quite a bit! It is too bad about technical issues on console versions and other Kickstarter related things; I've been pretty lucky with my Steam version so far.

Some of the transformations are really cool, like Brandish giving you Strider-like sword slashes at no weapon cost. You have to do special techniques (down slash, frenzied cuts) to use energy (which is another thing I like; some powers having multiple attacks).

8-bit is dead, Megaman classic needs to enter 20XX already. Besides, 7, 8 and Megaman & Bass had 16-bit graphics, and I still regard those as the last proper games in the series. 9 and 10 should have had the same visual style, and the ability to slide at least.
