They probably summoned the "powercrystal" from strife. It's invisible because MM8BDM doesn't have its sprites. When it's destroyed it does a huge radius damage, makes the sector dark and prints "You've blown up the crystal".

I just set up servers whenever I feel like it. I currently can't make one because I don't have access to a PC fast enough to play.
