Okay so what if I told you there's a hot new competition on the block and this time it isn't by Smash???

I.N.S.P.I.R.E. - I couldn't think of a catchy name so I just used a word as an acronym edition compo!

What's the catch?

This mapping competition focuses on using CUSTOM resources to amplify mapping. While other mapping competitions allowed custom textures but were strictly against actors, this competition encourages and allows both. But that's not all!
 The theme of this custom compo is recreating a level from another game.
But what does that mean?
This can be as simple as using 8bdm textures to recreate a certain theme seen elsewhere, or as complex as using custom textures and actors to recreate the total feel of it. That's right, you technically don't need anything custom for this custom compo! Doesn't that defeat the point? No way, unspecified questioner! Before all else this is a mapping competition, and if you make a great map using 8bdm textures and a little splice of theming from a different game you've still met the point of the competition, so good for you!

General Rules

Design your maps for Deathmatch / Team Deathmatch primarily, with a secondary focus on other modes.
 Custom music is allowed but won't be judged. EDIT: IT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE 8-BIT since it isn't judged
 Help is allowed! Medals go to the person that signed up for the map.
 Weapons and items are encouraged, but should be sensibly balanced like any other weapon placement. An updated LMS rotation will allow use of all new weapons in that mode, provided they fit.
 The weapons and items added must generally fit 8bdm standard. Bars for ammo, icons under the bars, refilled with ammo packs etc.
 No custom modifcations that change the way the mode is played. Items, weapons and gimmicks are fine, but turning the map into an RPG isn't. Dummy.

Winning Rules

PM finished maps to me before the deadline!
 Scores are handled similarly to the SWBT compo. Polls will be put up and discussion is encouraged in the thread, but these scores are only taken into consideration by the judges rather than having literal weight. This is to prevent people flocking to the flashiest map rather than the most solid, so don't be upset!
 I'm quality controlling, but only to cut out completely unserious maps. If you actually tried, you'll get in if you followed the above rules.
 Judging is done on two merits. First off is the strength of the map and simply how fun it is, like how other competitions would judge. Secondly, you get judged on how well your custom resources or inspiration is presented and how it works in the map's favour. What this means is that if you make a great map that's barely themed on a level except for a single prop, you'll get great marks for your map but a raised eyebrow and an unhappy face for your customs. While this point takes a backseat to the main judging of the actual map, it's important to make something innovative and cohesive and overall FUN to snag some extra points with your newfound freedom. TL;DR, take advantage of what the competition allows, even if it's just a tiny bit.
 Relatively about 80% of the 'marks' is on the strength of the map and 20% is on how the custom parts compliment the map.

Specific Rules (making a themed map!)

Your map does not need to have custom resources at all. It's just encouraged! For fun!
 Your map DOES need a reference, which should be PM'd to me when submitting if it's not obvious.
 Custom textures are allowed.
 Custom actors and scripts are allowed.
 Custom weapons and items are allowed.
 Custom painstates are allowed.
 You can make a map from any game that's actually released, with a few exceptions. Wanna do something from Metroid Prime? Okay. Super Mario Sunshine? Sure. Wario Land 2? Alright. Halo? Ok. Street Fighter II? That's a little weird, but I don't see why not. Use some tiles from Batman for the NES? You would be my hero. But you wouldn't get any extra points compared to other maps.
 No maps from Mega Man 9, 10, V. Making a map from GRAVITY BEETLE FROM X3 with a wind gimmick or KATTELOX RUINS FROM LEGENDS with a Shining Laser weapon or even THE UNDERNET with some virus actors is fine, but nothing the core will eventually cover. This also means no stages that were in core covered games but weren't included, eg. no MM7 intro, no MM4 Wily stages, no first MM3 Wily stage.
 No hack levels, unless they're from Mega Man hacks. You can use Minus Infinity or Air Sliding or so on if you want, but you can't use a level from a Mario hack or anything.
 Keep your stuff 8-bit. I'm not going to shove some completely strict guidelines on what is and isn't, but if it doesn't even resemble 8-bit theming then it's a no go.
 Maps that have been released publicly can't be entered into this competition. Make something new and original!
 Unlike maps, weapons that HAVE been released publicly can be entered in your map. Obviously ask for permission first, but if you want to include UKIYAMA'S SEED SHOOTER THINGY weapon in your ORACLE OF SEASONS AGES map that's fine!! Bear in mind the weapon's function and balance will be taken into account slightly in the judgement of your map.

Since I'm not entering, I can help with sprites, DECORATE (weapons and items) and ACS (scripts and gimmicks) slightly for your map without doing the whole thing for you.
Lego and Messatsu usually both like to help as well, but don't bother them too much since they didn't give you permission like I did!
