"Domination" Game Mode?
« on: March 12, 2015, 01:30:19 PM »
I recently read something about a gamemode called "Domination" on the wiki, and i asked myself, if that
would ever get into the vanilla-game of MM8BDM.

It's basically some sort of King-of-the-hill-with-multiple-capture-points-and-gained-score-every-3-seconds-for-each-point,
but i am sure most (or everyone) knew that.  :)

Also, sorry if this is set in the wrong topic, i don't know where else to post this :L

Considering the core game doesn't even cater towards CTF in the very least, I doubt Dominion would be a thing ever.
I mean there were maps for it, and there was a pretty neat mod at one point that basically made OFCTF into King of the Hill. However, the maps were shoddy, the cap points were instant, making it really easy to deny the other team points and basically devolved into which team gets a point first before running laps around the map to retain the point rate.
The koth mod also never left beta as I recall. I thought it was pretty neat, though.

Either way, I don't think it would belong in the core game, similar to invasion and skulltag.

I would be very happy to see Domination in the core. The gamemode is simple as DM without the frustration.

There is one problem though: communicating to the player which points are A, B, and C. TF2 deals with this issue by having linear map layouts with 1 capturable point per team, and Quake Live deals with the issue by allowing the player to see which points are which (and where) through walls. Personally I think the latter would suit mm8bdm better, but I feel engine limitations may get in the way.

Basically the more game mode is more fun for more people. I vote with yes.

I'm gonna vote yes actually, not saying it will be implemented but I've personally felt there was never a reason NOT to, many of our core maps could actually make use of the game mode already. And simply because no one plays CTF doesn't mean rule out the people who would gladly do so otherwise, same for this mode.

I think it would be best suited for already existing Deathmatch maps as well.
However on the scale of "bigger map = more points; points are more apart".
I tried some domination maps recently and apparently a special sector needs to be creats so people could join a team.
Guess you cant just join and pick a team as you spec.
