NEWS:
--New Duel Item Patch: DuelItemPatch-v4c-8.pk3 (http://www.best-ever.org/download?file=duelitempatch-v4c-8.pk3)
Change log:
-Centaur Flash removed from Duel.
-Can no longer pick up duplicate Item 1s, Item 2s, or Wire Adaptors.
-Alien skin is no longer silent.
-Rush Marine removed from Duel.
-Thunder Beam can no longer OHKO.
-Mega Ball can no longer OHKO.

Please let me know if you find any bugs in this version, so they can be fixed with great haste. And big thanks to Lego for inspiration for the Mega Ball fix, and Michael for fixing Mega Ball!

May the Fourth be with you, for the time has come once more, and this time we're pulling out all the stops. If the Duel Tournaments of Champions are a trilogy, then this is RETURN OF THE JEDI. This is...
DUEL TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS EPISODE VI: FLY CASUAL, RISE ABOVE

This is a classical duel tournament, where you will face off against opponents in deadly matches that will eventually crown the new Duel Champion.

There will be two phases to this tournament: a pool phase and a bracket phase. In the pool phase, you must fight each opponent in your group round-robin style; against each opponent in your pool, you must have best-of-3-duels match with fraglimit 5. The pool phase will determine your seeding in the bracket phase, which will be one large, double-elimination bracket, in which you will face opponents in best-of-three, 10 fraglimit matches. The exception to this will be the Winner's Finals, Loser's Finals, and Grand Finals, which will feature best-of-5 sets.

The winner of the Grand Finals will be crowned the new Duel Champion, and will receive the Cutstuff Fighter Medal. (http://www.cutstuff.net/forum/images/medals/badge22.png)

The runner-up of the tournament will receive the Cutstuff Fighter Runner-Up Medal. (http://www.cutstuff.net/forum/images/medals/badge22-RU.png)

General Rules
1. All games will be played in version v4c of MM8BDM, Zandronum 2.0. All servers used must use the new Duel Item Patch, to be released before the start of the tournament.

2. All matches must be played according to these guidelines:
a) Each set is best 2 out of 3 games, with the exception of Loser's Finals, Winner's Finals, and Grand Finals, which feature best-of-5 sets.
b) Each duel in the Pools Phase is to 5 frags, each duel in the Bracket Phase is to 10 frags.
c) Each player will pick one map, and the third map, if necessary, will be decided upon by mutual agreement.
d) To decide which player picks the first map, EITHER both players agree that one or the other picks first, OR a third party (that is, not either player, unless agreed upon by both players) will toss a coin. Heads means that the player on the TOP of the Challonge match up will pick first. Tails means the player on the BOTTOM of the Challonge match up will pick first.
e) In best-of-5 sets, the first map is agreed upon mutually. From there, the loser of the previous map selects the next map.

3. Map clause.

4. Servers used for the competition must use the appropriate settings. Of course, I will have at least one server up myself.
a) Crouch OFF
b) Chasecam OFF
c) Forced Respawn ON
d) Skill 2
e) Unlagged OFF
f) Autoaim OFF
g) Drop weapon on death OFF
h) Suicide OFF
i) Spawnfarthest ON
j) Mapvotes ON

5. Server hosts must be able to provide logs of any and all matches if I request them.

6. Duels played on the server of one of the participants (where they have that low, low ping) will only count upon agreement by both players.

7. Cases of lag will be handled on a case-by-case basis. As general rules, lag related to clients’ local machines (ie, other programs, etc.) will not be
excused; lag based on connection issues with the server will be excused in most cases and the appropriate actions will be taken.

8. Activity clause. If a match goes undone for 2 weeks after the match up has been decided, OR if a player is unresponsive for 5 days since they last communicated (with the exception of advanced notice), I reserve the right disqualify the player that has been less active. Being active means communicating with me AND your opponent to set times for matches, and making those scheduled times. Depending on the circumstances I may allow more time, but keep this in mind. I also reserve the right to change these time limits at any time, provided that I notify you all via this thread. In addition, I reserve the right to disqualify a player at any time if they are the less active player of a match up that is stalling the rest of the competition to a significant degree.

9. As always, report all scores here on this thread, preferably with screenshot confirmation and confirmation from both players.

10. As tournament host, I reserve the right to add, remove, or change rules as I see fit to maintain a smooth, functional, and equally fair tournament.

Duel Tournament of Champions Commentary Team

I'd love to organize a team of commentators that can record and live commentate. This effort entirely depends on interest and volunteers, so if you're interested please let me know! You can be a commentator and also participate in the tournament, and this is encouraged.

Anyone is welcome to sign up, but there are some criteria you should probably try to meet. After the sign ups close I will announce the commentary team. Of course, we will have multiple commentators, recorders, etc., assuming we get enough qualified sign ups.
1) Obviously, if you want to be on the commentary team, you need to either be willing to speak in a Skype call to actually commentate, OR you must be able to record the match and the Skype call. In other words, you need to be able to do something productive for the commentary team effort, and you need Skype.
2) For commentators, I will prefer people whom I know have experience or knowledge of the game, who are clear and intelligent speakers, and who I know can handle a live commentating situation.
3) For recorders, please be sure you understand how your software of choice works. Of course we will talk later when the time comes.

The point of blanket banning custom maps was always due to familiarity reasons. The Lego Pack maps that have been in Dojo rotation are thus allowed for normal picking. The newer ones haven't seen Dojo rotation, so due to unfamiliarity alone they remain mutual.

Less than 24 hrs and there are already 18 sign-ups for help/competing. If that doesn't say things are going I well, I don't know what does, so Congratulations on that KD. Sadly, I won't be able to sign up, even thought I REALLY want to commentate. Exams ya know.

Also, some make sure to get some really good footage, I want to watch the matches after exams finish because have a hunch that some epic stuff is gonna happen/some serious stuff is about to go down. Lastly, I wish all the competitors good luck, remember to give it your all!

I've got a quick question before the tournament starts about the pools; is everyone guaranteed to get out of pools and into the big double elimination bracket?

I remember the 2012 Duel tournament (http://cutstuff.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=4517) I was in a way back had Round Robin games that only the top two players made it into the upper bracket and the bottom two got sent to a consolation bracket, both single elimination.

I've kinda had my head in the sand for any tournaments in between so I'm a bit unfamiliar with how they ran.

After polling a group of over one third of contestants with an overwhelming support for the decision, Muzaru, who intended to sign up but missed the deadline by an hour, has been permitted to join the tournament. If a large number of the remaining contestants dispute this choice, Muzaru will be removed from the competition.

MM2DW1 has been added to maps only allowed upon mutual agreement.
"All other custom maps" changed to "All other custom maps, except those which I deem unsuitable for duel." I'm not going to spam that power, it's basically there so people don't duel on Joke maps or Dive Man clones.

Amazingly, we completed 83 pool matches in less than two weeks! That's really impressive. Bravo everyone, and congratulations to Michael, Gizmo, Kapus, Awbby, Juicy, Mendez, EazyDI, and Fyone for finishing in first place in their pools!

Now it's time for the real deal: the double-elimination bracket!

As we begin the second stage of the tournament, there are now a few more items to be aware of:
-If you use a custom skin, please let me know via PM what custom skin you use. This is for the commentary team, so they can try and have everyone's skin when they commentate matches.
-Try to be looking out for commentary team members as you go about your matches. It may take a while for everyone to get into gear and start commentating a lot of matches, but they'll try their best! That being said, as a general rule you don't need to hold off your matches until someone can do commentary. The responsibility to find and commentate matches lies mostly with the people on that team (listed on the first post).
-Remember, bracket matches are best of 3, 10 frag duels.

Also huge shoutouts to Michael for always being an awesome friend and helping out whenever I needed him to with matches and getting people and really anything. I don't really thank you enough Michael, but you deserve it all!

First off, I'd like to apologize for any grumpy behavior anyone has been subject to as a result of me losing. I've always been hyper-competitive and very often neglect basic manners (such as saying gg) as a result of something not going my way. Despite consistent encouragement from people in and out of the community, I honestly don't think I can fulfill my commitment of completing my tournament matches. I've been getting physically ill from stress lately (moving in particular...) and losing even casual matches with friends puts me on edge now. Basically, it's hard for me to have fun.

As of now, I'd like to drop out and forfeit my match. I'm sorry for any complications this may cause, but for my own well-being I think it's for the best.

Good luck to the rest of the competitors! Especially Super Raveman, you have a very good Snakeman game. :)

Alright folks, it's now been 2 weeks since the bracket stage began, and progress has been good! As usual I'll be floating around checking in with everyone and trying to organize matches. As I do this, please remember that as I'm doing this, I'm just trying to make sure that things stay active and progressing. The most important thing I need from anyone I talk to is just clear communication of availability. Also, please try to take more initiative in contacting your opponents on your own. I'll still be addressing every single match as I can but the more effort put in by the players to make the match happen, the more convenient it will be for both combatants.

In the meantime, some announcements.

Reminder that BE servers now run on Zandronum 2.1, so you'll need to update to play.

That being said, a health desync bug has been found in version 2.1. The short version of this is that sometimes it will look like health is healing double what it should be. That is, while your client may say you have 90 health, you may actually only have 50, for example. This doesn't actually affect gameplay directly because the server has your correct health, but of course not knowing how much health you actually have is a problem in Duel. Of course I will keep up to speed with any updates on this matter, and one way or another I will address its impact on us within a day.

Probably though we'll just have to wait and hope the desync gets addressed soon, one way or another.

I apologize for the stall that 2.1 has placed on this tourney, but hopefully this ends that!

Muzaru has put together a nifty wad that bypasses the issues of the health desync. You can grab it here: TheFakeFood.wad (http://www.best-ever.org/download?file=thefakefood.wad)

No issues were found when a few of us tested this online. I've already added this wad to the Dojo and Arena, so please let me know immediately if you find any problems with it! There hopefully won't be any though.

Enormous thanks to Muzaru. Everyone thank Muzaru next time you see him. He's the best.

With that, we can start moving again. I want to see a lot more effort put into the losers' bracket matches; we have everything but Losers' Finals lined up as far as opponents go, so all we have to do is get those matches done!

Unfortunately, due to extended inactivity, I've had to remove Neo (Digimon Next) from the tournament, which means that Rozark advances to fight Magnet Dood.

The following are the current matches we're waiting on:
