This Jam will follow a lot more cues from the first mapping jam than the second, because the second was a fun experiment, but I think most of us agree it doesn't need to be repeated. And like the first mapping jam, this will be split into two phases!
For the time being, Phase 2 will remain a secret, but it will be different than Jam 1's Phase 2, BUT WHAT WILL IT BE? THE MYSTERY LIVES ON!
So let's talk about the less secretive Phase 1 for the time being!
Similar to Jam 1, Phase 1 will have you make a small map piece! Here we have some guidelines and differences to go over, so let's begin!
-Map Pieces can be no bigger than 896x896 units.
-There will be some quality control going on with these pieces. It's not going to be too harsh, but a couple things that will probably get your piece rejected is if
1. It obviously had no effort put into it and it's just an empty box or something.
2. It is WAY too convoluted for its own good with 3D Floors everywhere
3. It's just straight up unplayable
4. Any other rules are broken.
-Let's talk about textures! Jam 1 dictated that you pick a core texture set for your piece. We are going to ask for the sake of the piece to stick with Core Textures Only. It doesn't matter what Core Textures you use (I mean, don't make it all like fences or something, be somewhat reasonable) and you shouldn't worry at all about what textures you use, as it won't have much of an effect on Phase 2. As a side note, don't worry about adding aesthetics or little fancy visual touches to your piece, this basically falls into the texture bit in the fact it will probably just prove to eat up your time and not prove to be important at all later on. The most important thing about these pieces are the layout, the textures are just here so we have something to look at.
-Signing Up in the topic is optional. If you want to sign up here, more power to you, but no one is going to make you, but it's important to note that no one is technically signed up until you submit your map piece to me via PM or Skype. Your piece basically acts as the submission. If you don't have a map piece, you aren't ready to jam.
As for deadline, it's more casual so we're giving out some extra leeway with the time. The due date for the map pieces will be two weeks from now on
Saturday, July 4th at 11:59 PM. Shortly after I will make another post discussing Phase 2 and we will go from there. If you're worried about any of the rules for one reason or another, try to get it done and send it a little early and I'll let you know if it's okay!
That should be the most of it. If you have any questions, ask Smash or myself and we will try to answer them to the best of our ability. But until then, it's time to Jam and have fun!
