Well I had been on the fence about this game... mostly because of the controls, but the multiplayer pushed me over the edge, I ordered it with release day shipping so I'll have it next friday. I'm interested in playing some of the vs matches with you so sign me up... although I only recently got my 3DS and dont know how to get my player code thing so I may need a lil help in that department.

EDIT: I found my friend code... wasn't as complicated as I thought it was.

Oh man, as soon as I found out about the online multiplayer mode...
It's a good thing I got a job recently, so I'll be able to afford a 3DS soon

I read both Bows and Cannons as Cows.

I'll be buying this when it comes out, because the multiplayer alone looks really fun.

I was looking forward to a new Kid Icarus since it was first announced waaaaaay back

but then I saw the gameplay videos :ugeek:

it looks too much like Kingdom Hearts to make me excited for this game, sorry

Did you want it more like the original?  I'm a huge Nintendo fan and I thought the original Kid Icarus sucked badly.  Besides, this game is mostly shooting and doesn't take itself seriously at all.

I thought the original Kid Icarus was a good game... its just like most games from that era, hard as hell. I got it when I was like 8 or 9 and didn't beat it until I was like 12. This new one has alot of the old enemies in it from the NES version which is appealing to me cuz I really like nostalgia stuff. But the multiplayer is what really sold me on it, it looks like alot of fun.

To me, there are games that give their series a great start and age incredibly well (Super Mario Bros., Donkey Kong Country (sure, Donkey Kong is the real original for both but bleh)).  Then there are games that are still good but are outshined by their successors (Metroid, Sonic the Hedgehog).  Then there are games that time has basically spit on and just fail horribly.  This is what I call the "Thank God this shit got better" category (The Legend of Zelda, Kid Icarus).

Either way, if it were more like the original, it would be too much like Metroid so meh.

Where's Mega Man on that list? It seems to be in the middle, since it isn't really outshined by it's successors (everyone thinks the ones after 3 or 4 suck) but it hasn't aged well either...

Still looks fun I guess.

It's between the middle and lower end.  I don't really like it very much but it isn't awful.

Also, I'd be a lot more pumped for this game if I were actually at home and could get it...

Title: Re: Kid Icarus: Uprising =-2 DAYS-=
Post by: fizzyman on March 21, 2012, 04:35:36 PM
I'm not going to lie, that too did influence my decision. I really liked the first Kid Icarus game so an updated version for free in "free-dee" is a bonus. But if the multiplayer is as good as it looks I doubt I'll be playing it much. I'm pretty hyped about it myself. But there is this one thing that I think is weird. In Kid Icarus, you jumped ALOT in that game, and in this one there is no jump button... from what I've seen when you are presented with a wall or ledge in yer way you have to look for some weird symbol on the ground that makes you jump, thats weird. But I guess they really couldn't have made you jump any other way considering the control layout. Oh well its a very minor thing but its still weird to me.

awesome swapnote w/ music!

I am AFRAID that since I went cheap on shipping Best Buy will be shippin' the game late (OH WOE IS ME). I have stuff I have to do tomorrow anyways BUT STILL!!

Time to hear about how great it is and weep <people with review copies have already been blabbing on and driving me CRAZY>

But-but, release date shipping is like 1 dollar! You coulda had it today... I just got mine and I'm trying to master the controls so I can play Light vs Dark with Laki.

I think Best Buy's might've been more than a dollar...not sure. ANYWAYS yea I'm cheap I admit it!!

Quote
Expected delivery date, on or before:March 29, 2012
AHHHHH

The thing is, you can usually choose to pick-up stuff in store, and it didn't highlight that option this time. Soooo despite them shipping a copy, maybe I can ask em to cancel and just pick it up in-store. Which is a good idea cuz right now at Best Buy, the game is $30!

The only problem is...still haven't gotten the code for 3D Classics Kid Icarus HEH
Title: Re: Kid Icarus: Uprising
Post by: fizzyman on March 23, 2012, 10:02:01 PM
Oh ok, yeah Best Buy prolly does charge more for release date shipping... sorry I didn't read well >,< Yeah Amazon is what I was talking about, I've used their release date shipping I think 3 times now... game usually arrives in the afternoon of the day of release, I think Uncharted 3 came in the morning though if I remember right. I guess you just got to get lucky with where the delivery trucks are going to and coming from.
Title: Re: Kid Icarus: Uprising
Post by: PressStart on March 23, 2012, 10:05:25 PM
Yea Amazon's super good with delivery. I hear some people got their 3D Classics code from Amazon already, too!

I called up Best Buy and they price-matched to the $30 price, thankfully. Still don't know about the in-store pick-up thing...at this point I would probably have to cancel or mess with the order, which might screw up getting the 3D Classics code...

edit: In this topic, Press Start cries about his bad ordering decisions while everyone else plays Kid Icarus!
Title: Re: Kid Icarus: Uprising
Post by: fizzyman on March 23, 2012, 10:07:16 PM
Yeah I shoulda said that... I got the 3D Classics code this morning actually and was messing around with it some, its fun but its harder than I remember. I guess I've just gotten rusty over the years but I do remember having a really hard time with it when I first got it in 86.

EDIT: I thought of something, why don't you go to that Best Buy thats selling it for 30 bucks and buy it, then when you get yers in the mail... don't open it and take it back to Best Buy and get yer money back. Then you'll eventually get yer 3D Classics code and get the game sooner than having to wait almost a week for it.

It has a weird challenge curve. The beginning is brutally difficult, but if you power up, you're a king by the end!

Shooting, moving upward, and hearing the music makes it a classic to me.

Yes, I'm loving the 3DS classic.  Not sure how much they changed from the original, but it's definitely my favorite NES title so far.

This game looks very promising. I'll probably be picking it up this weekend. That is really bad news for my homework..

And the only enemy I have ever associated with Kid Icarus is the Egg Plant Wizard. I'm glad he's making his big comeback as the major antagonist. He is possible the most compelling enemy I've ever faced. *Joking*.

Kid Icarus has always been one of my favourite games on the NES since I was young!  :ugeek:

Changes I noticed: Custom control type is much more responsive than the original and you can also continously fire arrows by holding down the button!

2-1 I believe it was? has a very nice background!

Man, I love the game I just suck really bad at it. I tried to play a vs match with people and I just died over and over again really fast... I have a really hard time with the solo player too, I lower the difficulty and its still hard. Like the last 2 boss fights I've won I had like 2 hits left worth of health, if that even. I love that its so awesome but I hate how I just completely suck at it, I find my brains getting confused trying to rotate the screen with the C-pad or trying to move with the stylus. I dunno why its so hard for me but those two things get mixed up in my head alot, especially when flying. Does anyone else have a hard time with the controls? Or am I just so oldschool that I can't adapt to the new style controls?

-6307 hearts
-weapon i'm going with right now is Darkness bow since I found the sucker in a chest I believe. I have yet to buy any weapons or fuse any.
-Cleared chapter 4 with a difficulty of 2.8 since the flying area killed me the first time on a higher difficulty. Suggestions on weapons and or powers is welcome and appreciated.

you can feel my lame aura of lameness just radiating out of my semi lame post...  :p

I also have Devil Survivor 2 which I have yet to open to play, can't promise that all of my 3ds spare time will go to dear ol Pit. Now I await the crowds to fire their weapons at me for my non more commitment to this awesome game and my lameness! ^_^

im now using gaol blade, a 300 power, a whopping 5 and a half range star and 3 melee star blade wep. (it does 116 with charge shot, and 300 charge with charge ability O.O) i also just now learned to pay attention to the range/melee stars -facepalm-. also, pitiful to say, but i saw my first hacker. "OMG HOW CAN YOU TELL?" you ask? im pretty sure warping to every spawn point at the same time and OHKO with claws isnt an ability. i dont lag either, so it wasnt me. i pity the fool who hacks this gem :(    (all typed on my 3ds too! :D)

Oh man Rozark, why are you so much better at this game then I am?
You were destroying me and Raveman in the games we were having.

I think my favourite weapon to use so far is the hedgehog claws.
They have +2 Paralysis and +1 Speed, making them great for chasing people down.
And the melee dash attack does a good 84 damage, not quite highest grade but it puts a nice hole in their health bar.

hehe.. my secret :p. btw, one of my online matches got me a proud 2626 score: 15 kills and 2 deaths. AWESOME!

Edit: train in story mode. all the advice ill give. ive begun clearing chapters on the 9.0 difficulty. as you know, dont screw up and get hit, and have fast reflexes. this carries over to multiplayer (seriously, why name it together mode? -.-)

I was wondering that myself, seems odd that in a game where you collect things and will likely get multiples of certain weapons that it would make sense to have a weapon trading in option avaiable... well maybe they can add it with add-on content who knows...

Since I think most everyone has it now and it's been a whole week, I've updated the poll for which weapon is everyone's favorite to use.  I probably like Orbitars the best for their speed, fair amount of power, and how awesome they look, but I'd love to know what everyone thinks about the other weapons.
Title: Re: Kid Icarus: Uprising - New poll somewhat!

i prefer blades, mostly because i cant handle pure range/melee. (melee is OP in this game imo, but that doesnt stop me from destroying those users >_>)

It's been a while since I played either of the Sin and Punishment games, so getting and playing KI:U has been really REALLY fun. Unlike Sin and Punishment though, I love the multitude of weapons available to you to keep gaining through the game and fusing for cool bonuses. Gives me something to work for when I can make my favorite weapon, and try to get it to have all the cool special traits I want it to have. Even after a day of playing, i'm up to chapter 7 and already fiddling around with the higher difficulties for cooler weapons. My favorite weapons so far are the Ball Cannon (Pirate hat cannon machine), and the coolest bludgeoning weapon i've ever seen, the Skyscraper Club~.

I also love the characterization of pretty much everyone. Pit's a happy obnoxious little child who can't tell a good joke to save whatever wings he has, and Palutena has to be the most laid back god ever. Every time Pit finishes his missions on foot, I half expect him to come back to whatever base in Skyworld he and Palutena reside at, and just see Palutena vegging on a couch in sweatpants, drinking wine and watching Desperate Housewives.

Also the fact that all of them seem to acknowledge it's a video game.

I love how this is one of those games where you can stay on one level forever and never get tired of it~

Also, I changed up the poll for the usual difficulty everyone plays at.  I usually go for 8.0-8.9 if I have a weapon I'm good with.  9.0 is still usually brutal murder for me, though.

The only level I beat in 9.0 difficulty was Chapter One. I got 10000 hearts from that. And it only cost me lots of pain.

As we know, im pro at this game. So what do pros play at? why, 9.0 of course! It's great training for online, and the only way to get better is to challenge yourself. Ill be working on the insane boss rush difficulty later this week.. seeing as i have the first 2 done. LETS SEE IF I HAVE WHAT IT TAKES! :D

I've been averaging about a 4.0 - 5.0 difficulty playing through levels for my first time. I've gone back and done a few stages at around 6.0 - 7.0, mostly the first four chapters. I'll try out the hardest difficulties when I get better versions of the weapons I really like. I mean, Chapter 7 taunts you with a nice level 9 intensity gate, so I really wanna check that one out. I wanna be able to go into the 9.0 difficulties with a comfortable Skyscraper Club, but until then I've got this Drill Arm with a five star range and big confusion bonuses.

My ultimate goal for this game is to just get the best confusion weapons.

Thanks for the help Korby.

Playing online has been pretty fun in this game as well, but I haven't done a single team battle, just free for all battles. I've found people have been using really fast weapons over everything else, and I don't really blame them. I've got some weapons I thought were good for play and had high value, but they just haven't been working out so well. Sometimes you'll be using a weapon that might be uncomfortably slow once you try it out, and won't offer much defense as you hope for, then someone just comes by and claws you into oblivion. All part of the fun of it though, getting weapons more suited for your play habits. I've grown fond of staff usage, and throwing the confusion status everywhere.

Still trying to make my dream club weapon, but no good weapon fusions are coming up.

Regardless, I managed to beat the game.

Claws/Blades are by far my favorite weapons.
And online, despite being incredibly fun, it's a bit iffy.

Maybe it's just the fact that my internet isn't top notch, oh well...

What weapons are you all currently using?

Mine might not be too great as beforehand I've been playing on 2.0-4.0, so

I'm using a Fortune Bow with 2 Ranged, 1 Melee, and 219 Value. It has Overall Defense +1, Burning +1, Walking Speed +3, and Side-dash cont. fire +3.

I also use Artillery Claws with 2 Ranged, 0 Melee, and 182 Value. It has Melee defense +2, Dash ch. shot +1, and Dash cont. fire +1.

Any suggestions for getting wepons beside the standard raise of difficulty?

For solo I use a Bullet blade with 4.5 in range and 4.5 in melee. Stats: melee def +1, Health +1, Poison +1, Speed +1 and Heart bonus +1

As for online I use the Palutena blade. 4.5 in rand and 4 in melee.
Posion +3, Walking speed +1, Forward-dash cont. fire +2 and full health boost +1

Yeah... They're not the best weapons out there, but I manage. :b
Title: Re: Kid Icarus: Uprising!
Post by: Combotron on April 12, 2012, 10:22:40 PM
My most effective weapon is a Drill Arm I fused a while back with a five-star range, but zero melee, paired with +2 defense, +1 recovery effect, and a +3 confusion. Not only is it one of the coolest looking weapons in the game, it's really reliable, especially when countering people that rush in to melee me online (somehow things work out in my favour when I have the Drill equipped). I've also got Pandora Claws with +3 evasion and +4 speed with added burning effect, and those are crazy effective, even with three-star range and no melee. My second best weapon online however is my Lancer Staff which has four-star range and a lot of running speed and confusion effects, along with peril autododge.

When I played a later chapter on difficulty 7 however, I ended up digging up a really high value Samurai Blade somehow which came with three-star range and one-star melee, but the bonuses were absolutely amazing. It came with +5 to overall defense, +3 to health, weakening effect, +4 standing cont.fire and +4 recovery effect. It's only downside is the -3 in speed, but being able to dish out heavy damage near and far, and hold ground with the huge bonuses is just incredible. I'm definitely holding onto this weapon~.

Also you guys make me feel like I really suck at this game. I play on an average 5.0 - 6.0 difficulty whenever I play a stage for the first time, but I go back later on to try out the higher difficulties. I guess whenever I hear you talking about the higher difficulties I assume you guys are getting from start to finish with no problems whatsoever and no need to continue, even on your first run. If that's the case though, guess i'm just bad at videogames!

I just like to get through chapters without dying so I can keep whatever hearts and spoils I ended up getting and not have them altered, so I play lower difficulties on average. I already tried going through chapter 7 on intensity 9, but I kinda got killed in the air battle at the last checkpoint before entering the land battle phase.

Also... I REALLY liked the single player.

Dark Pit Staff with 5 1/2 stars in range and 3 1/2 in melee. It also has Health +1, Running Speed +2,

Anyone else prefer Team Battle over Free For All in multiplayer? Recently I've been getting more and more pissed off with the Free For All mode because like Smash Bros, people seem to of fallen into incredibly specific, incredibly annoying playsets that get used almost every single battle. I can't go through a single Free For All without being put into a black hole, or have to deal with multiple people using clubs. I also seem to of not figured out how to melee properly, as almost every time I get thrown into a countering battle, I always end up losing the standoff, no matter who the opponent seems to be, and no matter what weapon they seem to have. With team battle, I at least know that every gun on the field isn't completely focused on me, and the pacing is a lot more comfortable for both sides.

I really don't think I should play Free-For-All ever again. There's little pressure to losing a game since your losses aren't recorded, but it's feels pretty crappy to lose over and over again, regardless of how good or bad I play.

Title: Re: Kid Icarus: Uprising!
Post by: Combotron on May 07, 2012, 03:45:14 AM
No, I believe I have a level 4 version of that as well, also the Meteor Rain version of that as well. In a free-for-all, it's understandable to have an offensive power like that, especially if you know when and where to use it. Like if you see a group from a distance, or you're in that one building map with the long hallway, then yeah, it's a good power to use. I do the same with with the Lancer Staff of mine when I use Quick Charge in that area and just pick off people from a decent distance.

I'm finding that the only Arm I can use even remotely well is the Drill Arm, and I'm terrible with every other arm it seems. In free for all, melee attacks rarely connect or succeed with the arms I equip myself with, especially one I thought was good. I managed to find a value 332 Volcano Arm with +6 to defense, +4 to running speed, +3 side dash cont. fire, and +4 to dashing melee, with shaking bonus. It's got 3.5 star range, and 1 star melee as well. Even so, it's not faring well when I use it in free for all, and the same goes for my value 302 Upperdash arm, which even with 4.5 star melee, can't win in a melee standoff with anyone. Anyone else finding arms tricky to use, or are you finding them comfortable?

I did however make a weapon recently that I've grown to like, the Sonic Cannon. I made a pretty good one recently, but if I can get one with a bit of extra homing onto it, with the homing it already has built in naturally, I think I found a new friend. I did want to get into using cannons anyway, I love their designs more than the other weapons.

THIS GAME IS AMAZING
I'm not afraid to give it a 10/10. I absolutely love the gameplay, the controls, the storyline, the graphics (especially in 3D), everything about it is remarkable. People have criticized the controls many times and have killed the ratings because of it, but I found the controls difficult to use for the first 10 minutes, then I quickly became used to them. This goes double when using the stand that is included with the game.

I honestly forgot this existed

After clearing Chapter 9 (Medusa's Final Battle) I went and did it again without using the Three Sacred Treasures, simply because I was interested to see if anything different would happen in the chapter (and because bonus dialogue in a game as funny as Kid Icarus is always worth it). As a reference, I played on the same difficulty level I initially set it to during the run with the Treasures... and it turns out having TST equipped makes the chapter HARDER. My Silver Bow cleared enemies in half the time it took with the Shining Bow, and although the Mirror Shield is fantastic, things just felt better when I could kill everything faster.

Oh, I usually play around Lv. 6 simply because I want the game to be "challenging" without getting all "imitation Touhou Project".

Anybody trying to clean out all the treasure hunts? Or at least Palutena's and Viridi's?  Hades seems a weeee bit to intense to handle.  I'm in the final stretch of Palutena's, just got all those "Clear X boss with Y weapons" and "Clear X boss in Crisis mode (5.0)" and such.  Also all the ones like Dismantle 50 weapons and such.  I never dismantle them, I always fuse them because its more useful.

Also if you ever get one rock the Flintlock Staff online. I love it, sniping give the greatest feeling of satisfaction, I swear.

I thought I was smart, and using a feather on the "Clear all chapters on 9.0 Intensity" would snag me the 999,999 hearts preemptively, but its the ONLY challenge you can't use a feather on.  Hgggnnnnrrmmmm

I've 75% Viridi's
I've 50% Hade's

Yeah... I tried the same thing.

Despite everything, there is a boss that I still struggle with time to time:

The way it runs around when you hit it, THEN the Bomberman explosives from the fake one, (and the occasional mine) seems abit much at times.

I really hated that boss.

Good advice, but there's one problem with that:

Oh, I'm also still using my Gaol Blade. Sure, I've come across higher numbers for range/melee and higher level weapons, (a 334 Boom Orbitars?) but when the damage comes down to it, I still like that weapon.
I can relate. I'm still loving my poison Ninja Palm even though I have other weapons that are easily 50+ levels over it. As far as the story mode is concerned, Silver Bow is pro, and a Silver Bow with added homing, more Hearts gathering, AND a +4 in-Peril attack boost? BEST

Gaol Blade: 300
Ranged: 5 1/2 stars
Melee: 2 stars

Overall Defense +2
Evasion +4
Bkwd-dash cont fire +3

Yea. It's awesome. :)

Edit: R.I.P. Gaol Blade. I've obtained a Darkness bow which far surpasses the Gaol Blade's skill (to give a brief rundown, the regular charge shot standing at at distance of about 20 does roughly 118 damage)

Yep.. I've also grown to love other weapons too, like Viridi Claws, and that horrible Twinbellows Cannon which actually isn't that bad. I just meh-hate it because the explosions are slow moving, only do about 60 damage per explosion, slow charging, and freeze more often than they burn. Get it in a crowd though..

Update on Treasure Hunts:
Palutena: Complete
Viridi: 5 left (Hur.. Luckily I've got a feather left too..)
Hades: 60 left

Necro voice:
RISE FROM THE GRAVE

Anyways, I just finished my 9.0 playthrough :D
I have a ton of op weapons now that just steamroll the competition online. They aren't ohko, but a lot of them hit hard and give recovery effect and high defense.
