Title: Color names. It was bound to be asked anyways.
Post by: RockHumanVortex on October 23, 2010, 02:17:28 AM
Title says all.

Yes I know I'm a "freaking noob". All I want is my name in pretty colors so I can go back to killing Robot Masters...

maybe the link needs to be stickied in the help thread.

Rather than provide a link that really doesn't give you anything but raw data, I'll make this post:

To change your name in Mega Man 8-Bit Deathmatch, do one of the following:
- Open the Console (~ key).  Then type name "Your Name Here" (where "Your Name Here" is would be your wanted name.  Yes, the quotes are important.)
- Open the Multiplayer menu, then Player Setup, then hit Enter on the "Player Name" section.
- Open "skulltag-[your name].ini" in your MM8BDM directory and search for the line starting with "name=".

To add color to your name, do the following:
- Simply add "c" followed by a letter or character, and the characters that follow will be colorized.  You can use multiple c codes to give your name numerous colors.  This is easiest to do from either the console or the INI file itself.

Complete Color Chart (Note: L differs greatly from its Skulltag counterpart.)

Not Listed Here: "-" is a null color.  "c-" will basically turn any text after that to the default color for wherever it's written. (Green in messages, white in emotes, etc.)

If you want to bind buttons to names or chat with colours in them, you need to do cx instead of cx

me also works for messages pointing out to yourself

example: I type "me is not amused"
it comes out as (for me) "*Epsilon is not amused" (with white coloured font)

if you wanted any help

It depends on your message colour settings (Critical messages). So it' not necessarly white. And also /c- is the default colour.

That /me command is quite fun as well. For me "/me D:!!" comes out:

"*DTDsphere D:!!"

My apologies miss, I did not mean to be a liability.

Anyways I finally figured out how to color my name so this thread now has no more meaning. Please shut it down.

Do you see the problem here?

He does bring up a small point. Recently, we've seen an increase in people asking for stuff, whether it be wads or... actually, just wads. In any case, I honestly am ok with this. Joseph Collin's post about color codes is actually helpful to me whenever I need a reference to change the color in my name. Also, when any new players come along (if they do anymore) and see all us veterans with different colors in their name, they can use that guide to change their name accordingly. Still, dead topic bump is still a dead topic bump.

What... but... how...?

If it's so old, how did this thread get to the top of the list... with a "you haven't read this yet" mark?

I call server interference.

Hmm...perhaps there was a deleted post.

Yes, there have been people asking, but they should search first.  There is a new topic in the help section asking the same question with a link to this topic.  That doesn't mean posting in this topic is a good idea, though.

It's a bit odd to use the new colors.  I had to experiment to figure it out (even after reading the post).  Normally for a color you'd, let's say red, you'd do cgThisIsRed.  However, if you want to use one of the new colors, let's say a black outline, you'd do c[b7]ThisIsBlackOutline.

I saw someone named Zero who had a black colored name but he had a red background behind his name. How does one do this?

The "new colors" wad has that. I'm not a fan of it, so I don't use what it offers. I just have it to play on the servers.

Also, you can edit posts.

So i cant get this to work either. i need a more up to date console-method version, as it doesnt work when i put
name "cfGold cfPie" it shows up wrong. Example: Client cfGold cfPie disconnected. Any help?

You have to add a second set of backslashes if you're doing it in the console.

like so: name "\\cfGold \\cfPie"
That being said, you don't need to have the second cf if you're just changing both words to the same color, so you could just do "\\cfGold Pie"
