Title: [Suggestion] Boss Flags for Mod Support
Post by: Gumballtoid on August 22, 2016, 07:09:41 AM
A fairly simple addition. When a boss fight is initiated, give the player a unique inventory item such as "YellowDevilFlag" or "BossFlag1" or the like. This would allow custom huds to draw unique hud elements depending on the boss, or help give mods ease of access if modders wish to add on to the boss in any way.

EDIT: Perhaps specifics would be better. Consider including unique flags for Super Bass, the Wily Capsule, and all phases of King, Quint, and the Mega Mech Shark.

I like this idea. Shouldn't be too tough to do either.
I'll toss it in pending.

I hate to be buzzkillmanmike but I don't like adding even more inventory items to the memory for the sake of external mods. We already have way too many inventory definitions as it is. I think something like this is doable via ACS and LOADACS if you really want to do it.

That's understandable. I'm not terribly concerned with how it's done so much as custom huds being able to detect which boss is currently active. I assumed unique flags would be the easiest and most friendly way of accomplishing that. I was initially banking on using the boss health counters until I discovered that they aren't unique to each boss (about half of the game's bosses use BossHealth5, ye gods).

Even more will use BossHealth5 come v5b.
