What is MM8BDM Repainted?
MM8BDM repainted is a community mod that replaces every asset in the game with ones submitted by members of the community. They can be edited or brand new.

Process
This will be done in a rotating process based on asset type and series. All textures will be done, followed by music, sounds, and props. They will be rotated when the previous project gets completed.

User Process
Go to the basis folder and you can view all the assets for that particular series. Go to the submissions folder to check if something has been submitted for that texture, and if not, you can edit or submit something. If you can't submit using Google Drive, you can PM me here or contact me via Discord.

Rules
No gore, sexual content, or generally illegal things
No copyrighted material
There is no reserving of anything. Everything is free for all.
Feel free to submit as many things as you want when there are a lot of things unclaimed.
When submitting content, please give it the same file name as the asset you are replacing.

Just a reminder to make sure to check the submitted entries beforehand. We are making great progress. Bomb and Cut are done and we are overall about 35% done with Mega Man 1 already.

Are we not touching the weapon sprites?
I was thinking of doing something a bit different for those, but we'll see later on.


Small question; can textures be larger than their source textures? I have some... interesting ideas for time man's skybox.
Yes. Textures have to be redefined anyway. Just don't expect the overly large ones to work unless they are ceiling, floor, or sky textures.

Siivagunner music will be banned as being too low effort.

Cut, Ice, Guts, Fire, Bomb, and Elec Man are done. There are about 25 textures each in Time, Oil, and Wily. I'm hoping that they will be done by this weekend so we can roll straight into Mega Man 2 (which only has 267 textures compared to Mega Man 1's 314).

This sounds pretty cool, but just to make sure: What are the limitations of the "No copyrighted material" rule? Like, does that just mean we can't take someone's original work off of Deviantart, or does it extend to any material that isn't made from scratch (such as a piece of a Garfield comic strip or a sprite from a Mario game)?

That rule is mainly for music. I'd say avoid stealing deviant art stuff or anything that requires credit. Entire comic strips would be bad but everything else is ok.

Progress has been slow but we only have 60 textures left. It may seem like a lot, but its actually really close to being done. I added a list of the textures left on the first post. I'm going to start making textures myself again if no one else starts submitting. I really want to continue this project and jump right in to Mega Man 2.

Update:

Only 7 textures are left for Mega Man 1. They are Time Man's conveyor belts. Mega Man 2 is also over halfway done.

You can now submit music. Please see the first post for more details. I do want to get at least Mega Man 1 and Bubble Man / Wood Man textures done by next week sometime so we can move on to other things.

I'm not sure if the current "flamus" would be okay, since it's supposed to be a CD track. I'd recommend replacing it with the original email version (http://www.homestarrunner.com/SBTechno.zip), just to be safe.

Also, may I ask what's wrong with my "fremus" submission?

I decided to count up all the MM2 Wily tiles that are still available as of right now (Listed in reverse numerical order because that's how the folder is organized), to make Gummy's job easier:

Everything is logged and I pretty much have the folder open at all times. The first entry always gets in unless it violates a rule or the person changes it themselves. I can't manipulate the permissions on a finer level to disable deletion from non-owners.

Mega Man 1 textures are done. I uploaded the texture definitions if anyone wants to try them out early. Mega Man 2 is close to being done as well. Mega Man 3 will go up once Mega Man 2 is done. Then whatever gets done next will probably be succeeded by certain map props.

I've found a problem with Wood Man's textures.
I've looked through the map with Doom Builder and used Ctrl+F on the Textmap in SLADE, and it seems that every texture starting with WODM14 and ending with WODM24 is unused. I'd suggest the textures in question be removed from the list.

Those textures are indeed used. The files are patch names, not texture names. They are either renamed in the file or combined with other patches. I also do unused patches for completion's sake and also if any custom maps end up using the textures.

v5b stuff will be handled later if they affect past submissions, if they don't, then they will be included in that set.

Mega Man 2 textures are done. The textures file has been uploaded and the submissions have been locked. Mega Man 3 will be available either Sunday night or Monday afternoon.

In the meantime: there is a poll about how weapons should be handled. Changing function would require the weapon pack be ran on the server side. The other factor is if the submissions should continue to be a free for all, require reservations. Free for all would make things more chaotic but inconsistent. Reservations would add coherency.

Also, I added / clarified some rules regarding music submissions. Please also note that having your submission removed by me does not mean you have priority in adding a new version.

I'm running into an issue with the sound files.
I've put together a testing wad with the texturedefs and such, and I also included most of the music submitted up to the point that MM2 textures were finished. For some reason, some of the music files don't play in-game at all, such as AQUMUS. This probably isn't a filesize problem, because 4DC2MUS plays just fine, and it's got a larger filesize than AQUMUS. It's also not a LOOP_START problem, because AQUMUS has no LOOP_START tag, thus it would loop after it ends, instead of not playing at all like it does. Does anyone know what might be wrong?

Right. Some of the songs were exported in a format that the engine breaks on. If there are any that don't play, let me know and I'll upload the fixed versions.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that bolded music items on the list are prioritized. The aim is to get Mega Man 1 - 6 done before the end of this year. There will be more about this once Mega Man 4 / music is done.

Update:

This project is still active. Both music and Mega Man 3 textures are very close to being done. I will put up new assets when both are done. The original goal of getting Mega Man 1 - 6 done by the end of the year probably isn't going to happen. The first release will contain all assets pertaining to the first campaign. This will also include certain skins.

I am putting CTF textures up as a psuedo-break before we get in to Mega Man 4. I would like the music to be completely done before that happens. There are only 9 CTF songs left.

Also, I added a strawpoll to the first post (because apparently you can't reset a poll's end date...) about weapon submissions. If weapons are not treated as a different asset type, then weapon sounds and sprites will be included in with other sounds and sprites. If they are, then all sounds and sprites will be separated by weapon. This is mostly for organizational purposes. I'll leave it up for the weekend, then I'll do one more poll regarding weapons. I'll probably be putting up map props for the next asset type.

Mega Man 1 props are now available. I also put up a new poll question if HUDs should be replaced. You can either vote no, yes for each weapon (e.g. Blizzard Attack gets a new hud, ice slasher gets another etc.), or yes for 1 base hud (as in blizzard attack, ice slasher etc have the same hud and bar except for coloration).

Mega Man 2 props are done. Mega Man 3 props have been uploaded.

We are 33% done with Mega Man 5 textures so far. Still too many to list, but Stone Man only has 19 textures left. Hopefully this will get done by the end of the month so we can start on the final texture set and finally start on other submissions.

I'm going to jump right in to Mega Man 6. The new v5b stuff will be handled with light lab and other miscellaneous stuff after Mega Man 6. This is the last texture set that needs editing.
