Title: how to use downloaded skins?
Post by: Anonymous on October 26, 2010, 10:36:41 PM
I downloaded yellow devil, apache joe, and kirby skin. The only one I am able to use is the yellow devil skin because it has a pk3 file. How do I really use the skins?

In your MM8BDM folder, create a folder called "skins" and put the files in there. Whenever the game loads up, the skins will auto load.

Hmm. You mentioned the Yellow Devil skin was a pk3, what are the other skins then?

The apache joe and kirby skin dont have a pk3. It only says on the file "Apache Joe.pk3.zip" (i think) and same thing with the kirby skin.

When i click on it, it does not show a pk3 file unlike the Yellow Devil skin.

.pk3.zip? Odd. Try removing the .zip extensions off them is that is the case. It should run then.

a pk3 file is nothing more then a renamed zip file. Don't worry about corrupting the file.

Sometimes, people will put PK3 or WAD skins into a ZIP file.  You may need to pull the skin file out of those files to use them, in that case.  You should just be able to open a ZIP file by double-clicking it or right-clicking and selecting "open".  Note: If there's no PK3 or WAD inside, but instead a "SKININFO" and/or "sprites" folder, that actually is the skin file and should be left alone or renamed from ZIP to PK3, as Ivory suggested.
