Title: Parad0x's Megaman Playthrough
Post by: Parad0x on October 27, 2010, 07:25:43 PM
I am playing through all classic megaman games and maybe the X ones too. Below is a list showing the games I am planning to play. I will update this list once I finished one of the games listed below. Progress comes in normal posts from me, I wont edit the main post for that every time. I am doing this to learn more about the megaman games and raise my Megaman knowledge heh.
[X]Megaman - NES [X]Megaman 2 - NES [O]Megaman 3 - NES [O]Megaman 4 - NES [O]Megaman 5 - NES [O]Megaman 6 - NES [O]Megaman 7 - SNES [O]Megaman 8 - SNES _______________________________ [?]Megaman 9 - Wiiware, XBLA, PSN [?]Megaman 10 - Wiiware, XBLA, PSN _______________________________ [X]Mega Man X – SNES, PC [X]Mega Man X2 – SNES [X]Mega Man X3 – SNES, PC, PlayStation, Sega Saturn [O]Mega Man X4 – PlayStation, Sega Saturn, PC [O]Mega Man X5 – PlayStation, PC [O]Mega Man X6 – PlayStation, PC _______________________________ [?]Mega Man X7 – PlayStation 2, PC [?]Mega Man X8 – PlayStation 2, PC _______________________________ [O] = Not done. [X] = Game finished. [?] = Not possible / maybe in the future.
NOTE: Megaman X7 and X8 are not possible because I do not own an Emulator and my PC is not strong enough to run them. I do own a Wii but im not sure if I am going to spend points on a game at all.

Play the SNES version, better music and a bigger screen.
And a dash button, the GBA version makes you double tap.

Well could you list the differences bewteen both versions? that would be great.

Different instruments, different console (obviously), slightly duller colours in the GBA version, SNES has 6 buttons, compared to the GBA's four, which means in order to dash with Bass you have to tap move twice.

I guess ill try out both versions (SNES first of course).

GBA's a crappy port. Get the SNES version + English translation and you'll never want to play that port. With that being said. Taking weapons out of consideration. Bass is mobile. While Megaman has the high fire power. It's basically Bass' game with Megaman tagging along anyways.

Yes i got the Snes version already but i cant figure out how to get the patch to work, I named the ips patch "Rockman & Forte" the rom name is the same I applied it but when I run it it says Bad rom so I must have done something wrong, do you maybe have a link to a good translation? maybe I can get a different one to work..

The game is VERY easy as Forte(I refuse to call him Bass when speaking of the SNES game!), especially if you buy his "Hyper Buster" and "Super Buster" upgrades that increase damage and go through walls(not in that order).

Well I am going to detail my problem, when i download the patch it comes with 2 files " MMB-E.ips" and "RMF-E.ips" the readme says when i am using Znes (which I do) i have to rename the ips patch to the exact same name as the rom file, so i renamed the patch to "Rockand & Forte.ips" and the rom name is "Rockman & Forte.smc" so after I patched the file it gives me the bad rom error when I try to load it.
I am also confused what the other file is for the "MMB-E.ips"

Hmm...Perhaps you need to use the MMB-E one instead? I would probably need to, considering my game seems to think it's Megaman 9.

I can't help you with this next part, but you could try downloading an already patched ROM.

Thanks for the help Korb! I actually found a patched rom with the same translation pack I tried to apply and it worked like a charm I just played through the first stage and everything seems to be fine.

So I played a bit and defeated 2 bosses so far (cold man and astro man) cold man was really easy he got such an easy pattern -_-, jump over ice wall shoot..jump again repeat. after half energie repeat and kill little cloud thingy.
astro was a bit harder but nothing serious really, he had many attacks so I always thought "I got his patterns! *new attack* fffuuuuuu" well when he made clones of himself and shot that laser ball thingys i just dashed from left to right to avoid all when he was shooting that orbs that fly around him i just stay in the middle and shoot straight up. It took awhile to kill him since he teleports all the time but meh I got him.
Next will be the boss under him which name I forgot x_x

I finished the game today :P it wasnt THAT hard only the last boss(es) were annoying, I started Megaman (1) and finished it too, why do people always say that the moving platform on guts are so hard? I did it on the first try same with elcs famous stair room. After knowing the bosses weakness and using thunder on wily i was done I only had major problems with the ubble boss in wilys 3.

Good job! Now do it as Megaman :P

Actually i think the bosses will be even easier as megaman, as bass i had to shoot those bosses for like 20 minutes with buster...

For me at least, the bosses are a cakewalk with Mega Man, especially with a fully-charged Buster.
Getting through the stages so that you can even get to the boss with Mega Man... is an entirely different story. Especially with Burner Man's insta-kill firewall, he keeps denying my access to the network! :(

Once I have the time I will complete the game 100% but now im going through the megaman series, is megaman 2 harder then 1?

No. Megaman 2 is a cakewalk. Start with Metal Man.

megaman 2 is the easiest one in the whole series, still can be tricky because of the gun turret boss!

I just played through all bosses and stopped at wily, thats kinda lame that the boss eakness sometimes reduce 2/3 health... wheres the point in the boss fight then? even if i use my buster there dead real quick and i cang te hit like 20 times, megaman 2 is truely a cake walk.
So which one is the hardest of them?

i find MM5 the hardest, or megaman and bass if you're using megaman also megaman 7 because of the final boss

Im halfway done with MM3 and noticed the stages are way more challeging. I have to get used to that new jump tho. . .

also megaman 7 because of the final boss
Ludicrous how people officially consider MM 7 hard because of that one wily capsule.

Update: Just completed Megaman X2 the game wasnt that hard but the last boss... pfft what a bitch seriously... the normal bosses had a great difficulty and were enjoyable. Ive recorded 7 boss battles (perfect with buster only). I admit I used save states since I got hit a million times and didnt want to restart the stage for the videos sake. . .

If you do X3, start with the Rhino. He's a pushover!

So I just finsished X3 seriously the last boss is a slut I died 2 times on the lava part because after two bosses I have like 5-10 bars only and I get pushed by him i nthe lava in the end and lose all health -_-.
Somehow I managed to get through that part, I expected a 3rd battle : /. Anyway I guess ill go on with megaman 3 now..
