preferably one that is n00b-friendly :D
-
You can use Fami-Tracker. I can't say it's exactly "n00b-friendly" though.
-
Famitracker is simple. You just need to get started, and have its wiki opened just in case.
-
I tried using it, but couldn't get very far.
-
It can't do the music for you, you have to have the tune in your head!
-
I can't seem to add any notes to the staff
-
Press space, then use your keyboard as a piano.
-
hmm now its starting to come together
-
Use the F keys to change octives.
-
I use FamiTracker/VRC7 for my 8-bit music.
-
Here's a tip:
If you press < in the pattern editor, any instrument that is currently playing will mute. Use this feature until you know a bit more about the volume sequence editor :3

Press space, then use your keyboard as a piano.
Thank you. For some reason, I couldn't figure this out for myself. I'd been trying for some time, too! ASKJKJSA. >_<
In any case, I was using FruityLoops Studio and SoundFonts for my 8-bit music, in the rare occasions I felt like being retro. I made a(nother) Quint remix (http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/372415) back when Mega Man 10 was still fresh, but due to the fact no one's made a good Mega Man drum SoundFont, I ended up using Game Boy drums in it. The song itself sounds alright otherwise.

No problem. I was the same way until I watched a tutorial on youtube. I just felt so stupid after learning it was pressing space.
