Considering the fact that he was the main reason why Legends 3 was getting made, there's probably going to be problems.
(Of course, I don't care about that series, so meh for me)
-
What sounds rather odd is that he's choosing now to quit, especially when Universe and Legends are still being developed. But this I know, can't be a lie. I mean I think we all know where he's coming from from resigning right?
-
He's been taking about "someone taking his place" for a while. I didn't think it would be this soon though. Especially after all those promotional videos about MML3 and MMU.
I believe the fate of good Mega Man games (classic style) has just gone down the pooper, but I hope not!
-
maybe he'll keep developing those two games and then leave? who knows!
i'm not sure about the fate of megaman classic though, afterall megaman X6 was developed without inafune and that was a total trainwreck! we'll just have to wait and see! (there may not even be a megaman 11 anyway!)
-
Capcom Unity is reporting that all Mega Man and Street Fighter projects are continuing as planned.

The ramifications of this are gonna be sooooo interesting.
Thank God I'm not just a MM fan. Still, today is a sad day.
The fate of the Rockman franchise might now just rest on our shoulders and Capcom's.
Unless Inafune-san is just taking a well-deserved break. A very long, well-deserved break. He may just work on his own now! Godspeed, Inafking!
-
This is going to be exactly like when Yuji Naka left Sonic Team. R.I.P Rockman, you had a nice 21 year run.
-
honestly i'm happy for inafune, it's gotta be hard stepping down from such a high position! if he hated his job i'm glad he is doing this for himself!
-
Saw this just now on Protodude's and holy shit am I surprised!
It's going to be interesting to see how this plays out however and to see where Inafune ends up in the future.
-
if the inevitable mm11 turns out to be crap who else is gonna grab pitchforks and stuff to attack Capcom HQ?
-
It's not the end, it's not only 1 man who do the games I think...
Inafune didnt like really mmX serie because he wanted that his "Zero" (yes he creates Zero) was the hero of the "X" serie.
After, he did MMZ and ZX.
Anyways, it's Akira Kitamura who created Rockman, but yes, Inafune did great works (except mmz and ZX for me because there isnt real heroes as MMX).
Don't worry, it's not the end but it's the end just for the ZX,SF and EXE...
Maybe now, the priority 1 will be classic and X serie...
I don't know a lot the story of capcom and inafune but i try to understand!
(Sorry for my english, im french ^^)
-
i think ZX, SF and EXE were already done with before inafune quit!
-
hummm...yes! =o
-
if the inevitable mm11 turns out to be crap who else is gonna grab pitchforks and stuff to attack Capcom Castle?
Fixed it for ya.
Anyway, I'm glad he's doing what he wants to. It takes a lot of guts to do something like that, as brotoad mentioned.
Besides, they already finished up the good series.
-
As it turns out, Inafune wanted to create his own subsidiary company in an effort to have a more hands-on approach to game design (think Kojima Productions). Capcom turned down this proposal and shortly after, Inafune resigned.
Well that sucks cause I'd pick Inafune productions of Kojima Productions any day!
-
Well, damn.
MMU is pretty much finished, I guess, so maybe that'll be a nice swan song from him and loveletter to classic MM as a whole. But Legends 3? I was really, really looking forward to that, afaik it's nowhere near complete if even much into development at all, and also afaik Inafune held that series closer to his heart than anything else. So... well, damn.
If they can make something as nice as MM9 or 10 without him, though, maybe it won't be so bad. If MML3 or the next classic-style MM after U ends up being at least "good", I'll have hope yet.

Didn't he design the Robot Masters though?
-
Didn't he design the Robot Masters though?
Elec Man and Wood Man but that's it I believe.
-
Japan held robot master design contests or something along those lines. On MM6, our NA box art had Knightman and Windman on it. Which are the only robot master designs that were accepted and came from North America.
-
Didn't he design the Robot Masters though?
Elec Man and Wood Man but that's it I believe.
I thought he designed all of the original 6. Dunno about Time or Oil, and I didn't know he designed Wood either... I thought from 2 onward they were all more or less modified versions of contest-winners they'd hold in Japan, with the exception of 6 which had a Nintendo Power contest from which was produced Wind and Knight.

Copied from the Wiki
Cut Man
?Guts Man
?Ice Man
?Bomb Man
?Fire Man
?Elec Man
?Proto Man
?Splash Woman
?Plug Man
Are the robot masters he designed... so yeah, original six. That's new to me.
-
Don't forget Bond Man. Through, he was never really in the games.
I forgot about Time Man and Oil Man, althrough, they aren't very memoriable to me.
Time Man sounds like an old mad lunch lady, who always talks about time.

Here's an interview with Keiji Inafune

Inafune designed Tenguman and Astroman too!

Inafune designed Tenguman and Astroman too!
No fooling man!? I thought some other artist did it :
-
In the complete works book he says "Cutman and Gutsman were already done by the time I arrived" or something.
-
Wiki is not perfect ;D
-
Damn. Just damn. This is probably going to be a seriously big blow for Megaman.
I hope not though.....
-
Uh... If you read that interview, you would understand why and what Inafune is doing. I support him and hope he does bring change to the video game industry, or at least help kick it off more.
-
Maybe this is a good thing, he makes all these games like Resident Evil, Dead Rising and others, not just Mega Man.
He must be pretty tired after all the work, frustration, success, fame and other stuff he has to go through.
And besides, it's not like he's not gonna have anymore influence in said titles anymore.
Also, I hear the Mega Man series is in good hands, so I have no worries about anything.
-
Old news but since no one has posted this yet I thought I would. Mr. Inafune is out with a new blog titled "It's Keiji Inafune". If you can read it great, if not then use Google Translate or whatever works for you.

That is old news. The new news is that he is apparently starting his own company! Comcept.
http://www.themmnetwork.com/2010/12/14/keiji-inafune-starts-his-new-company/
-
COMcept? xD
Wtf...as capCOM..i think.
What can he do if he starts a company with nobody or just friends ?
Good luck for him.
But i think, the Megaman/Rockman "franchise" is for Capcom.
