The Shark will be replaced with the Fake Man chase if you play the game in software graphics mode.

You have to beat the shark first, but after that,
(click to show/hide)
you have to approach the door to your right before your fight with Protoman. The door will close and you should get a message at the top of your screen that an alternate fight has been triggered. Just beat Protoman after that.
