Title: Narrowly escaping death is . . . noobish?
Post by: RaviorTebu on November 06, 2010, 03:28:37 AM
Tonight I was accused of being scrubby by one guy because I sometimes narrowly escape death (or "run away" if you prefer) and come back after collecting some health ups. Strategy, right?

Of course, I believe he was just upset because I kept beating him. But I want to make sure of something: Is it really noobish to run away? Is it noobish to barely escape death? I want to make sure I'm not winning just because I'm doing some unspoken thing that no one does because they think its "noobish".

Of course not. A good rule of thumb is, do not pay attention to what other players accuse you of. Do what you think is right, and not what others say.

Running away is far from noobish. It's more idiotic to fight to the death anyways. Live to fight another day.

Of course it's noobish.  The smart thing to do would be to die and give your opponent points.  Duh.

This man speaks the truth. It's what every true gamer strives for! Letting their opponents win!
Oh whats this? My Sarcasm Reader is going off the charts....Wonder why.

During a Roboenza match in Bombman's stage, there were like 4 zombies left while I was the only survivor.

I ran. Forever. And won.

I wasn't called out for doing that though. I was out of ammo, and really doubted that the megabuster would do any good, so all the better to run in that situation.

The same thing happened to me yesterday, but someone did call me out. I just ignored the one guy and kept playing. :3

Indeed. I often try to fend them off with the buster but because I'm not watching where I'm running, I get zombied

It's normal to look for energy when near to death. Not noobish at all.

And running sometimes is the best tactic in Roboenza unless you are surrounded by a horde of zombies <.<

Then you can't run that well.

Well, thank you guys for the heads up. I'll remember to not pay attention to comments like that in the future. Especially when I'm winning. :D

Of course its not, it even makes you a better player, there is a reason there so many health pickups on the map, I always kill someone then gather health as fast as possible so I wont be 1-hitted by the next person I run across :P

The one thing I find noobish is killing/infecting people when they're talking. If you're gonna do that then get off the server or get some skill.

^ I used to have a problem with it, but not any more.  There are several reasons why.

1) The chat bubble doesn't always pop up
2) I've not shot somebody because they were talking only to turn around and have them shoot me in the back.
3) If they're getting chased, they'll just start talking so nobody touches them.
4) Most importantly, we're in the middle of a game.  There's no time outs.  If I see somebody, I shoot.  End of story.

Yes.  This right there.  Llama badge be damned, there are no time-outs in Deathmatch unless you're dead.  People need to learn this.  I know it may sound harsh, but you know what?  95% of the people on there are there to kick your ass, not chat.  You wanna chat?  Hit up IRC.  Or die.  Or spectate.  Whichever.  :x

You were moaning at me for shooting you when you were typing...  :|

Well its even worse in a normal deathmatch server ( im talking about doom2 / skulltag now) When i am having an duel with someone and he starts chatting with the spectators all the time and I shoot him down he is all like "noob! wait till im finished!" So i was beeing an ass watched his chat bubble and shot when it was away, after that he was dead and kept on chatting really annoying I left in the end since I wanted an duel..

I generally only complain if other people complain to me first.  Either that, or if I'm annoyed at something else.

Noobish? I'd call it OWNAGE in some cases. Like when I was left alone with an Invasion Mode boss in Doom 2 Skulltag. It was a Cyberdemon that fired rockets as if it was with Spread Rune. As he kept firing, I only poked the right direction! XD Conclusion? Defeated him with 10 health (I started fighting him with 100, when my partner died I was only with 10)

Narrowly escaping death is never noobish.
but of course the better you are. the more shots you will dodge
and that will result in more hp

I know picking up health item is a stratergy in DM. But it so annoying.
Because when somebody have low HP he will run away and you have to chased him. If he succesful pickup health item. You have to beat him again.
I wish Item respawn is off or at least have longer time to respawn.

That's a good idea to escape. I get a decent score half of the time with that strat(unless Celebi's on, DAYUM she's good.), other times I'll just suicide rush with Starcrusher. Sometimes it pays off, other times not.

As for killing people who type, I never thought of that of them being dishonorable. Once you've started typing you become a easy target no matter what.

this game is improving my wpm.

whatse really noobish is piggyback fragging, youre attacking someone and youre about to frag them only to have someone behind you use a powerful 2hk weapon killing you and easily fragging the person that you spent all that time wearing down

Again, that's strategy...even though I don't like it.

I love that strategy. It works every time. I see 2 players duelling it out, DIE DIE DIE!!

Excellent.

Alot of people with the mindset of "Running away for health is noobish" when you do it, probably think winning is also noobish when you do it. :/
Typical online experience.
