Even better:  A Shy Guy on stilts!

Somebody needs to make it, I love Shy Guys.  That somebody not being me, of course.

You guys read my mind, I WAS going to make a Shy Guy next, I love 'em. I just gotta look for some sprites with a fitting style, I'll upload a preview when I get the time.

Hell yes. I just saw this guy in the game(Recently got it), too.
I would love a Shy Guy, whether he is on stilts or not. How do you plan on making it shoot? I'd imagine a Snifit would be way easier in terms of shooting, but whatever.
Title: Re: Lio's Workshop (Jerry Released)
Post by: Lio on November 19, 2010, 06:29:37 AM
I was thinking on giving him a slingshot, it seems to be a common toy for the Shy Guys.
That or this. (http://i544.photobucket.com/albums/hh324/Lio6/F2F8.png)
I plan on making a ton of Mario baddies, but it all depends on how much time I get to skin 'em.

A slingshot would be pretty sweet, actually. A slingshot that shoots plasma.

you could always make the propeller head ones that spit fireballs

What about the ones from Mario 3 that spat those metal balls at ya?

Sounds pretty awesome to me. A propeller one sounds great too. We will see~

There are no Shy guys on Mario 3. Do you mean the blue things with a metal shell that appeared in the snow world? Or maybe it's a Snifit? Because those don't appear on Mario 3 either.

ShyGuy on stilts!

I'll probably just do both. I was going to make a regular one only but a Shy Guy in stilts can cause some good laughs. How tall should I make it I wonder?
Title: Re: Lio's Workshop (Jerry Released)

Hmm... Shyguy the size of Megaman's head using stilts that are his size.

Just to show some progress of some kind, I added 2 previews of some of the skins I'm working on. Nothing too fabulous, but I guess it's something.
No Shy Guy preview yet though, I want to release it on one go along with the Stilt Guy.

Two things:
1: GB Link looks like his sprites were resized a bit, but I'm unsure if it's just my eyes lying to me.
2: HELL YES BLACK MAGE.
Title: Re: Lio's Workshop (Jerry Released)
Post by: Lio on November 23, 2010, 09:42:02 PM
Yeah, Link sprites are resized. The normal were waaaay too small. I totally agree they stand out though, I'll scale them down a bit to make it less obvious. I need to shade the skin correctly too.

Will BM's robe change color, or just his hat?

Also, hadoken for firing, yes?
Title: Re: Lio's Workshop (Jerry Released)
Post by: Lio on November 23, 2010, 09:49:20 PM
They both change color, but I'm not sure if I'm happy with the palette on the hat, maybe I'll change it back to normal and add cyan to the robe. I'll see what works best.

Black Mage released! Go get him on the first post!
I didn't like how the front sprites came out, he looks kind of fat, so I'll probably update it some time soon. Enjoy until then!

Thank you, Alucard. Well I'll just take this chance to say I've been working on a side-project which requires a lot of ripping and editing, so I don't have time to make MM8BDM skins right now. BUT, I have a lot of skins I left unfinished (Shinki from Touhou, Kohaku from Melty Blood, Shy Guy, etc.) that I plan on doing when I'm free so this is not dead yet, they'll just take a while.

If anything, I'll update the front and back sprites on Black Mage because, like I said, he looks fat in comparison with the side sprites, so expect the update in the next coming days if nothing comes suddenly comes up. Oh and a big thanks to everyone who uses my Black Mage skin online, it's great to see people like it and it motivates me to keep working on these.

Haha, that's great then. Good luck with future skins, hoping they'll be awesome. After all, ever since the BM skin came out my online name has been Black Mage with that skin.

I don't think the Black Mage looks very fat at the front..
Title: Re: Lio's Workshop (Black Mage Released)
Post by: Lio on January 09, 2011, 02:15:13 PM
Well not fat, his head is just a pixel or two bigger than on his side sprite, and I think the robe is too. But if everyone thinks it's fine then I guess I can leave it like that, saves me a bit of work after all.

Just a tiny bump to show you guys a preview of something I'm working on:
Merry Nightmare from Yumekui Merry.

A friend of mine just started watching the series and asked me if I could make her into a skin. To be honest, I fell in love with the character at first glance so I couldn't say no.

It'll probably take a while, but I think it'll be worth it, I really need another female skin to use instead of the Touhou ones. And well, I've been procrastinating instead of finishing these, so hopefully this little request will keep my spriting mood up to finish the rest of my projects.
Title: Re: Lio's Workshop (Black Mage Released)

Bump with some news.

My last request was finished but unfortunately my friend asked me to refrain from uploading it for you guys for a lot of reasons I will not list here (I don't expect anyone to care anyways). So I'll unveil a project I've been working on in my free time these past weeks. I'm planning on doing all the skins of my favorite Final Fantasy jobs, and if I find myself having fun while at it, why not? I'll skin all the Final Fantasy jobs.

The three skins I've been (really) slowly working on are:
Magus/Warlock

Geomancer

Devout/Shaman

Like you would expect from me, these will take a long time to finish since I have a lot of hobbies to attend and I sprite just for fun and when I feel like it. But if you want to help me complete this tiny skin project, feel free to. If you don't, well that's too bad. I'll try to finish it on my own anyways.  :p

Now that I finished most of my nostalgia game runs and got through some irl issues, I can come back to my lil dark corner and do stuff.

Anyways, I need to ask you guys something. Which style looks better for this skin?
I'm more into the 1st row in terms of purrdy, but the 2nd would look better in-game. What do you think?

I'd rather not have three of the same skin, so go with Number 2, or 3 if you want the first see-through character in the game.
Title: Re: Lio's Workshop (Black Mage Released)

Alright I'm going to use the transparent one for the skin then. Almost done with the sprites, I just need to stop procrastinating even more and finish the rest of the rotations.

In other news, I finally tidied up the first post. I added a list of what I'm working on at the moment and an estimate of the progress I have on each skin.

Ooh! You should add the 'skree' sound effect for a taunt. That would be awesome.
However, I have no idea where to find said sound.
Title: Re: Lio's Workshop (Metroid Released)
Post by: Lio on March 09, 2011, 11:59:21 AM
Yeah, finding the sound clips is going to be a pain in the ass. But I really want to use custom sounds on the skin, a taunt at least, so I'll try to record them myself if I don't find any on the net.

Post by: Lio on April 01, 2011, 11:47:13 PM
I found some sound clips for the Metroid after a bit of search, but I can't seem to make them work. So that's on hold until I can record them myself.

In the mean time, I updated Black Mage with a taunt for a few laughs. Link updated in the first post, please redownload.

UBER BUMP OF JUSTICE

Lio I know you're alive since your profile says you last visited yesterday night so I'll make this quick.

I am requesting permission to use the Black Mage skin for a CSCC class of mine.

I bet you forgot about this thread so I'm also asking how your other skins (read: Shaman) are coming along.

Please and thank you!

Go right ahead, I don't mind. I'm actually surprised you went through the trouble of asking.

Unfortunately, I don't play that much anymore, so don't expect the rest of the skins to be finished anytime soon. Maybe someday though!

I lost most of these skins after a hard drive failure a few months back, sorry. However, it's something I want to do since I absolutely love Kohaku. I may get around to it sometime since Jafar saved some of the base sprites I used, luckily.

Updated Black Mage a few days ago since I was in the mood, just uploaded and updated the post with it.

Tweaked the front and back sprites like I said I would a long time ago and added a custom pain sound from FF, which I'm starting to think was a bad idea.

Better late than never! (By which I mean I never check anything, since I'm dumb.) Though by that logic, I could simply fix it myself and give the original creator the fixed colour version.
Title: Re: Lio's Workshop (Black Mage Updated)

Sorry, I'd rather keep it as it is. I switched it because I didn't want to go by the NES color limit and it looked better to me.

A lot of the sprite is heavily edited to look better anyways, like the hat.

Must be the new palette then since that's not supposed to happen. I wouldn't know since I haven't actually played the game in quite a while, my bad.
