Title: Wildvine47's Skinapalooza (Watch this space!)
Post by: wildvine47 on November 24, 2010, 12:56:29 AM
Hey everybody, Wildvine47 here.  Some of you from Turbomans Place know me as Chillman.  I love 8BDM and have done some spritework in the past, so I decided to join everybody else in making skins for this amazing game.

So without further ado, here's a preview for my first skin, Bowser.

There's already Mario and Luigi skins out there, so I figured I'd give them someone to spar against.

Skinlist (Likely in order, but we'll see):
Bowser - In progress
Samus - Not started
Hal Bailman - Not started
Yoshi - Not started
Donkey Kong - Not started
Peach - Not started
Simon Belmont - Not started
Tinstar - Not started
Megapet Pack (Rush, Tango, Beat, Treble, Reggae) - Not started

ATTENTION SPRITE RIPPERS:
I need someone to rip the sprites for Hal Bailman and Tinstar before I can start their skins.  Hal Bailman is from the NES game Air Fortress, and Tinstar is from the SNES game Tin Star.  Whoever can rip these for me has my eternal gratitude.

Bowser is yes. His shell is blue, correct?

However, I personally think the hair and eyebrows should be blue and the mouth should be cyan, but that's just my opinion.

You could also leave the front of the shell(seen on his front pose) the original color if you'd like.

What Korby said. Can you try something else with the teeth? He's kind of like Pacman right now. The rest is pretty awesome, great work.

I probably do need a bit more cyan on this pose (probably the hair or stomach), but his sideposes will have more cyan than this one.

And the teeth are a known issue.  I wasn't completely finished with them, but I was a bit excited to get the topic up so I left them for now.  :D

Fixed the issues you guys had, and I have to say, it looks infinitely better.  Thanks for the suggestions guys!

This may be me just being nitpickey, but here's exactly what I meant:

Notice how his mouth is now cyan and his eyebrows are blue instead.
I'm unsure if this would look better, so you should probably test it out with some weapon palettes.

Wow, that was a huge improvement! Great job, can't wait to see it finished.
But again, I'm with Korby here. I'm almost sure the weapon palettes will look better with the cyan on the mouth. That way the bottom of his shell will be recognizable from the mouth and won't make the skin coloring look dull.

Oh hey, that color scheme does look better, thanks.

I'm working on his forwards-facing movement right now, so that'll be done in a bit.

I feel like a lot of skinmakers use TOO MUCH blue and cyan

The entire skin doesn't have to only be those colors...

If you really want, you can do Simon Belmont.  I actually have sprites of him dressed as Knightman, so if you do do him, could I use your sprites to port Knight-Simon over him?

If he does that, then I'll be requesting him an Alucard and a Dracula (both Castlevania, of course)

Oh, one other thing.  I need the help of a sprite ripper to get the sprites for Hal Bailman and Tinstar.  They're from Air Fortress (NES) and Tin Star (SNES) respectively. Both are amazing but little known games and I haven't been able to find their sprites anywhere.  If someone could rip them for me, I would be forever grateful.

Anyone?  I'll need these guys pretty soon.

All of Bowser's front sprites are done.  On to the rotations!  (Sorry if I'm moving a bit slowly, DKCR is eating my soul currently by being such an awesome game.)

Ok, bad news-bad news time.

1st bad news is that I broke my laptop  (posting from a different comp right now)
2nd bad news is that because of this, Bowser is gonna be delayed till its fixed.

Also, I still need those spriterips of Hal Bailman and Tinstar.
