I had obtained a hexen iwad and tried to join a hexen server on doomseeker. wadseeker found some other wad it needed, but after the hexen loading screen finished the game would just crash due to an access violation or somesuch. I didn't save the logs because I thought it wouldn't matter enough to send to anyone and I couldn't decipher them for myself.
On someone's suggestion I tried loading up the hexen wad on skulltag offline (the skulltag installation packaged with MM8BDM is the only one I have if it is relevant).
I had thought I'd tried this before only to have it fail but this time it worked!
Unfortunately, it still gave me some kind of crash error upon exit, and after that any time any sort of skulltag game, MM8BDM included, starts loading, a loud buzzing sound is heard and doesn't stop even after the game has loaded up. This is kind of a problem. I've tried reinstalling mm8bdm over the old files but to no change. Any ideas what to do?

Moved because that help forum is for mm8bdm, not other doom games.
what version of hexen do you have? 1.0 or 1.1?

Honestly I'm not sure, but considering I'm mainly trying to make MM8BDM work without screaming at me now, I think it crosses the 'general doom' no-man's-land...

If you run hexen, it should say on the title screen. Because if you were using 1.0, that would easily run into problems.
Anyways. Have you tried deleting your skulltag.ini file and let skulltag create a new one.
Also I moved it back to help since it was less to do with hexen then I initially saw.

Appears to be V 1.1
I tried moving the .ini and that did seem to fix the sound problem but all my settings and campaign progress are gone. I was hoping to find a way to actually identify the problem without losing all that stuff.
Oh well, guess I'll take what I can get. Thanks for moving it back though.
