I was just wondering. I haven't found a good tutorial on it yet and I don't want to screw it up horribly.
-
There isn't a tutorial because there really doesn't need to be one.
1) Open up the launcher.
2) Click the Add File button at the bottom of the launcher
3) Select your map (unfortunately, you have to add them individually, you can't just highlight all of them)
4) Open the game and select the map.
5) Play

Ah, OK. I thought there was another way that was more permanent.

No, just no!

...What's wrong with the skin folder?

It's fine for skins and other visual/audio replacements but for maps not so. Let's say a server is running a different version of the map, or the map includes things that replace or alter things (such as props or weapons) in MM8BDM. You'll get errors. Next step is to come here whining about something not working, when it's actually the user's fault for putting something in the skins and forgetting about it. I cannot stress this enough from past experiences
-
Only if the maps replace maps that exist in MM8BDM. If it's maps that arn't used then it's fine.
If you're the host and change to a map that you have in your skins, then this is user error.

Do we want to be promoting bad habits? There are plenty of better alternatives then shoving things in the skins folder. For online, I have every possibly location of a wad covered. For Single Player, I just use ZDL. It worked for all my Doom needs, and it's working for all my mm8bdm needs as well.

I figured that putting it in the skins folder wouldn't work, because, you know, skins folder. I was wondering if there was an alternative to the skins folder that doesn't involve adding all of the files into the Add Files thing in the Launcher every single time you start it.
-
If your just running it for single player, check out my ZDL tutorial.

That explains why my custom Crosshairs, custom Announcers, custom Music and custom Font don't work in my skins folder...
wait... they do.
Stuff in your skins folder open every time you load up Skulltag. It's not limited to just skins.
Whatever it is, make sure it's all client-sided.
