Title: Where do you buy your nightmare fuel from?
Post by: VGS2 on December 19, 2010, 09:49:49 PM
Alright, in this game, you have to...
Oh wait a second, this isn't a game at all!
Hehe, sorry 'bout that, I'm just so used to making those threads that... Er, anyway...

In this thread, I'd like to know what kinds of things you find scary, or at least found scary back in the day.
You can talk about your frightful experiences, stuff that creeps you out in games/movies/stuff, or whatever scary shiz gives you the chills in general.

Alrighty, have fun!

You know, considering this picture of him, that fear of Burner man might be justified.

I mean, doesn't he look like a serial killer? o.o;

After reading this topic, I'm beginning to fear Burner Man...Anyway, my nightmare fuel comes from:

Zero-Two. (Blood? In a KIRBY game?!?)
After hearing about the Lavender Town "Missing Frequencies", that.
Lots of Legend of Zelda stuff.
Old Cheatu (Pokemon D/P/Pt)
Hidden "Game Over" from Luigi's Mansion
Title: Re: Where do you buy your nightmare fuel from?

Wait, hidden game over? O.o
I thought you could only get the bog-standard one (Though that itself was quite unsettling).

Sorry, but I don't get nightmares from stuff like that easily.

If you guys are scared of that, I recommend you stay far far away from the following games:

Clock Tower - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7fLyjBO6 ... re=related (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7fLyjBO6EbE&feature=related)
Silent Hill - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=beAgEzJvt9s (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=beAgEzJvt9s)

So scary YouTube banned it!

Now my fears come from:

Yellow Devil (not the forums one...)

Medusa Heads

All the other Bio-Devils.

Medusa Heads

World 6-4 from Super Mario Bros.

Medusa Heads

That mask from Simon's Quest

Medusa Heads

Ms. Pac-Man. (She's Pac-Man. on drag. Seriously?)

Medusa Heads

Big Eye from the New Syle from Powered-Up.

Oilman

Big the Cat

Megaman 8's voice actor for Dr. Light.

Medusa Heads.

As you can see, it's quite a varied list.
Title: Re: Where do you buy your nightmare fuel from?

Big the Cat is about as scary as an empty tissue box.
Title: Re: Where do you buy your nightmare fuel from?
Post by: Alucard on December 25, 2010, 10:30:25 PM
An empty tissue box when you have to sneeze!

I mean, a giant purple cat that chases this poor frog around for a living! I mean, has there NOT been a Sonic game the Big has been in where he DOESN'T have to save that frog!

For that one I was thinking more in Froggy's perspective than anything.
Title: Re: Where do you buy your nightmare fuel from?
Post by: Kapus on December 25, 2010, 10:42:59 PM
I dunno, Froggy doesn't seem to be bothered by Big. They are (supposedly) best friends.
Title: Re: Where do you buy your nightmare fuel from?
Post by: Alucard on December 25, 2010, 10:52:47 PM
If YOU were a frog, would YOU like some big purple cat with a retard voice chasing you 24/7!?
Title: Re: Where do you buy your nightmare fuel from?
Post by: Kapus on December 25, 2010, 11:10:24 PM
Probably not.

But I still think they're best friends. Froggy only ran away from Big in Sonic Adventure because he was possessed, and in Sonic Heroes Froggy was quite happy to see Big in the ending.

So yeah.

Wasps. They're the scourge of the fucking earth. I don't even know if they fulfill an important role in the ecosystem, to me, their sole purpose of existence seems to be to sting everything they come across into oblivion. They're like nature's own indiscriminatory killbots.

I always evade dogs as much as I can. Even small ones that other people would call "cute and harmless".

Nosebleed is the worst thing though. It either makes me panic or fall unconscious. I just find it really really really scary to have blood running out of my nose.

I got stung by a wasp once. It really was not all that bad at all. If a wasp is flying around you just stay calm and don't accidentally hit it and you should be alright.

Oh how I wish that were true. Back when I used to live out in the country, the wasps in that area were just pure, unconcentrated evil. Not only were they trying to conquer our freaking house by building nests all over the dang place, but if you weren't standing 2 feet away from them they wouldn't hesitate to attack you. I literally got chased halfway across my gigantic yard by an angry wasp, and got stung by another on the back of my shoulder (and it hurt like heck.) And what did I do to provoke them? Just standing/sitting there. Really.

I don't know what kind of wasps you have over there but they sound far more tame than the ones I had to deal with. .__.;

Let's see:

Wasps, Hornets, Bees, Yellow Jackets (or anything that can fly and sting): Myroc put it best with Wasps but yeah I get uncomfortable with anything that can fly and sting.
Sea Monsters and Creatures of myth: It's bad enough that the ocean makes me un-easy (with sharks, jellyfish that can kill you, ships sinking.) but reading about monsters that were said to dwell in the ocean (The Kracken, Leviathans, Charybdis, Umib?zu, Sea Serpents and probably some others.) It just makes me even more un-easy. And don't get me started on the prehistoric ocean buggaboos.
Image Search (Or anything similar to it): not necessarily nightmare fuel, but it can scar one's mind (espeacilly if it's female, anthro, or both)

Hoooly  shit, I almost forgot  this thread even existed! How do you people find this stuff?

Well...  guess I'll add something! Yeah, I find all sorts of shiz nightmarey, like bizarre backgrounds (like Out of this Dimension's in Starfox/Starwing, which moved  about like some kind of failed acid trip, and when stopped, just  had... all sorts of creepy, unnatural things; like the planets staring  at you in the background), and also, very... odd looking glitches that look like something that came from Glitch City in pokémon.

But yeah, despite  that, I  love being creeped out by stuff in games, like the SMG2 frozen Hell Valley people, or Sinistar, or those rather popular RPG maker horror games ( like Ib, or The Witch's House and Story of the Blanks (which technically counts) and whatnot), or just... Waxworks.  I dunno why, it just gives me a thrill. 'Tis hard to explain.

Never gonna get over  that Starfox Background though... Especially  the  thought of getting stuck in a place like that forever, like ol' Foxy here.
(click to show/hide)

Oh yeah, that being said, insects can feck off. Especially stingy ones (I'm with you guys there), or ones that have lots of legs. I don't like that kind of scary stuff irl, ohhh no.

Also, this smiley:
Why, Mike, why?

I'd add more to the  conversation, but the laptop  I'm using for the rest of the week's a little bad. As you can see with all the double spaces.

I've had several nightmares about lava.  Fire is somewhat okay, but lava is the worst death imaginable because you're going to feel the sensation of liquid rock searing through your skin, seeping through your eyeholes and into your brain.  Acid also applies here.

Speaking of eyes, anything involving damage of the eyes is also a big no.  Empty sockets on otherwise unharmed faces are also terrifying.  Which is odd because bare skulls with eyes are usually helpful or funny.  And everything people were saying about wasps and such.  Bees are nice, adorable things.  Wasps are terrible.

Not all bees die after they sting, actually! Most of them also only sting when they are provoked/threatened. They're usually pretty harmless otherwise.

Wasps just seem to sting whenever they're in a bad mood...and they're always in a bad mood. I guess they're pretty territorial.

I'm actually really arachnophobic.
Just... yeughck.
I can't handle arachnids at all. Or any bug for that matter
And don't forget heights. Oh god, even if i'm like 3 feet off the ground, i'll flip. I like having my feet on the earth where I can't fall to my death.

The lose a turtle music from the tmnt NES game (Still scares me) Especially comboed with burning to a white ashy crisp when you die in the fire
The jungle people from Tomba while under the curse
The game over screen from Donkey Kong Country... aaand back then Tetris Attack
For some reason the Shadow temple in Zelda OoT dispite knowing nothing really is going to jump out
aaand Devide by Zero in that horrid coop campagn GummyWormz made (made a hilarious video of it however) OHOHOHOH OHOHOH VROOM!

In RL
Tornadoes
Any spider between the so small you can barely make it out size and Tarantula size (Anything bigger than a tarantula is adorable to me for some reason)
Ocean also (I don't like being in dark murky water where anything can come out at you)
Asteroids
and old used vaccum cleaners (Don't trust getting things used)

Oh also parasitic plants and mushroom (leech seed is the #1 attack I hate in pokemon next to acid +shudder+)

Aaaand any fungus in general, mold, mushrooms, brainwashing mushrooms, you name it

I feel ya. If you try to play Sonic Adventure 2: Battle and there's some kind of memory card error, you just see this screen with an error message followed by the disembodied voice of Sonic out of NOWHERE saying "Did you insert a memory card?" Scared the bejeezus out of me as a kid.
Also, anything that involves a dark area and a sound (ESPECIALLY someone's voice) coming out of nowhere. It's real specific, but it fits right in with the above example. Also, I can't help but be particularly iffy around jumpscares-even when I see them coming. Also, any large insect of arachnid on me. On the floor nearby, I'm fine, but on me... *shudders*. There was this one time where I was on the computer one time and I look to my right and see this ENORMOUS spider on my shoulder. I completely flipped my shit.

You know, considering this picture of him, that fear of Burner man might be justified.

I mean, doesn't he look like a serial killer? o.o;
Burnerman himself doesn't scare me, but the backstory behind him is kinda unnerving. Apparently, King tricked him into believing that he has some kind of explosive in him that will go off and kill him if he doesn't burn down and entire forest daily. Jeezus. Just imagine having to do something like that every day, or you die. I think that would explain the creepy expression, his plight may have just tossed him off the deep end. His dialogue in V4 isn't helping things, either...

I have to admit, it isn't that scary during the day, or at all for me.

That actually is a bit creepy. It reminds me of the ol' Dos games which lack so many visual details that it makes everything seem more mysterious, and in turn, freakier. Like in King's Quest, or something.

Also, on an unrelated note, this game's disturbing as all hell.

The Easter Egg scared me when I learned about it and what the message says.

Yeah, this game is nuts sometimes. I'd argue Shadowgate is a touch bit worse in that regard, but this game doesn't slouch as far as horror goes.

A lot of these deaths are from doing relatively stupid things. Interesting. See, these old games actually trusted players not to do this kind of crap.
