Eh, just a minor inconvience. Though I also rarely ever get crashes.

Look at the poll answers. For me it's in that order if it keeps crashing. :P

I hate hardware fuck ups than software fuckups. I can usually get around any problems I'm having with windows but when the computer doesn't turn on there's like 10 possibilities of what could be wrong, and it ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS turns out to be the last thing you try.

Windows, Windows, Windows...
All the crashes and stuff only happens on windows, not linux.
What is Microsoft comming to?

My XP is ruined by microsoft...
After Installing the updates on winxp, it started to run as alow as a snail.
Before those updates, it ran as fast as it could.
Also I kept getting BSOD when going outside in morrowind, even with a fresh new installation and Random Skulltag BSODs.

Windows 7 runs slow with alot of stuff. My 1st BSOD on win7 came from skulltag. It was not blue, but the Black Screen of Death, with normal bsod writing.

With Linux (ubuntu) it all runs fine, no crashes etc.
But there is a limit on what Wine can run though.

Using old computers as usual, I see?
The new hardware is just breaking when you look at it, unlike old hardware, which could live for YEARS, without a single hardware failure. >:/

I think it is some ACS bug with the weapons.
I only seem to get it randomly when done selecting a weapon.

Ermm... Why the hell would you try after you get it to work? Of course it's gunna be the last thing you try :P

Anyway, the most annoying crash is when I'm making steps for songs in Stepmania (I play on a Dance pad, I ain't a fat guy). Some times when I'm testing the song on a keyboard my computer just restarts it's self for no reason. When my computer has restarted it says "Serious error blah blah" If mashing the buttons can cause a serious error then I must be a programmer and not know it, typing out dangerous codes while trying to play Stepmania.

I would talk about slumped crashing but when it does that and I open it again it's saved all the changes so I'm fine with it. I don't mind when XWE crashes because I expect it. I never edit "soandso.wad", I only edit "Copy of soandso.wad".

I don't mind when Skulltag crashes because it's only a game. Not like I lost any work.

I've been having tons, I repeat, TONS of crashes/issues since I've changed my PC from Vista to XP, I always thought having XP would STOP crashes not ADD  more of 'em.  :?

Here's some of those:

-My PC randomly shuts down when I'm playing some games. (Onimusha 3, Serious Sam - The Second Encounter, etc.)

-My speakers went boom, now voices/sounds are chipmunked, forcing me to use headphones to listen to something properly.

-Games that doesn't require a good PC at all lag for me, while I could run them just fine, at 60 FPS when I had a Vista.

-And, of course, the Skulltag 97E/98A crashes.

I might just sell this piece of shit, along with some other stuff and buy another PC (not an laptop, hopefully).

All of my crashes have been hardware related.. Lol just kidding.

I normally have issues when running skulltag.. weird.

Sorry what I meant was like "Okay if this doesn't work I'm giving up" last straw kinda thing because it's so unlikely to work, and boom it works.

I bought a new laptop and it had windows 7 on it. "Fuck that shit" I thought and formatted without hesitation. Turns out that these new HP laptops are designed to NOT have XP on them and will BSOD anyone who dares try to install any other OS than windows 7 on. Seems there's little you can do but succumb to the big 7.

Thankfully Windows 7 isn't THAT bad. Just a bit of a resource hog.

Oh hell yeah.
When I had it installed, my cpu usage never went to 0 for more that 1/2 second. And the free RAM was much lower.
I would like to say that XP is the best windows made.
But I still like using ubuntu

While playing Kingdom of Loathing, me and my clan were doing a raid.  For those who have played, it was in Hobopolis against Uberhodgman trying to acquire the Imaginary Hamster (it's... a weird game), and it was maybe three minutes until rollover (nightly maintenance where they boot everyone from the game for a half hour).  I was the only one high enough level to fight Uberhodgman.  About 90 seconds from rollover now and right before the killing blow, my fucking computer AUTOMATICALLY REBOOTED ITSELF.  Like someone had walked by and pressed the reset button.

When I came back, after clicking away the "Your computer has recovered from a serious error" message, rollover had just begun.  That crash cost my clan the whole raid.  That was the only time in my life I turned violent with hardware: I smacked my monitor so hard it flipped through the air and smashed against the wall. Surprisingly, the tough little flat panel survived without a dent; it serves me well to this day.

By the way I found what caused the crash (it happened two more times): Avast!.... lousy anti-viruses causing more grief than any worm or trojan...

I just failed to get Skulltag to run in Ubuntu so I'm having the... shall we say, opposite feeling of that right about now. Heh.
Well, okay I got it to run after futzing around with libraries for an hour, but after that it kept crashing when I tried to change sound and display settings (full screen + dual-monitors = frantically stabbing the Reset button), but same thing really.  Sigh, I'll just resort to booting into windows when I need my Doom fix like I've always done.

Run the Windows build under wine, but it won't work in fullscreen.
Or, try installing timidity++

Also, try this...

When my new GPU (XFX HD 5870 XXX - yes, I recently got a new PC. I couldn't play on my Pentium anymore) arrived, it didn't work. It would crash. I was like "OMGWTFBBQ why doesn't this gay fucking bullshit fucking work *sniff*, MADOMGBSZOMG jesus christ why isn't this happening to some lil' rich asshole who can't appreciate shit. Whhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhyyyyy GOD? WHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHY FUCKING ME? There are 7 billion people on this shitty planet, why are you so down on me? SHIT! I was saving money for 3 years and when I finally got the damn thing, it wouldn't work!!! GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!! ..." and so on (I apologize for swearing, but that's how it really happened).

I wouldn't have been pissed off so much if haven't previously had to wait 2 weeks for the computer. It was later OK, but I had to wait a month for those assholes to replace the *beep*ing thing (insert a mixture of laughing and crying here).

This is the worst crash and not annoying, but it's worth mentioning.

Back on the old machine, I kept crashing whenever I played in game except Homeworld (playing Skulltag for more than a few hours, to be exact). One day while working on my RPGtoolkit stuff, it crashed during a test run and wiped out everything.

I unplugged everything and proceeded to hammer the processor with a pair of metal pliers. I felt better afterward.

It was a blue screen crash, and I think it was related to the video card.. but at that point, I stopped caring.

My laptop does blue screen saying "you've been locked out to protect your files, but there is no way of getting back in"..... so to protect my files from a possible virus... you've deleted them?... ok.

Another time I was working on a EDGE wad had spent all day doing DDF coding and pc just suddenly goes off power pack blows.

I was once writing up some work and also.. yeah it crashes during a word document and losing it all.. the worst thing is my dad offered to help me get back into the computer... i refuse his help because my wallpaper was that of a cute anime girl.. in a position.. and he'd see the image if he'd gotten back in.

During a epicly sexcellent ZDwars game, whin valley, 4 of us were dukeing it out in the middle near the water and I get crash :(

Hmm...
ok I have a few

1: Computer would randomly blue screen while playing skulltag using my SB Live Audio card with the midi type set so a soundfont.

2: Whenever I start my laptop in windows, explorer crashes, and i have to restart explorer. But if I don't restart it and click the shutdown (power) button, instant BSOD

3: Windows used CHKDISK on my laptop on drive f: Which was my ubuntu partition. It removed a file which caused GRUB boot loader not to work resulting in random WTF errors. So I have to Re-Install Ubuntu.

NEVER TRUST WINDOWS CHECK DISK, IT REMOVES YOUR FILES!
If it removes a system file or somthing which it has done to me before, it caused constant BSODs and System Errors. 1 time it removed a core system file because the allocation was not right, so it could not boot.

CHKDISK checked my USB and removed my AOW2 Models folder resulting in me using Recuva to get the pk3 back. It also done that with some of School work, but most of it was un-recoverable, resulting in me losing my work. I have the bootex.log to prove it.
(click to show/hide)

When it says that the file was truncated, it actually means that it has been removed.

because i was eating.

anyway, had another one just recently.

I was booting up ubuntu, and i got forced into some sort of tty console. so i used the command fsck and the problem was found. My system's time was behind the time it last booted, resulting in an unexpected error, so it took ma about 20 minutes to figure it out. well, it works now.

I think the only crash was a deadlock I got because Pidgin uses up my CPU ALL THE TIME!

Most of my friends use meebo. I've been switching to it myself when I have intense processes running and don't want to sign off msn (damn you Pidgin)

That is my suggestion. I won't ever touch Trillian again.

I remember back on my Vista computer, when I watch something youtube, out of nowhere, Crash. BSOD. Restart. It got annoying too at a point.
