Title: Trying to make a music pack...
Post by: Camo Yoshi on December 30, 2010, 03:53:38 AM
I did search the forum but didn't find a tutorial for it.

I confirmed that the music I'm planning to use is legal and free (No price tag to be found...)

So my question is, what do I need to do it, and how?

Thanks!

Just download Slade or SlumpEd, then add the music files the way you add files in any other program, rename them to anything you like (max. 8 characters) and you're done. Place it on your skin folder and use the in-game command to test if it worked.
One tiny recommendation, you're better off using Ogg Vorbis format. It's small, keeps most of the track's quality and works with Skulltag.

Ok, thanks, I was gonna convert to the .MODs to .MP3 but I guess I'll stick to .OGG if it works better (planning on using foobar200 to convert)...

Here's a little sample: http://camoyoshi.1.vg/cutstuff/muspack/ ... DMUS01.ogg (http://camoyoshi.1.vg/cutstuff/muspack/sample/MODMUS01.ogg)

Encoded with foobar2000 & oggenc2.exe, Ogg Vorbis at q4~128kbps bitrate (Avg.), 128kbps, 44.1Khz.

Note: You might just want to right-click and save rather than click directly.

Awesome track, I love techno beats. I can already hear this nicely playing this in-game, too bad it doesn't loop though. Looking forward to the pack.

Hey thanks, the pack has a overall deep bass theme, but not all are techno-ey.

Quick question, do you think that 64kbps would be high enough quality? The WAD was over 55MB after 128kbps conversion. O_o'

Well, I don't think it's that big comparing to most music wads here. But yeah, depending on the track I think it should suffice, since it's for an 8 bit game after all.

With 64kbps, the WAD is now 28MB with 17 songs. Much better!

Will upload to my site and post tomorrow... I'm tired.

Skulltag is conbatable with .MOD. In fact, the font MM8BDM uses is from "cybercrime3" from 2008 uses .MOD for it's music.

Make sure you don't hit "Save Changes" if you're using SLumpEd, or it will save it as a Text file, therefore making it silent in-game.

Hit Save All instead of Save Changes. Quite an easy mistake to make.

I'm a poet and I didn't know it.

Already had converted them to OGG so... :/ Too late. But it's useful info for the future, thanks!

Yeah I used the little floppy icon to save rather than using the menu in Slumped. Thanks for the warning though!

No problemo.
