I was thinking of hosting a 2 servers that are exactly the same so that 2 duels can go on at once.

Although this method works, many of the players will get a high ping because they are outside of Europe. This would give me a distinct and possibly unfair advantage as I would have a ping of < 5.

So here's what I'll do. I'll host a server and find someone to host for me in North America. This way we all can play (Unless some of us are from Asia or Australia  :| )

After a duel is over, take a screenshot of the results and post on this thread.

I'm a little... skeptical about this. Why just duel? Sure, it might show who's the best as an individual, but perhaps a partners tournament is in order as well? Some people tend to work better with a team then by themselves. (for people with a kamikaze-esque way of approaching TLMS (like how I do sometimes))

Although, I think the person who's the luckiest with weapons choice will probably end up the winner. Really good players could end up "crippled" due to poor (for them) weapons choice.

I won't sign up yet because I'm not sure I can commit yet. I'll keep an eye on the topic, however, and maybe sign up in the near future.

Wait, duel mode isn't like 1 vs 1 lms? Boy, was I told wrong/I horribly misunderstood that. I apologize for my misunderstanding >_<
Then again if people actually hosted duel servers I would have known. >_<
But yeah, team tournament might be cool for the future, but for now, this is enough.

I'll be busy for the next couple weeks, so unfortunately tournament is a no-go for me.

I see I'm too late...however, if we're going to have a top 25, it makes sense that there be at least 25 players. You can't wait until there are 32 entrants? Plus, wouldn't you want to at least invite the "elite" players so they can prove their status if they wish? I failed to see Celebi and King Yamato on the list. I hardly think you can have a true tournament if you don't even try to give a chance to these community-proclaimed best. I move that the bracket be expanded to 32.

Aww man, I shouldn't have watched Toy Story so soon...I wish I was told about this beforehand. I hope somebody will let me know next time there's a tournament. :/

While I agree we can have more than one tournament, the duel tournament was my idea to establish a top 25. Therefore, I also claim that I could at least have been given some heads-up on this and had a hand in creating the tournament. If you're going to call it the "Top Players Tournament," it makes sense it is to establish the true top players and therefore is based on my idea that we hold a duel tournament to establish a top 25. But I'm not going to be an asshole and say "you can't hold this tournament because it was my idea." What I am saying is you could have consulted me because I thought of it first.

Just 16 contestants is just not enough IMO. Lot's of exciting and successful tournaments happen to be huge. Though I must admit that there needs to be a "friendly number" of players to make things work, but keeping the numbers low is not the best idea.

There could be like the Round of 32 or the Round of 36 if there are enough people joining, or even preliminary rounds too. In short, keep your mind open for these ideas for a better tournament in the future.

Such as a specified frag and time limit.

Some maps should also be addressed as either tournament legal or not.

Thanks. My server on top man was agreed (and DTD told us anything under 20 frags was stupid) and we had a rematch on his server that I won too on magnet, so any terms agreed upon seem fair to me.

If he leave the match, I think that he has give up, normaly patchouli must be considere as the looser. I really doesn't understand why Firestorm lost with a round that patchouli didtn' play. And what if Firestorm won the second round 20-1 ?

Did you really need to give him the "ragequitter" award? He won the first time, so he should be advancing, not being forced out. And even if you were forcing him out, did you honestly need to be such a jerk as to give him that? Before I get the whole "It's just a joke" routine, there is such a thing as taking a joke too far, and I find some injustice in this. There was an agreement to do it on his server, and they played all the way through. If Firestorm had a complaint, he would've said it after a couple of frags instead of playing the entire game.

No. I never played as Iceman. When I'm Smash online, I'm either Helmetless Protoman, Link, or Power Megaman (although I never got a chance to use the latter before I switched to Akintunde). When I'm Akintunde, I'm always a Black Mage.


Anyway, Kapus and I did our match, and I'm sad to say that I lost. A stray gyro hit me while I was trying to find a way out of my tight situation. But I'd also say that Kapus and I are about equal in skill, as we are in most games. We were tied for the match point. At first he was beating me badly, then I took a big lead, then we were just fragging eachother left and right. (Not counting the overly long mind game with the Proto Buster. Which I won, by the way)

Well, There's always next time. It's such a shame we had to go at eachother on the first round.

It was tough, even with a 250 (or more) ping disadvantage that sent my connection to hell.

DTD means business broski. Since he's using GEEMTEE time and it's 8 minutes after midnight, I'd assume it would be complicated since it's 7 PM for me and I have to start homework and go to bed around 9 at the latest. I vote GMT midnight +1 hour, unless he shows his face  :p

BIG IMPORTANT EDIT: Teh and I were in Messatu's server, asking for a duel server with fairer pings after we finished that Mr X duel (5-0 win for me), and after a while of messatu not responding, Teh said "I guess I'll need a ragequit medal" and disconnected. Couldn't find him on Doomseeker or my server we just dueled on. Not exactly sure if that's a forfeit or not, but yeah.

I suggest a 1-round fight, not two... Since it often ends up being unfair to the winner of the second who may have lost the first badly. Make it on a server that neither player owns, and even out the pings as well as possible.

At least then the players have a fair chance.

I suggest it:

A Us server (no Orange Juice private server, exemple: ThatGuy Server) with 15 frags.
A Eu Server (No FireStorm private server; exemple: Frost server) with 15 frags.

the guy who have the best number of frags win.

What do you think?

Seems fair to me. However, we should choose the map on the server we get worse ping on (I choose the map for the EU server, you choose for the US server) to keep it fair. I vote we start on the EU server, so tell me what serv it will be.

With 10 frags from Firestorm in round 1 and 8 by the time I reached 11, it was definitely close. But tournament's over everyone stop having fun now.

Awesome one, Orange Juice. Yeah, this was fun, but I'd suggest we should have a bigger tournament, around up to 32 players. This one was too short. And yeah, I lol'd that the entire tournament was over in a day (today) XD.

The only way to determine the top players is to have ALL players compete.
If that cannot be done, we cannot determine the top players.

Honestly, it's time to give up on the idea. Not all of the "best" players are available all of the time. These servers could be put to better use by offering more modes for everyone, such as CTF or Possession...even Instagib, probably.

Heatman map sucked because the server of my friends had a problem, we had a big lag.. XD

See how we play can be good to know the problems....
