Title: Roboenza Map Pack RELEASED!
Post by: Max on January 19, 2011, 06:39:35 PM
ROBOENZA MAP PACK RELEASED!
After 2 (or so) months I'm glad to be releasing this to the public. This is a map pack which contains 8 maps created for Roboenza alone. I hope you enjoy the pack, I enjoyed working on it!

All 8 maps were made by me, except MMROBO5 which was made by CutmanMike!

Download via 4Shared (http://www.4shared.com/file/NrmQJcAH/Roboenza-Pack.html)

Here's progress...

MMROBO1 is a Mine. It is linked by a pipeline that transports minerals and rocks to the surface, perfect for sneak attacks.

(click to show/hide)

MMROBO2 is set in a castle and the land around it. The castle has many secrets, ranging from fake walls, floors, etc. to secret caverns. There is a sewer system connecting the level, survivors can use it too but you might be jumped on by infected coming from above, the sides, everywhere!

(click to show/hide)

MMROBO3 is the biggest map, a huge factory. Containing sections from Dust, Metal, Fire, Spark and Mr. X stages, be prepared for terrain and infected coming for you!

(click to show/hide)

MMROBO4. On first glance, it looks really boring, only a few height variations and too open. Well then, you obviously haven't been beneath the waves! The trenches cover the infected, they could pop up at any moment! By far the smallest map, expect matches to be over quickly!

(click to show/hide)

MMROBO5 was created by CutmanMike! (He made the game!) The original Cutman, trashed because it was too much like a singleplayer map and not enough fighting space... hm, that sounds perfect for Roboenza, doesn't it?

(click to show/hide)

MMROBO6 is basically Blizzard Man's stage... but you know how bad that map is for roboenza, right? Well that's where my edits come in! The oil doesn't kill you and the space around the boat is a lot less open. There's also a teleporter to the top of the ship!

(click to show/hide)

MMROBO7 is a jungle! This map was originally built for the mapping duel contest but I modified it so it would blend in better with the rest of the pack. It's small, full of rocks and slow water so keep on the move to avoid being caught!

(click to show/hide)

MMROBO8 is an icey mountain set in the Antarctic! Battle your way up and hold the high ground, but remember the two way teleporter!

(click to show/hide)

If you want to do a map for the pack, post here or PM me, cheers.

Sigh. Why can't I figure out how to do this even WITH Cutman Mike's tutorial!?

MMROBO4 is the smallest level, it's a beach/water themed level. Almost done, but glitchtopia. Flying bridges, non-working scripts, once I get this done I'll post some pictures.

Aiming for around 12 maps, but if I don't get any community maps I'll probably have to get it cut back to around 7... 5 are done so far, MMROBO5 is just Cutman alpha because people said it would be a good roboenza map and Mike suggested to add it into a pack.

ACS Scripts Unloaded.

What? I want them loaded! Why aren't they working X.X

Perhaps use blue versions of the textures whilst underwater in MMROBO3?
That will give a feeling of underwater-yness. You will, however, have to make them yourself.

Will do.

Bump bump, MMROBO6 done. I'll only be doing one more, doesn't anybody want to make a map?

...7 maps is enough for a medal, right?

Also MMROBO6 and 4 are both designed on Banjo-Kazooie maps :)

Bump bump MMROBO7 done.

I know I said I'd only be doing 7 maps but ROBO7 was kind of a mistake because it was a duel map for the contest but I modified it to work in roboenza somewhat, so I shall be doing ONE MORE MAP. My final release date is Monday the 7th of February. I'm surprised nobody else got involved! Anyway I'll be needing a crack team of testers on the weekend at some point, so PM me if you're good/play roboenza often/ i can trust you / i consider you a friend.

Yay I'm finally releasing maps.

Uuuuh I'm not sure how to fix them?

Try moving the skybox viewpoint up in Doom Builder and see if that helps.

Yes Yes Yes

Now we just need Messatsu to host it.
One question, though: Did you hide any Yashichis in theses stages?

No... should I?
Title: Re: Roboenza Map Pack RELEASED!
Post by: Kapus on February 07, 2011, 03:46:39 PM
Not necessarily. I was just curious.

I tried out all the maps for myself, and I must say, they were very enjoyable. I had a lot of fun exploring them, and I think they'd be really fun while playing Roboenza.

My only complaint is that there are a lot of places with a "Hall of Mirrors" effect. Its very distracting.

Post by: Max on February 07, 2011, 03:50:29 PM
Ice told me about it, but because we were running the same mode I thought it was just a one off. Truthfully I'm not really sure how to fix it.

The maps are amusing, despite the flaws (extended texture for secret passages in the castle, Hall of Mirror in various places, Invisible ladders, misaligned ladders in relation to texture). I likedthis "Treasure Cove", because at first it seemed it was just two islands... And then... I meet the underwater!

Also, maybe you should check the boat map (forgot its name) it has the gravity glitch.

Ah, yes. I forgot to mention that.

Invisible ladders are intentional (they make a good riot in roboenza).

Misaligned ladders?

Yeah the boat's scripts fuck up on occasion. Taking a dip in the oil will clear it, though, but once again not sure how to fix.

Post by: ice on February 07, 2011, 04:48:57 PM
by misaligned ladders I think they ment the one in devil's castle right of the waterfall. I can climb left of it, but I cant climb the ladder itself  or the right of it
Title: Re: Roboenza Map Pack RELEASED!
Post by: Max on February 07, 2011, 05:00:56 PM
That ladder does work. For some reason it's a little buggy. I'll do my best to fix it!

Ladders are always evil, aren't they?

Ok, here's my two cents.

You've come a long way, but there's still problems.  Layout-wise, there are really bad points that I'll call "choke points".  These are points that are just ripe for camping.  Most of the time, they're either dead ends, or large areas of the map which are only accessible via teleporter.  By having these areas, you run a huge risk of massive telefrags.  Also, in the first map, having that teleporter on a tall platform over a pit is really mean and only makes the problem worse.  The sewers in the castle stage seem to have a lot of these choke points as well.  However, the worst I could find was in Rusty Bucket Bay.  There is only that one area of steps to get out of the water.  If I were a zombie, I'd park my ass there because anybody who falls down is screwed beyond belief.

Speaking of Rusty Bucket Bay, the gravity seems to randomly lower above water.  It happens most often near the oil barrels and stuff, if you know what I'm talking about.

Overall, some maps have a decent layout with one major flaw (i.e. the aforementioned Rusty Bucket Bay water trap).  There may be some other flaws, but I can't think of it right now.  I'll try the stages again and report back.  Note that I haven't played them in actual roboenza.

Finally, one minor gripe:  The music selection for your third map (Koopa's Road from Mario 64) is not 8-bit.  It was made using GSXCC (or something like that) which is not 8-bit and sounds bad when put next to other 8-bit songs.

Post by: VyseTheLegend96 on February 08, 2011, 04:07:51 AM
Hmm

And yeah for me a lot of the skyboxes seem blurred.
Anyways, like Mr x has said, there are a lot of teleporters to area only reachable by them(im pretty sure), which would lead to a lot of telefrags.

But i also found a lot of areas in other maps to have very small hallways, which wouldnt be too bad if there werent too many, but there is a lot and that can be annoying for zombies mostly since you can get trapped....but thats just my opinon.
anyways everything i got to say is basically what mr x said. xD

The center platform in #7 slows you down like the mud.

Most of the music overpowers the sounds, so you can barely hear what y'er doin'.

I don't have any more music  :|

Anyway a lot of the main camping spots have become apparent in recent testing so a V2 is already in the works!

For my problem, you don't need to get MORE music. Just lower the volume of your current music.

Well, he does need to replace that GXSCC song.

Tis fixed, I'm working with YD to tune up some of the issues like that.
I didn't replace any songs as that's up to YD himself to decide.

Also, for the flying upwards pit in the castle stage, is there any possible way to make the second floor's pit not fling you up? That way, you could jump down and potentially escape some Roboenzoids.
Title: Re: Roboenza Map Pack RELEASED!
Post by: Max on February 08, 2011, 09:26:37 PM
That would cause a fail in momentum and you'd fall back down.

Unless there is a fancy code to keep momentum between teleports?

EDIT: Fixed for next version!

Evidently it's based on the Mario Galaxy one and not Bowser in the Dark World from M64. I prefer the old one, but if the community disagrees I will change it.

Considering the Galaxy 1 version is a remix of the N64 version with different instruments mostly, and this is just an 8-bit remix, it's the same song.

(While I prefer 64's over Galaxy 1, Galaxy 2's blows everything out of the water)
Title: Re: Roboenza Map Pack RELEASED!
Post by: Max on February 08, 2011, 10:02:07 PM
I personally don't like the instruments they use in it, and the first note in each scale isn't there.

I'll count X for a yes though, because he suggested I change it in the first place.

Post by: Mr. X on February 08, 2011, 10:03:44 PM
Oh, I wasn't saying this is the best remix (haven't checked myself).  Personally, the dropping of the first note of each phrase annoys me too.  I'm just saying an 8-bit remix of the Galaxy version is pretty much the same as an 8-bit remix of the 64 version.

However, I'd use it over the current one.

It's not exactly dropped. There's a low volume note that plays it.

But, yeah, I agree.

Looks good, but am I the only one here seeing a map pack in the projects forum? Why not in the mapping forum?

Is there some unrevealed unique aspect such as new weapons or ACS rules for a game mode to this that makes it distinct from just map pack?

Could a moderator move this appropriately if this is indeed just a map pack?

No. The I-Pack and X-Pack are in projects too, because they are projects.
To quote the forum description itself

The errors are mostly Skybox related.

in some of the maps you add F_SKy1 to the ceiling and floor. but with the walls you forgot to set them to line horizon, so the walls arent messed up.

There is also an error MMROBO2 (the crusher) where in the Buildings part, everytime i go up the floor seems to come up with the sidedefs but the floors stay there (i hope u know what i mean).

and in Treasure trove Cove, there really isn't a lot to do in it, besides the underwater part.

And a suggestion: In Rusty Bucket Bay, Add Deepwater in the dummy sector to make it feel llike your really in oil (you can make it brown underwater too).

I do not mean to offend, if you want i would be happy to fix the skybox problems with some of the maps, if you wanna'.

these are really nice maps, MAKE MOAR :D!
