Icy wonderland

the only things I find bad is the cave textres but that's just me, I don't care if this is my 1st deathmatch map, I need some honest harsh critique so try it, give some feedback and if you like it enjoy

And I bring to you, the Icepack, a map pack with an amazing 2 maps! :D

The only maps in it are a slightly edited icy wonderland and a new map called Lunar clash that I have very mixed feelings about. Sadly no screenshots due to my scatterbrainedness and lack of home internet >_<

That last screenshot looks like it takes inspiration from Mr. X's "Christmas Cape". I do like your choice of textures, though.

Judging by those snappys, it looks like a great map! I think I'l probably play it later on!

It's one of my favorite stages, as for the textures, I think there might need to be something to break up all the stoneman textures in the back room, but that's just me. I was going for a natural area not touched by technology look.

Welp, I'm finally going to try my hand at another map that's going to have a zoo theme and probobly make a map pack later, but while I'm finally in the mood to use doom builder again, any critiques on my 1st map? Anything I need to change?

huh... makes me think of the upper floors of the lunar dungeon in ff4.  nifty.
Title: This place reminds me of Drill Man's map, but flatter.

Okay, let's see what we have here.

Winter Wonderland is, well, bland. Lots of flat terrain, especially in the outside portion. It's also pretty small, but that isn't as much of an issue. Cut Man is the smallest map in MM8BDM, but that doesn't mean it's bland. Spice up existing parts of the map. Trust me, it's a better idea than adding more areas.

Visually speaking, the map is also bland in that aspect. Try and spice up some areas, especially the room where there is the same Stone Man rock texture on the floors, walls and ceilings. Be a little more sparse with the icicle textures in the interior area (are those custom?). You don't have to use them on all parts of the ceiling. I think it would also look better if water was on the horizon, instead of snow. At the moment, it just looks like there's a small pool of water separating the battlefield from a giant, flat (and empty) land mass. I'll have to use your screenshots to show you what I'm getting at for the next pointers...

Next, we have the thing layout...Make sure there are at least 32 spawns. Full games rarely happen, but you don't want people being telefragged on spawn on the off-off-off chance it does.

Health! It's everywhere. Considering the size of the map, you could cut the amount of health pellets in half and still have a comfortable amount. Also, what remaining health you have left should be spread across the map more. The most notable example is where there are 8 health pellets all in one small area in the middle, not to mention the spots where there are 3 health pellets in the same corner.

Looking at the amount of ammo, you do have a good health/ammo ratio (a good ratio to me is 1/2), but like the health placement, it's all bunched up. You should only have about 2 ammo drops around a weapon at max. Try moving some of the ammo into the corners...But if you do halve the amount of health, you might want to cut down on ammo as well just to keep the ratio.

ETanks should be harder to get to than WTanks. Here it takes the same amount of effort to get either of them. Your choices would be to make it so you have to cross more ice chunks to get the ETank, or just remove the ETank.

The weapon selection screams to me 'generic snow map weapon layout'...Aside from the Pharaoh Shot. There's also some weapon redundancy in the spawn placement...Why climb up to the upper area of the interior to get Gemini Laser when there's a Gemini Laser out in the open? Cut one of the Freeze Cracker spawns and move Ice Slasher to where the cut spawn used to be. I'd also suggest moving Pharaoh Shot to where the higher Gemini Laser is.

Also, if you fall in the water it says 'fell too far'...When it should be 'can't swim'.

tl;dr version: simple in layout and textures, and has too much health and ammo for its size. Weapon selection could also be improved on.

Alright, finally my 1st in depth critique, and you didn't skimp on the honesty. Extra points!

Welp, I'm going to attempt to make another map, this one's based on Sparky now, and once that's done, might make a full on ice pack

Though I need a tad more feedback on my 1st map, what could I add to break up the outside area? I made actors that are shoot-able ice sculptures that can be used for temporary cover (50 HP non ripable sculptures that break, then eventually respawn as a different sculpture), though I can't really think of how to execute it into the map's layout or where to put them unfortunately, any one else have anymore feedback?

0_0 someone actually posted here!?

But yeah, the stage is more baased on Ice in CSCC, though unfortunately due to the fact that I can't map to save my life and I can't even remember what a zoo even looks like, I don't think Sparky's zoo is coming any time soon. Might however make another map if an idea meraculously pops into my head

Welp, I made a new map listening to the mm10 final level music and now that I have 2 maps, it now sortof qualifies for a demi map pack even though 2 maps barely qualify as a pack

Sadly no screenshots for Lunar clash due to me forgeting them at home, as for icy wonderland, nothing changed except adding ice sculptures

Here's my opinions on the semi-mappack.

Quote
ICE01- A bit bland, but it's OK.
However, there's two problems.
Problem 1: The Ice Sculptures respawn to quickly and it is possible to get stuck in one, i suggest having their respawn time lenghtened.
Problem 2: An E-Tank? A W-Tank? Out in the open floating on ice blocks? GIMME! I just suggest putting them on a ledge, or better yet; hide them in a Ice Sculpture.

ICE02- My favorite, it's the best map of the two.
But there's just a problem...
Why is it called Lunar Clash while the ground is brown? The Lunar Sediment is grey. You should either: Rename it to Asteroid Clash or Recolor the Oilman textures so it lives up to it's name.

Geminibro's Rating: 6/10 It's OK, it has it's problems here and there, but it's OK.

I guess  I could use some item 1 magic on the sculptures,  really the only purpos for them was for cover and to slow down ice hoppers making the tanks more risky (roboenza + blizzardman ) as for the blandness,  the map's appearences are really based on the music in them,  chillman's having a dark cold isolated feeling to it directly influenced the similar feel in the map

As for the moon,  I just worked the textures I had on hand (pluss too much white/grey burns people's eye like woodman no constancy)

All in all I can't map worth crap unless I have music playing
