Title: Mega Man Mania! (Fangame Project)
Post by: Donutyoshi on January 27, 2011, 01:23:09 AM
(http://www.deviantart.com/download/189278071/mmm_title_screen_final_version_by_donutyoshi-d34ovw7.png)

So yeah. It's a Mega Man fangame that I was working for most of 2010. I believe it was started on the same month when MM8BDM started. This game is being made under Game Maker 8.0. Which is a pretty nice tool if you mastered Game Maker.
Unlike most Mega Man games, this one has 16 Robot Masters instead of 8.

This is the first stage select, it first seems like a normal Mega Man game. But really, I'm not really so satisfied with this. After beating this, you go into a stage which contains a boss battle.

After beating that boss I mentioned earlier. You get into the second Stage Select. These Robot Masters are generally harder then the first part. The reason for the missing mugshot is the fact I hadn't made that Robot Master's mugshot yet.

And I'll post more screenies later. And if you want some more proof of progress check my Deviantart page (http://donutyoshi.deviantart.com/).

surely it'll be more organised if you kept everything in one thread? making lots of threads about the same game would possably annoy people. try and keep everything in this thread if you can!

16 bosses? the wily stage boss rush is going to be hell

Now to think of it. I'll put this in one thread.

Toilet man? Ive had that very same thought once  :geek:
I wanted to make a mm related web comic featuring really dumb RM's.

I made up shit like: Toiletman, Paperman and Weedman
All of them giving worthless weapons. Still having a weakness chain and such

So what powers are your bosses handing out?

There's alot actually so I'm going to tell you guys the first 8.

(click to show/hide)

And another reason for why I'm telling the first 8 is because I don't really have that many plans for the 2nd half of the weapons.

I see you got your toilet man sprite!

I just hope he doesn't give you a "crap" weapon (bu dum tish).
Bad puns aside, this sounds interesting.  :D

@Killerchair, I was making up 8 of my own RMs that were all poor sexual innuendo puns, like Thrust Man (he has rockets) or Hot Woman (she uses fire) etc. and calling it Mega Man 69. Was never gonna be a game, just a silly image I should probably do, and sorta poking fun at the non-intentional (or is it?) sexual innuendo in MM games. Maybe it's our corrupted minds?   But seriously... Hard Man? Lost in translation? Why not Strong Man? Ahh doesn't matter, lol.

Hmm...

Dog-Man would look better is his ears were droopier.

Diamond-Woman's shading looks awkward, and their palette really ought to match that of, say, Crystal-Man or Jewel-Man.

Toilet-Man looks pretty bland.  But that's about it.

Bamboo-Man would look better if the lines were vertical, maybe a leaf coming off of his head.

Cook-Man's hat should be poofier.  Also, what's with the orange thing in his head?

Chemical-Man also looks boring.  With that design, you should probably have him wear a radiation suit.

Angel-Man needs a halo/wings.  Also, his head looks flat.

Static-Man needs more room for his face, you can practically see it on his face.  His palette is good, though.

Well, I'm aiming to base it on MEGAmorrison (http://megamorrison.deviantart.com/)'s designs of the Robot Masters. I didn't really quite designed all of the Robot Masters, but yeah. And I don't really want to insult him either if I used completely different designs. Surely I wasn't a great mugshot artist, but atleast it was better then these (http://img28.imageshack.us/img28/568/stageselect.png).

The engine is going fine. It's different from the videos of it you see in youtube.

Yes, surely you're doing a much better job than him, but I'm only critiquing to try and help you improve.  Now you've given me concept art.  Now I can critique more.  Below, sprinkled in with the critique, are links to the references I used.

Dog-Man's dot needs to be larger.  His helmet is too big and his eyes are too small (http://megamorrison.deviantart.com/art/Dog-man-doodle-180267544), and they should be slanted, too.

Diamond-Woman's helmet needs to curve downward, not upward (http://megamorrison.deviantart.com/art/Diamond-Woman-ftw-180385149).  The gem should be larger, and their eyes should be pointed, like Splash-Woman's.

Apparently, Toilet-Man is as bland as he looks, but his eyes are supposed to be red (http://megamorrison.deviantart.com/art/Toilet-Man-171287073).

...Actually, Bamboo-Man looks perfect. (http://megamorrison.deviantart.com/art/Bamboo-Man-Idea-171312489)

The symbol on Cook-Man is triangle-shaped, and his hat still should be poofier (http://megamorrison.deviantart.com/art/Cook-Man-171538656).

Chemical-Man's shoulder pads are green (http://megamorrison.deviantart.com/art/Chemical-Man-Coloured-172556733).

Angel-Man still needs wings (http://megamorrison.deviantart.com/art/Angel-Man-168260539), and--WARNING, OPINION AHEAD--I think he'd look better with a halo.

Static-Man, like I said, needs more face-room, and he's supposed to be purple instead of blue (http://megamorrison.deviantart.com/art/Static-Man-coloured-173356050), speaking of using the same designs.

THERE IS A SOCIETY WHERE HUMANS AND
ROBOTS CAN LIVE IN PEACE.

THESE ROBOTS SERVE MANY PURPOSES
TO MAKE SOCITY EASIER.
AND SOMETIMES COULD BE USED FOR
RECREATIONAL PURPOSES.

BUT UNFORTUNATELY,

*Explosions Spawn On City*

THERE IS SOME PEOPLE WHO ABUSE
THE POWER OF ROBOTS AND USE THEM
TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD.

JUST RECENTLY, ROBOTS FROM AROUND
THE WORLD SUDDENLY START BEING
VIOLENT AND DANGEROUS.

PEOPLE SUSPECTED IT'S DR. WILY'S
DOING. MAINLY BECAUSE DR. WILY
IS USUALLY BEHIND MANY INCIDENTS.

BUT THIS TIME, DR. WILY ISN'T
INVOLVED IN THIS ONE...

*Screen Fades*

DR. REGAL:
MY NAME IS DR. REGAL.

ALL OF THIS DESTRUCTION IS MY DOING.
NONE OF IT IS FROM THAT OLD FUZZ WILY.

AS YOU CAN SEE I'M ABOUT TO TAKE OVER THE

IT.

IF I WERE YOU, I WOULD GIVE UP AND DO WHATEVER

FOR THOSE WHO DARE TO OPPOSE ME,
MY ROBOTS WILL TAKE CARE OF THAT.

HOPEFULLY, THE WORLD WILL BE MINE!

DR. LIGHT:
MEGA MAN, ARE YOU SURE IT's A GOOD IDEA?
THIS COULD BE A DIFFERENT KIND OF BATTLE
OR A TRAP BY DR. WILY.

MEGA MAN:
I'M WILLING TO TAKE THAT RISK. AND I CAN'T
JUST STAND THERE WATCHING THE WORLD BEING
TAKEN OVER.

DR. LIGHT:
ALRIGHT THEN, JUST BE CAREFUL!

*Roll comes over to Mega Man. Mega Man is also doubting Roll.*

ROLL:
WAIT! MEGA MAN!

MEGA MAN:
WHAT IS IT ROLL?

ROLL:
I WANT TO HELP OUT. I FIGURED I SHOULD BE
PART OF THE ACTION.

MEGA MAN:
NO ROLL, IT'S TOO DANGEROUS.

ROLL:
I KNOW HOW TO TAKE CARE OF MYSELF. I CAN
GO WELL ON MY OWN TOO. I JUST THINK
JUST CLEANING THE HOUSE IS BORING.

*Mega Man shurgs.*

MEGA MAN:
WELL, I COULD USE ALL THE HELP I CAN GET!

*Mega Man and Roll runs outside.*

Duo?  I'm not too familiar on 7/8...

Anyway, I hope Roll doesn't have her lame Powered Up mechanics.  In my imagination of Roll, she jumps higher and runs faster than Mega Man, but her bullets do half as much damage.  We need a truly swift character for the Mega Man series...

Well the engine itself is almost done. I just need to program the enemies and stuff. The reason why it's slow is because I'm lacking sprites and music.

Well, it's been a while since I made a post. But here's a screenie of Toilet Man's stage.
This stage was scrapped now, since I'm going to redo the engine. Basically it's suppose to be a SMB 1-2 remake. Another reason I scrapped is because of the fact it had too many bonus items.

Though I will post an .exe file of the final version of using that scrapped engine.

Moving between screens is painfully slow. Also, no tiles? Toilet Man's pattern is really simple. In fact, most of the game looks a little slow...

I'll try to fix the speed later. The recorder does take up some RAM for the game's speed.
The reason for no tiles is the fact I couldn't get the game to work, unless I deleted the background/tileset files, I believe there was a glitch inside one of them. I'll try to reinsert them before releasing the game to the public.

I hadn't really shown my sprites for my fangame here, so here's some! :D

Dino Man's sprite. A certain friend of mine wanted me to use him.

It's the Red Devil, may be a taken name, but he's a fatty one. He does have a better sprite though. Which isn't mine.

Diamond Woman's sprite.

It's now Medic Woman, though I might consider renaming her. But for now, Medic seems a bit fitting. Used or not, still good. And the sprite is not final.

And now....

Hey, Dino Man looks pretty cool.

I like the music for the game so far. Toilet Man's stage sounds pretty good, and the drum and bass reminds me of Bubble Man's stage or MM2's level select screen, but it's good. The other song sounds like it should too, it's got that Mega Man feel to it.

Having done very little programming, I can't imagine all the work involved into making an engine. So for you my friend, complete respect!

I hope progress goes smoothly.

Honestly, I don't like many of the sprites you've been posting lately. There's little to no variety in forms of shape(They're all pretty much a small humanoid with skinny limbs.), and they're all SO SHINY.

My favorite is Toilet Man.

No special programs are really needed. The only thing that's required is installing DirectX (Game Maker games rely on that program), but that doesn't matter since it's likely to be already installed on your computer.

NEW CHALLENGER! Her name is Burrow Woman.
The sprite may be crappy, but you get the idea of what she looks like.

Might be cool to give her a shovel on her back.
I dunno why, But its just a thought that occured to me.
She's supposely based on the Burrowbot enemy from Sonic 1 (Which is founded at Labyrinth Zone and Lost Labyrinth Zone from Sonic 4).

If you checked the PleaseReadme.txt file which was included with the game itself. You'd see the credits.

Alright, thanks.
Also, instead of Toilet Shoot, don't you think it should be Bamboo Shoot?
Just sayin'.

No credits for individual tracks though.

Also, why no credit for KuroFox4444 i.e. KuroBit who made the engine?

Well, Hertzdevil made Regal Stage 1 and Toilet Man's themes, (easily the best in the game, love the chord progressions) but I don't know who made the other songs.

who did regal3.ogg, it completely ruins the 8-bit-esque feeling of the game

and because Mega Man never uses the MMC5 chip, MisterGambit's stuffs are all violations to what most of us think when the word 'NES' comes to our mind

by the way, why no tilesets

Actually I liked a certain song in Doom 2 that I wanted to be remixed in real 8-Bit and be used in my actual fangame.
I admit I did used that "G" tool. I actually wanted to know what one of the Doom songs would sound like in that style. Most of Doom's music is Midi, and "G" tool can "lol convert" these files to crap 8-Bit. I'd send the Midi if someone can remake it in Famitracker.
Of course I won't use it though.

Well, he's likely to change that in future. The themes he gave me were merely prototypes. And it isn't in it's final form. It's part of his style too.

Would this answer your question?

Say anything Gashisoft related again, and I will be officially rejecting the rest of the requests.

Also, why use RM7FC's horrid Slash Man rather than Baiisilisk's one? That's one more source of disgrace.

Lol, I'm sorry.

Well...I didn't really know it actually existed the time I used the RM7FC version in my fangame. I myself don't really see much of difference between theirs and Baiisilisk though.

It's just filter tracks for crying out loud. We won't hear them in the final version.

Meant to say this earlier, but it applies even more now...
NOW WE'RE COOKIN' WITH PIXELS!

-Dog-Man looks suspiciously similar to Mario.  Can't put my finger on it, it just kind of does.

-Diamond-Woman's crystals look like "flash" more than "glow," if ya know what I mean.  Background clashes with foreground, which is good (easy telling of what's ACTUALLY THE LEVEL) , but also bad (Cave stages are typically dark) .
Also, significance of "R6?"  Is it Dr. Regal's boss door symbol or something?

-Toilet-Man and Bamboo-Man look good for now.

-Assuming that's supposed to be a ladder on the right of the Cook-Man pic, that looks kinda awkward.  Needs fewer/thicker rungs.

-Everything else is A-OK.

Also, forgot to mention this earlier, but the new mugshots RAWKED MY SAWKS.

-I did got some inspiration from Super Mario World, and I based the FG to be like it. I could've recolored the tiles, but I pixelated to be close. Even the bushes/flowers are similar.

-I could've done it darker, but the way it is.  It kind of makes no sense. And I could've change the speed of it a bit.  That "R6" is Dr. Regal's logo.

-Thanks.

-It's a bit strange I admit. I rushed designing this stage.

-Kay.

Thanks. Though I think Chemical Man's still looks like crap.

This stage was scrapped now, since I'm going to redo the engine. Basically it's suppose to be a SMB 1-2 remake. Another reason I scrapped is because of the fact it had too many bonus items.

Though I will post an .exe file of the final version of using that scrapped engine.

...Not too impressive. Firing three projectiles in the same direction would be pretty much useless unless that is a rapid-firing weapon.

Why not make this into a charged weapon where the uncharged version only fires one such projectile?

It's suppose to be rapid fire weapon. Just shooting one would make it like a more powerful Mega Buster.

If the weapons go well as I planned. Then they will be certainly useful.

And here's a video demonstrating Diamond Woman's weapon.

A bit more complex then the last weapon I made, but meh.

You should be able to shoot Dog Wave like a spreader instead of a rapid shot (probably by holding some other button before you fire). That would make it cool.

Perhaps have a slight delay after the next shot is fired so you can jump and fire some sort of...wave...of Dog Waves.

I'd just keep it the way it is. It's suppose to be a rapid-fire weapon. And this is the only thing close to rapid fire, since I'm not going to program rapid-fire into my fangame.

I could do that, but not right now. When I insert the weapons I'll tweak that to make it possible. But, if it screws up the movement then I'd keep it the way as it was before.

But really guys, you'd find use for the weapons when you actually play the game itself.

Here's some footage of Toilet Shoot. It's a bit incomplete, but it succeeded it's purpose of existence.
And yes I was listening to Wily Wars music.

It's really 30/29 FPS when I'm not recording. Blame my bad CPU Ram and Screen Recorder. That's the main reason why most gameplay videos are slow, so much RAM usage.
I pretty much rushed the videos, just to show on how the weapons work. I didn't bother editing them too.

I doubt making concepts for a fangame isn't enough for me to actually lend it to you. To be honest, I gave Sebamkfan (Mega Man Plus) and Kakebango (Mega Man 9000) my engine. The reason being is that I did like their game and was graceful enough to make it better. Plus, you need to buy Game Maker to actually use it.

I'm using Oggs, and I hadn't tested if the DLL playing them separately would work, but I doubt so. Since the oggs used don't have multiple channels.

Actually that's an another reason why I'm not putting it in full public, I hadn't asked Kurobit's permission to post it in the public. But really, I'm not sure if I might redistribute his engine because I had put some heavy modifying to the dullbones version of his engine. I asked for it, and he sent me his engine, since I was in dire need for a Mega Man engine and I wanted to finish his engine because I had great experience with GM. So he sent me his engine It was a private one actually, it only contained a level with only the player physics and transitions (No doors were there and ladder transitions weren't fully supported), also there was a Screw Bomber enemy that was in that engine, but that's all actually. So I decided to modify it and work on it everyday, leading it to the way the engine was now. But it wasn't that long after he sent me the engine, he quit working on it because there was a bunch of bugs he didn't know on how to fix.
He did say he was going to send me his stage select engine and nsf playback thing, but he never gave me it. I dunno know why. So after getting impatient I decided to make my own.

On a totally different note...
Sure, I'll be in this fanart contest.
Okay.
But I'm not getting in this argument.

Toilet Man's Theme in Bubble Man's Stage. Not mine, but it's a rom hack alright.

IT'S NOT A ROM HACK, IT IS JUST A GAMEPLAY VIDEO WITH BUBBLE MAN BGM REMOVED AND TOILET MAN BGM PASTED OVER IT

By Youtube standards, however, this is a ROM hack albeit all the MM10-esque SFX cascades.

A bump for this topic. I got some updates, if people still care for this fangame.

Artwork and Sprites:

Behold, my super lame awesome attempt at making an intro picture.

Burrow Woman gotten a gender-swap and has a redesign to look a bit badass.

Weight Man's sprite. Not much to say.

It's Doctor Wahwee Stage 1. Old Tileset, but I'm redesigning it soon in the near future.

And for lulz, here's a parody of the DOS Megaman games.

Music:
-The first 8 Robot Masters themes is almost done. All there's left to do is to make Diamondwoman's theme which would be done by Mistergambit, as he said he would do it in the future.

-Phoenix Woman's Theme is done, can listen it here (http://fav.me/d3djqlk).

-Robot Master Boss Theme is done, can listen it here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jMF-kq2CIUY).

Programing/Engine:
-Cheats had been programed. Pressing the 0 Key, gives you invincibility, while pressing the 1 key makes you able to jump out of bottomless pits.

-New Stages Added: Bamboo Man's full layout, Toiletman Testroom, Platform Testroom

-The bugs reported are fixed.

-The performance of the game is a bit enhanced by the new version of Game Maker.

-Toilet Man has been nerfed a bit to be easier.

A bunch of updates. Now, I'm going back to Soviet Russia to freeze myself.

Yeah, I'm working on the new Private Beta without music. The other testers had the new one first.

Stop. Using. Shine.

VERY FEW Robot Masters in the series actually had shine, and when they did, it looked nothing like that. Yes, I realize I'm guilty of this as well.

Also, is that a sock puppet on Weight Man's right hand, and a Mouser head on the left?

And this will die as well because DonutYoshi becomes CadmiumRED.

Maybe Donut and Cad teamed up in behind?!?!?!!?

The engine's looking decent. Ladders seem buggy and scrolling's too slow.
Mega also seems to jump too low.

If something is 2 years old, it's safe to assume that it's dead.
