I recently acquired version 3 but I'm quite unable to run it... I got all 3 files in a GVH folder but I'm unable to run all 3 files at the same time. Skulltag doesnt seem to register them... am I doing something wrong?
-
Do you own Doom2? Unlike MM8BDM, GvH is not standalone.
-
Hmm... All 3 files? Only GVH itself is required to play GVH, though the Santa and Yurei battle files are optional (though handy to have in case server requires them). As is said above, it requires Doom2, but aside that it should work flawlessly on the currently used skulltag version (what tends to be the latest downloadable non-test-version available) though im not sure if it is as cooperative with earlier versions.
If Skulltag or the files arent the problem, are you running them in the correct order? GVH itself should always go first (or on top, you could say), and the optional files below. If you're most likely using a server browser you could setup a singleplayer game with GVH from there, or drag the main GVH wad (and optionally any other ones) on the Skulltag.exe, unless you installed Skulltag through the installer and due to some options it'll treat wad/pk3 files when double clicking them as if you dragged them onto Skulltag.exe, in that case just double click them instead.
And in case you might not have the latest version of GVH, it is available at:
http://phenomer.net/hosted/gvh/gvhv3b1.zip (http://phenomer.net/hosted/gvh/gvhv3b1.zip)
Thats pretty much all i can think of.

*Holds up Doom 2 CD* Yeah I got Doom 2.
And I Have 3b1, dont worry about that.
But I have almost no experience at running skulltag. So obviously I must be doing something wrong... and sorry Carthief but you just confused me. >.<;;
I Got the latest Skulltag so dont worry about that.
I Can get the game running all right but the extra files just will not load.
-
...You are joining via doomseeker, yes?
-
*Helmet floats up* Nope.
Running from skulltag itself. Double clicking the GVH mod itself and it opens Skulltag to run it.
-
As far as I know, you cannot open up multiple wads outside of doomseeker.
And now we wait for someone to correct me.
-
To be honest I Tried to start a Doomseeker Server but failed....
... but now that I Think about it I think I know what went wrong.
EDIT: Okay I set the wrong IWAD when it should've been Doom2.
I Got it running but unfortunately I have NO idea how to fight the Yurei Herself... unless the battle has been taken out.

Just to correct this, you can play offline with multiple wads enabled. You can either select the wads and drag them to Skulltag.exe or use a launcher like ZDL, which can be found on ZDoom Wiki.
And well, I haven't played against the Yurei using the GvH wad so I'm not sure about that. Sorry I can't help you there.

Lio, I did what ya said about dragging the files to Skulltag and that seemed to work well. Now I'm capable of fighting the Yurei myself. However one small warning. BOTS DONT HELP, THEY SUCK!
-
Bots only work in competitive modes apart from CTF.
-
Agreed. -.-
I hate bots from L4D... I hate bots in FPS games... I Hate bots period. They're stupid, they glitch up, they do nothing when you're in trouble...
Ugh!
-
To be more specific about ST's bots, they are only capable of targetting and attacking players, not monsters, nothing at all that isnt an player-controlled thing, or something. Though any stray shots still obviously affect monsters, they just ignore the monsters completely.
Bots make for decent distractions though, the Yurei may target bots so if you mess up they die, they seem to forcefully respawn themselves too when they normally shouldnt, like in Survival, or so they did for me with multiple lives.
Oh, and the Yurei's attacks change depending on the player amount, some get longer, some shorter, keep that in mind!
Hmm... They should work in CTF too but they're too stupid to actually do something with the flags. If it isnt a enemy player, it doesnt exist to them. :P
Atleast this game's bots arent purposefully set to autoaim with 100% accuracy (like ST's Ultimus bot), such as some Duke Nuke 3D ports have. Hate those bots, its unplayable, even the most professional players tend to miss sometimes, these bots dont, except they're idiotic with explosives. Ah, abusing AI... Kinda like fighting games.
-
heh. Cannon Fodder, that's all AIs are good for.
But I'm unsure how to access the "Single Player" of GVH.
-
Gave it a quick look and apparently its simply not there, there used to be a human and ghoul campaign, but eventually got removed. Though those bots can be a pain on both sides, the human bots aim sometimes far too well, and the ghoul bots (especially Jitterskull) can be pretty much instakill if you meet them by suprise in close-up, considering they almost never miss.
Ah... It was still something though, the Yurei was originally the boss of the human campaign, hmm... That was probaly when it had 10 levels, i think a 40-level campaign is a tad lenghty, unless they divide 20 levels to two campaigns, might be a good idea if those ever return. Just lacks a human boss (or boss-ish fight/location). :P
Edit: Oh, and the only actual single-player left in GVH is currently Yurei Battle, though works just fine online too, ah, was great fun, hehe...
-
I can imagine a human boss being a "Ghoul-Possessed" person... or someone who's gone insane from all the supernatural crap going on. (Thinkin Dead Space atm.)
