Title: Duke Nukem
Post by: Mr. Sean Nelson on February 12, 2011, 05:33:54 PM
I just played Duke Nukem 3D for the first time by purchasing it on XBL.
After finishing it, I have to say that it was a fantastic game.
So, I put it to you:
Which do you prefer, DOOM or Duke?
Also, is Duke Nukem very modable?

I love them both, they both have their ups and downs. I'd still say Doom though because I'm been playing it since I was a kid and have never grown bored of it.

I have to say Doom because it handles textures better (IMO).

However, the actual game itself, Duke Nukem. The weapons and maps are just more fun.

With a name like DoomThroughDoom, I can tell which game you like, hehe.

I know I should say Doom, coz it was the first huge follow-up FPS from Wolfenstein 3D, so pretty historic, but I had more fun with Duke Nukem 3D.

I think the thing I liked best about Duke over Doom was the "real world" locations, instead of the Hell and Future Earth locations (or random brown rooms, lol). Having said that, my favourite levels on Duke 3D were the Lunar Apocalypse ones.

Duke aaallllllll the way baby!
doom may have been first but that doesn't mean it's best!
at least when talking about their raw, unmodded form.
on their own, duke is definatly alot better (although dom is still great for some fast paced demon murdering action)
but the doom engine is so modable and it has such a great legacy that people have been modding it constantly to this day, which is pretty impressive!
i'd have to say you definatly get more for your money with doom. like £9:99 or so for an almost infinite well of maps and mods seems like a good price to me!

Supposedly, Duke Nukem Forever (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVuuyRGB_BA&feature=fvst) is coming out in May.

Normally I'd pass off anything Duke Nukem Forever related. This time though, I am quite confident that it will come out! So I am really looking forward to it! In the videos seen, it looks like they kept some elements from what they originally intended (looks like some Las Vegas locations) but they added (and this is what I love) the "classic" factor to it, making the enemies and weapons very similar to Duke 3D. All I can say is, "Hail to the king, baby!"

Yeah, that game sounds like the bee's knees.

Anyway, DOOM does seem to be more moddable, and the game itself is classically cool.
Duke Nukem is very cool as well.
So, I guess I can't decide.

They do have many mods for Duke, though.
I wonder how those are.

As far as the unmodded game is concerned, Duke is far superior. It's simply a matter of the Build engine doing more than id Tech 1. However, DooM has the more active mod scene and therefore gets my vote for best. Also, the Battlelords.

oh god the battlelords

Its 2 very cool games, but i will say DooM for the musics and the ambiance. ^^
