Title: Removed some badges
Post by: CutmanMike on February 28, 2011, 03:53:44 PM
As I am still getting bombarded with "mayb i deserv this medal???" PM's I decided to completely remove any medals that are slightly unclear or are becoming a nuisance to keep track of who deserves what. I could have simply made Ivory a badge moderator to solve this issue but I figured I'd just end it instead of shifting the problem onto someone else's shoulders (Ivory probably has enough on his plate just moderating the place normally).

Sorry if anyone is against the idea but don't forget they were only implemented to inspire people to help out or help spread the word of MM8BDM, which I feel is no longer a priority. The competition medals will stay as they're easy to keep track of who deserves what.

While I'm here here's a quick update! I was away last week to study C# with my pals so I haven't been able to do anything to do with MM8BDM. I am getting close to the end of my redundancy period at work so seeking employment is my top priority. If I can't find a job and this place starts eating into my savings I may have to shut cutstuff.net down for some time. Please don't use this as an excuse to panic/riot/donate though. The community is getting to a point where it can live on and evolve on it's own now, which is fantastic. I will try my best to keep this boat floating for you! Thanks for being a part of this community!

Do you think it would be possible for you to bring Star Member back? Not because I had it, but because it's a sign of who you can ask questions to and who you can expect replies from.

Cheers. Sorry I annoyed you so much with the PMs.

Don't worry. Cutty is made of the strongest materials available. Yet we didn't want to spend too much so we made him out of tin.

Anyways. I like the remaining medal choices. They are a good pick for official rewards.

Ah well. That Bass medal was rather snazzy, but I never even knew about it before the Powered Up expansion took off, so I've always considered it as a potential added bonus.

Although I have a nagging feeling that people will now start to brag about post counts now that medals aren't that easily achievable.

Pfft, we brag about postcounts anyway.

I meant more than previously.

Pshaw, there should be a rep system. Then no one will brag about their post count, they'll just brag about how high their reputation is. And those with low ones can feel sad. :V

You've never been to the steam forums, have you.

Rep = Reward on the steam forums.

It's crazy dude!

Anyway I've said this before, but I hate my postcount. People ask me stuff though, and it's rude not to reply  :|

Well, if you hate your postcount so much, then first, posts in Anything Goes should not count towards your post count, then ask the nearest mod to move that topic into Anything Goes.

I wouldn't mind the post count being removed altogether.

Seeing as I've been with cutstuff since it was small, I can say this:
Before MM8BDM, no one cared about post count, medals or any sort of reputation.

Oh. Then I must be thinking of a different kind of rep system. Everyone just ignore me, kthnxbye

I should be able to remove post counts, albeit in a hacky way, if everyone agrees to that.

I still say the only "medals" needed are contributor for the two games, maybe bug catcher (or whatever it was called), and Blood Donor, with the expansion and contributor medals being combined.  The rest is all fluff that leads to stupid competition.  Just like Post Count, it's a false barometer of that person's standings in the community.  Take the Knight Man medal for example.  Sure, it's awesome that they were able to beat you in a duel, but a huge part of that medal is being online and praying to God you're on at the same time.  At least with the ones I've mentioned, they've contributed to the games/site.

I would be more than happy if you turned post count off...I'm happy if just about anything as long as its not a Rep system those end with disaster

Yay! Now people will finally shut up!

And I'm glad to say I have never PMed Mike about a medal ever. I mean, a little symbol on the internet? So what?

You'll have to go win a weapon making contest to get a purple badge.

Well, this bites. I had Star Member (http://cutstuff.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=1079) and Attractive Member (http://mb.srb2.org/showthread.php?t=34574) lined up before I even joined this place. But yeah, if it really does cut down on e-penis around here I guess I can put up with it.

Well, there goes the only medal I've ever had!
Oh well. I hate plant man, anyway.

I like the remaining medal choices. They are much harder to get, and thus inspire me to contribute to MM8BDM even more. I really hope to help with the MM8 expansion when we get there!

Wow, of all the places...I'm disappoint, community, I'm just disappoint.

ONE THING, THOUGH:  Why keep Warrior and drop Champion?
Title: Re: Removed some badges
Post by: CutmanMike on March 01, 2011, 01:45:21 PM
Because I can easily keep track of the warrior badge, and the champion badge had people coming to me to sponsor tourneys IF they made them.

Quick, someone make a backup cutstuff forum in case this one shuts down!

I have a question and idk if here is the right spot or its been asked before, how will the expansions be finished and how can people who work on them keep in touch?

Food for thought

Not so quick! In that case we have to move ALL the information to other server.

I never really earned any badges, but why should I care about this? It might be a challenge to earn some badges.

I agree with Mr. X on this, many of the medals were simply superfluous.
Abandoning all of them with the exception of star member and blood donor would be a great idea.
Although, I never understood why some people considered them as grounds for bragging rights.
I can tell you this much: the only people that cared about an individual's medals was that individual.
In this fashion, they are exactly like achievements or trophies.
Title: Re: Removed some badges
Post by: Korby on March 08, 2011, 05:46:11 AM
Again, the medals were probably created with identification of what that person did in mind.

Also, of course they're like trophies, that's what a medal IS.

Oh dear.  I'm kinda in the same position as you, Mike.  Finding work is no fun.  Hope things work out (even though this is being said a bit late).
As for badges, I don't really care.  My name is in the game credits anyway.
