Title: MegaMon
Post by: LlamaHombre on March 15, 2011, 07:39:51 PM
This has been talked about for quite a while, and I've seen it both on skype and CutStuff.

A Pokemon game modded into Megaman.

I'd personally like to keep a MegaDex record of what we all think would be the best replacements for each Pokemon.

...So, discuss.

Of course, I was talking about this to Brotoad as well. Personally, I would like to see something along the lines of Powered Up Chibi Robot Master, evolve to regular Robot Master, evolve to bad ass Robot Master. Then have lesser mons being stage enemies and such.

Blah
Seems too Tohomon to me

Here's a suggestion on how it could be done.
Like, say Bass is Bulbasaur.

I imagine something like:

Bulbasaur = Bass 1-up
Ivysaur = Bass
Venusaur = Treble Boost Bass

That only applies to Mega Man and Bass though. Also Touhoumons biggest problem is that it imbalanced as hell. How will Megamon be any better?

I think it'd only do well if we could build a VERY elaborate element system so each Robot Master is weak to what they should be (EG, Plant-Man isn't weak to just Flame-Man, but ALSO Fire-Man, Heat-Man, etc.) some of these are easy to see--Fire/Water/Grass triad--but when you get into the finer working, it's a lot harder.  Where does someone like Clown-Man fall, what's a Ghost-Type RM?

...Hm

Sure, certain types may be odd.

Space Robots equal ghosts? I dunno.

I could imagine the "Kanto" starters being Wood Man, Heat Man, and Bubble Man...

If you want to go beyond sprite editing, you could do type editing. So long as it stays balanced and you can fit every robot master / enemy into 17 types.

I unfortunatly do not know how to rom hack, so I could not take charge of a "project" like this.

And besides, we'd have to decide which pokemon generation to mod.

I'm leaning towards Gen II, myself

Also, should the gym leaders be Robot Masters? It might depend on the game, but lets say we rom hacked Emerald. It might go like this for example:

Roxanne = Guts Man (They involve rocks. Yay)
Brawly = Ring Man? (He's made for combat so...)
Wattson = Elec/Spark/Dynamo/Sheep/Clown/Whatever (Too many electric RMs, we'd have to decide in this case)
Flannery = Fire/Heat/Magma/Solar/Whatever One I forgot (Same problem with Wattson)
Norman = Dr. Light (Norman is the dad so it might be him)
Winona = Tengu Man? (He involves flying..?)
Tate and Liz = Gemini Man/Men (Two at once~)
Juan = Aqua/Bubble/Pump/What Ever (No comment here :/)
However this is mainly speculation, as I doubt Emerald/Sapphire/Ruby will be the game, or if any game from Gen III will be used, for that matter.

If you want my recommendation, FR/LG are the easiest things to modify due to all the tools available for them.

Either hack Generation 1 for simplicity, or one of the GBA games for more stuff.

DS games would probably be rather difficult to hack.

actually I reccomend hacking one of the Dragon Warrior Monsters games, it would probably allow for more megamany gameplay, while still being somewhat like pokemon.

*cough* Zoids Legacy *cough*

Oh and Firemet evolves into Fireman evolves into Magma Man, while Flame man evolves into swordman. And either Copy or Doc Robot replaces Ditto.

I don't believe I would change the gym leaders, mainly because I have plans for a lot of the robot masters, and there aren't enough humans in the Megaman series.

Along the lines of evolution, I was thinking

Machop = Met
Machoke = Picketman
Machamp = Guts Man
And things like that.

How would you suppose Legendaries would go? Mega/Proto/Bass? IDK, maybe we shouldn't think of legendaries and such until we know what game we're hacking.

I'm thinking leafgreen, regarding Ivory's post.

Underrated compared to firered.

Is there a big difference between FireRed and LeafGreen? Or is it just personal taste?

Well with what I just said, some of the tools out there only work with Fire Red. Generally most tools are FR,Ruby and Emerald. The other games tend to be shafted.

You know I would like chibi, regular and bad-ass robot master evolutions. However, if the person in charge would like (for example) small frog-like enemy in Top Man's stage, frog Miniboss in Yamato Man's stage and Toad Man, I find that okay. But you're right, sounds too much like Touhoumon it seems. Though I would like to see a chibi Galaxy Man >w<

Brotoad was going to do this at some point over a GSC game.
If I recall, he was going to make it enemy into enemy into Robot Master/Fortress Boss.

Here's an early version of what I suggested the Rocket Grunt to be!

Time for pretty much all my ideas to be dumped!

Bear in mind I probably got all the enemy names wrong

I do enjoy your ideas, YD.

But...
Why does two frogs suddenly evolve into a scuba diver?

Oh right. Maybe Toad Man. Eheh.

Will the music be the same? Or will it be mainly remixed RM themes?
I'm trying not to bump since its benn about a few weeks since this has been updated. :/
