Just cleared this two days ago. Tiki Tong is surprisingly easy once you get the timing down(he only has two attacks that are consistently a bitch to avoid), and I only got three Game Overs(two of them were from screwing around with co-op; no mean feat since this game hands out Banana Coins like candy). What are your accomplishments?

Bitch, please. I've gotten no Game-Overs. :ugeek:
I found this game to be one of the hardest modern games in a very long time, except for maybe Mega Man 9. I was overjoyed to find a challenging game, but--as always--you get used to it. Now, I typically only lose lives when playing with a friend.
I have...six, I think?...orbs for accessing the Golden Temple. I've enjoyed every minute of it, too.
By the way, the concept art is BEAUTIFUL. Puzzle Piece grinding is totally worth it.

I played it up until the factory portion but then couldn't be damned to find out how to get to the boss, great game though.

The name annoys me because it's really nothing like the originals. The originals were more about solid platforming. Other than ropes and barrels, the levels really didn't move much. This one is all about "Oh, what a lovely level, it's so DEAR GOD EVERYTHING IS COLLAPSING JUMP NOW TOO LATE YOU'RE DEAD!" Plus, the art style, controls, severe lack of Diddy, Mine Cart stages every 3 feet, and various other stuff just made it feel completely different from the originals. This wouldn't be a bad thing if it weren't for the fact that the title flat out says Donkey Kong Country Returns implying it's the same old games again.

When I think of Donkey Kong Country, on top of what X said, there's also the lack of Animal Buddies outside of a few levels with Rambi. One of the biggest falls for me was the lack of Kremlings as the antagonists.
All together, it's as X Said. The game is fine. It's just not Donkey Kong Country.
-
Not really surprised about your sentiments. What do you expect from the company that completely upended Metroid? :geek:
Anyway, I always thought that the animal buddies were more cruft than anything else, and the Kremlings being the villans again would just seem old. This isn't Mega Man 9/10; this is supposed to be a ground-up new game, but still in the spirit of the originals.

It SHOULD feel old if it's called Donkey Kong Country RETURNS. That's my whole problem, the name implies a complete return of classic gameplay, but it isn't. It's not like New Super Mario Bros. Wii, which implies classic Super Mario Bros. action with new twists. It shouldn't even have had Country in the title.

Actually, while I know Mr X's thoughts on Metroid Prime, I absolutely loved metroid prime.
The difference between Metroid Prime and Donkey Kong Country Returns is that Metroid Prime wasn't selling itself as the return of classic metroid. It was sold as an first person adventure. Donkey Kong Country Returns was being sold as the return of Donkey Kong Country. However, it certainly did not feel like the Donkey Kong Country and knew and loved.
Now if the series was called New Adventures of Donkey Kong or something like that, I would have been perfectly fine with the DKCR. My Criticism for is mostly related to false advertisement.

I actually did start my post by saying how I hate Metroid Prime but realized it had nothing to do with anything in the topic really so I removed it before posting.
