Title: Obligatory Terraria Topic: 1.3 Release
Post by: Smunch on June 29, 2011, 05:16:26 AM
I know you have Terraria.  Admit it.  Now talk about it.

Speaking of Terraria, here's my new house.  Simplistic.
(click to show/hide)

Or is it?
(click to show/hide)

Definitely considering creating another.  Or more.  Only really have the colors of Pink, Red, Blue, Green, and Gray available though.

And with that, converse of your interesting Terraria based topics.  Like how Skeletron scared the hell out of you before the warning in update 1.05

Not a minecraft rip-off. So minecraft fanboys shut up.

Man, I play this game a lot. One of my characters has just about everything. I use Necro Armor most of the time, with Ninja armor in the display slots, and then I have all the speed and jump boosting items so my character's basically a ninja. I'm currently starting a new character who will end up looking just like Quote from Cave Story.

I would definitely use that server.  After returning from the next week and a half of technological depravation.  And I am very much liking the visual of a Quote-like person.

Gemshard;  its a very non-linear game in which you can create architectural stuff, explore violent caves/corrupted areas, pick up unique treasure and weapons fight some bosses, and do all sorts of other various things that causes you to forget about anything else important you may have to be doing.  I'm pretty sure that I butchered how to describe it, but oh well.

Also, I read somewhere that finding 'The Groom' and his top hat was bugged, but I just found him normally on a blood moon.  Anyone know how this is exprained?

Heavy time user of this 2-D architectual/adventurng gem of a game. Once I'm back from surrender ville and a third world country I'd be glad to do some server stuff. I made a liveable cutman house, but it was on a mutiplayer servr, hence lost forever.
The wiki say that the Groom is bugged an won't appear for 1.0.4, however with the release of 1.0.5 they are now very much available; the wiki just hasn't been updated yet.

Hamachi sucks. I will never use it. NEVER.
Title: Re: Obligatory Terraria Topic
Post by: Parad0x on July 20, 2011, 03:37:21 PM
Why does hamachi suck? It does a great job at maing a server for people who can't open a port or don't know how to also it is easy to install and use...
Title: Re: Obligatory Terraria Topic
Post by: Smunch on July 21, 2011, 01:04:57 AM
Hamachi or not, I'll play a cutstuff server, it sounds pretty cool to me.

Unrelated, I made 2 quizzes similar to the Name the Robot Masters Quiz.

First, Name the Terraria Weapons (http://www.sporcle.com/games/Smunch/terraria-weapons) don't forget consumables

And second, Name the Terraria Potions (http://www.sporcle.com/games/Smunch/terraria-potions).

Someone beat me to making the enemy quiz, but that's there too if you look.  Also, when's a good time to actually do this server thing?  I'll probably make time to show up.

TERRARIA.
HECK YES.
In case your wondering, Kumpel/EFG/Ihatecards/Earthboundfan guy, His friend by the name of senjan, Turbodude, and I have it.
It's a really awesome game, but it gets old after you get all the good stuff.

I don't know if any of you frequent the Terraria forums (I do as addicted2pistachios), after a few weeks I made some textures. If any of you use textures I made a bunch of Mega Man textures that can be obtained here: http://www.terrariaonline.com/threads/m ... not.40478/ (http://www.terrariaonline.com/threads/mega-man-textures-and-what-not.40478/)

I hope you guys enjoy, if you're confused as how to use said textures then here:
http://www.terrariaonline.com/threads/t ... cks.39026/ (http://www.terrariaonline.com/threads/terraria-texturepacks.39026/)

Cheers.

Yes, and I've been loving the game ever since.

Also: Nice sprite buildings, Smunch. I've been thinking about making one myself, but I fear that it would
be a waste of time. How long do you think it took to make yours?
Title: Re: Obligatory Terraria Topic

It only takes about 20 minutes to build (each), if you're anal about being pixel perfect.  HOWEVER gathering the required materials may be a chore.

I know a guy (The Rush) that can host without hamachi at a pretty good speed.  If there's ever any interest when we're on an MM8BDM server, we can host for you guys and just do stuff.

Also, our base is too big to fit into one picture.  Just know it involves both Pharaoh and Nitro man.  I may post it at some point.

Step 1. Make a very long platform in Hell.
Step 2. Spam a ton of spiky balls across it.
Step 3. Spawn wall of flesh
Step 4. Starfury

That's how I did it.

Use a harpoon if you have one. As long as you can get up right next to him, you can rapid-fire the harpoon into his eyes/mouth for a ton of damage. If you're aiming at the mouth it's also a great way to take out the leeches it spawns. Just get something to remove all of the Hungry at the beginning and you should have few troubles.

Then I found the chain knife.

Chances are I'l come across something that I ditch the chain knife for. Similar things like Flails or Harpoons.

The Merchant, as soon as I took the picture, opened my doors and made me have to slap multiple zombies. Again. It really doesn't help that I have to struggle to open doors and close them, because my RMB is bad.

So I accidentally triggered Skeletron. I used the mirror instantly so not much happened. I took a long walk back there and I accidentally hit the mirror on my hotbar when fighting a Vulture. I did another walk there, made it, but this time I ignored the old man and went to the Dungeon.

I'm sure you know what happened when I went deep enough.

Title: Re: Obligatory Terraria Topic
Post by: Ceridran on October 09, 2013, 03:10:08 PM
The Dungeon Guardians. I looked them up, and apparently they're OHKO, possible yet near impossible to kill, fly through walls, but only exist to murder you if you haven't killed Skeletron yet.

It legitimately scared me for a moment but I never really screamed.

Meanwhile, it takes me about 10 - 15 seconds to open a door. You already know why, I believe.

Post by: CarThief on October 22, 2013, 04:43:08 PM
Well those requirements for a simple RP server sound rediculous, as for using traps for base defence, i found that the game has them already by default, just employ orange spikey balls of doom everywhere. :P
Example: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/f ... =186638300 (http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=186638300) - Dont think i can make a direct image link out of that, but its what i built in another world. Even works well during solar eclipses.

Also, basically everyone and their dog has Terraria by now, but has anyone ever tried hosting a server for Cutstuff users? Would seem quite interesting to have just like the occasional minecraft Cutstuff servers. Though one would have to be extra careful or simply accept the risk of their items being vulnerable in servers, possibily losing them due to griefers or server shutdown. (Which is an exellent reason to always store your important crap in offline worlds, or if it needs to be quick, a Piggy Bank/Safe.)

Would seem like good fun and all to have one ultimately (or two, one for normal, one for hard mode). If the community is to be trusted with a server, in any case.

Sai usually has one up, but I haven't seen it up lately. Terraria can be mostly enjoyed without mods, but Minecraft is somewhat more dependant on them for enjoyment, at least in my opinion.

So, I just realized the Band of Starpower is a Corruption item. Time to create The Land Before Dogs as a counterpart to my crimson world, The Land Before Cats. Of course, it gets erased by me if it makes the world bloody instead of evil.

The server IP is best shared by private messages, or else guests know the IP immediately.

..

Necromancers are the most annoying things I've encountered.

If the community is to be trusted with a server, in any case.

...

Fun story.
I had one up ages ago for the 1.2 update.
We had tons of advancements.
Then TGOT and friends had to ruin it.
It was up for quite a while too. Too bad I never anticipated griefing to occur at all ever.
I don't think I'll be hosting another for a good long while.

[Also, I barely played, so I wasn't upset about the damage, but at the ghastly reactions from those who played a ton on the server.]

Hm, annoying but such are the risks, even moreso then in Minecraft i suppose... Hm, should be worth a look though if the server gets used enough times by the Cutstuff community though. Kinda gives me something to do anyway as i did most singleplayer stuff already anyway.
So i guess maybe you could throw me the ip if the server's anything i'm looking for?

Maybe also gives me an oppertunity to trade/sell some of the millions of good-but-useless-to-me items i found so far. :P

I took the server down a while ago. I would put it back up for you to take a look around, but I haven't got my VPN set up yet so I'm unable to.
[Currently at school killing time before an internship]

If you have time tomorrow, I guess I could put it back up for the day.

Hm, well i kind of meant the server the other guy was talking about, unless you're the one hosting it, though either way i'm just kind of looking if there's any actively used Cutstuff-related servers if anything really. Quite handy to kill time with though if there is any, as there isnt anything to do lately. :P

Very early-game Terraria (usually in single player) is really boring and grindy
all the early stuff has to be established and it takes while to get anywhere good without the good stuff

Very end-game Terraria also gets stale because you can become this powerhouse and then there's nothing left to do
and people who want to start a new character will be taken aback by the ghost that destroys them in two hits, among other things

so why not end everything with a bang
Sure, it was an unjustified attack on the Native S'kyper Cutopians and I wouldn't consider doing this on other servers
but when there's nothing to do with all this stuff
what else can you really do with all your cash
besides giving the world an explosive finale

Terraria is pretty enjoyable near the end of normal mode/middle of hard mode, but it's just not worth it after a while

Anyways, Terraria mods like Toparia can add some extra fun to the game (Toparia is this RPG-type mod where you can choose classes that specialize in weapon types, like melee, ranged, magic, and throwing), and things like Pickaxe+ can also add extra stuff to the game (important when 1.1 was around, since hardmode wasn't as big as a deal as 1.2's new stuff)
and I'm still waiting for some other mods to come out for 1.2 so I can maybe go back to Terraria

Starting a Hardcore server at 67.255.72.248:10666
Password is waynus
No alts upon death. Too hardcore for that.

Of course, we allowed early game revives and I died twice. I ended up playing as Lynne. Seriously.

Which means I'm even more likely going to die.

We pretty much decided to forego no alts because of a cosmic change in plans and boulders.

Agreed. Building takes time, and to demolish somebody else's things for "funzies," no reason, etc, is dumb.

Are you morphing this into an any-core, normal server? (Still having to start fresh, preferably.)

It'll still be hardcore, but it's just a matter of when people want it to be up/knowing when it's up.

I dont quite care for hardcore servers in general but i suppose you remember that from the Minecraft times as well. Having a normal server at some point would probably be interesting though.

Also, Terraria got a halloween update and with the use of pumpkins one can make a summon item for an invasion that puts Dungeons and Solar Eclipses combined to shame! It cant even be technically beaten, it just goes on until the night passes. Its quite fun to do with friends with endgame-level gear, though dieing is to be expected without proper setup/abuse of certain game mechanics, even in stuff like my shiney 95 defence tank set... :P

I may have missed that detail, but no, just no. I cant see myself being entertained by entering, dying, and losing all my grand stuff i collected if it works this way. Neither do i care for making a new character with the sole purpose of losing everything upon death. I guess it'll be a long wait for anything interesting to happen with this game's servers, atleast i can host my own at times fortunately...

Hm, besides that the game's too glitchy at times anyway for that, at one point joining a server got me killed from falling damage, but i had WINGS. God knows what kind of lethal event said server may host anyway (not to mention how in mid/hardcore you simply cannot do an Pumpkin Moon event).

New update soon!
Here's a sneak peak at some new content.

Quite a stylish and intricate way to move around the map, but not as convenient as teleporters.
May the mine cart madness begin!

Crap, aliens invaded my world minutes after defeating the Wall of Flesh in a pre-1.3 world. :T
The martian saucer is a funny boss to fight in an open area if there is a way to fly/jump high. I still had to fight it with cover because it was kicking my butt way too much.

And oh my gawd is it good.
The new bosses, the new weapons, the new items, armors, EVERYTHING IS GOOD. And expands the game perfectly.
