Title: Nu's Supply Closet
Post by: Nuy on July 01, 2011, 07:30:34 PM
I've recently been making map(s) and now shall make a topic showing off their awfulness.

Currently the first map is DONE. I just need someone to loop the music tracks. Theres also texture alligning and a bug with the water that need fixing.

I'll put a download link when the map is actually finished

I'm gaggin' from the lack of breathin' space in the map just by lookin' at the screens! Make sure ya add that. As for compatibility, don't add custom weapons. I'd add the standard weapons 1st before ya add the other glorious junk.

The screen shots are areas that are pretty much done, basically most of the cave system and part of the forest. Its a lot more wide open than it seems.
Also why no custom weapons? =< Its not like all of the maps will have 5 of them.

It seems you used a similar concepts of the trees at my map. I like it, you won a cookie!   (http://thegamingtech.com/images/smilies/emoticon_cookie1.gif)

The trees look like dinin' tables (if ya get what I mean). I suggest ya scatter the power ups. I have not tested the map yet, but this is from a 1st glance.

What did I tell ya about custom weapons? :

But I still dont understand what you mean by that, Savior D: And by power ups do you mean Health and Weapon energy or weapons? Health and Weapon energy has always been an issue for me because I dont know whats too much and whats evenly distibuted around the map!

Also the trees are a copy of the ones from your map, sorry =/ I tried to make my own but it failed.. hard.

Having custom weapons in your maps means you won't be able to play it with certain game modes like xpack, classes, etc.

Dinin' table as in the Scarlet Devil Mansion dinin' table. It's a very bad idea to have a place where there's a huge clump of power ups (yes, both weapon and health). A good spread out and evenly distributed map would be like MM3HAR or MM5GRA.

Yeah, I'm stuggling with that. Also, I couldn't care less about compatablity because the only one who'd ever host this would be me and I really wouldn't host it along side that stuff.

Ofcourse I could send you the map and you could help me with this >.>

The second-to-last screen is the one that is kind of fishy; the wall/floor designs here are odd(shark fin?) and I'm not really sure it would fit that well. I'd have to see the map to really comment though.

I'm going to go with Savior on the "dining table" comments - if the amount of small energy pellets gives more energy than a large one, it sort of defeats the purpose. Generally you don't see more than 4 of any energy in one spot.

As for Custom Weapons - again, I'd have to see the map, but my general impression is that most of them are not as good or polished as the official ones. Weapon balance is difficult (and I'm not going to do it) but when you have a bunch of weapons that you struggle to kill with they just end up becoming an unused or stale gimmick. I'd advise against the majority of them as well. Sorry to the weapon-makers, WCOLORS /SBARINFO is just too much of a nightmare regardless.

It is just me, or does this stage contain all of the weapons we deem Higher Tiered? [Drill, PS, C Eye.]

Also, I've tested your map. The layout isn't horrible, but it needs more work.
Possibly if you do remove the aforementioned Dinin' table, and maybe a linedef makeover with a few more better themed inside/outside detailing. And if you have the time, detail the out-of-bounds area.

I also believe removing the all-blue sky with a skybox would do some good as well.  It's just not eye-pleasing.

I say not horrible, not super great.

@Richard's Looping Request: Ask TG74. Or do it yourself with Audacity.

Define higher teir, because Crystal Eye is NOT that good of a weapon. And how did you even get a hold of the map? Whatever, the version you had was an older version because it does indeed now have a skybox.

bah, I'm deciding to just completely redo this map. After taking a look at it, its VERY sloppy. Gotta love looking at your past work and realizing it was a piece of crap. Eh, I'll start the map tomorrow. Still need the looping though =|
