Well, I prefer video game themes, but there is some pretty nice music from the past. (I personally hate today's music, they are just too loud for me, or don't make sense.)

VGM doesn't count as a genre. That's like saying Pop is a genre, really, really vague.

Added new genres to the list means everyone needs to re-vote.

I personally prefer classic Rock, specifically bands such as:
Journey,
Boston,
Queen,
AC-DC,

I also like some Drum and Bass, primarily Pendulum.
As well as a small bit of Metal, in which I favor Alice in Chains.

BTW, I need youtube examples of each music genre on the first post.

I'll take: Happy Hardcore, Hardstyle and Gabber.
Tomorrow I'll get examples of "Reggae, RnB and Hiphop" from my bro.

I don't want really mainstream crap for the examples. It doesn't show that you know the genre.

Post suggestions please.

Here is DragonForce's fury of the storm, remember that this is power metal and metal has a lot of subgeneres:
That's a subgenre, I wanna stay clear of them. Just as if I put Terrorcore (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXIZyn9oe7o) in "Gabber" just because it's a subgenre.

Another point (irrelevant to the first point), no indie music for the examples pease. If I wanted indie music, I'd go on newgrounds (although indie can sometimes be better than the signed artist's.) :P!

Thank you for your suggestion though Trollman.

We need proper examples because of:

Quote from: "TERRORsphere"

That makes it kinda hard for examples, because with all of the sub genres it's hard to describe what's "pure" metal, rock, etc. Also I just want to point out you do got a few Electronic sub-genres in there :<
Quote from: "TERRORsphere"
Another point (irrelevant to the first point), no indie music for the examples pease.
Now you're just trying to make it hard for me hnggggg

Now for examples.
As a fan of rock, I wanted to give an example, but with the rule of "No Sub-genres" this became kinda tough, since I realized I don't listen to a lot of straight-up Rock.
So, I come with two examples.
Just by Radiohead (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aTto5j32B-0)
Tree of Knowledge by Wild Orchid Children (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rN55gbc5C1U)
Now, I know that Radiohead is known for making Alternative Rock, but I feel that THIS song kind of captures what I assume regular Rock would be.
Lots of distortion, crazy, fun, and nice riffs. Also cool guitar solos.
Radiohead COULD be considered mainstream since, while they aren't played tons on the radio and praised among most teenagers, they are still quite popular, so I also bring the Wild Orchid Children song.
They are also considered Alternative Rock, but again, I think they produce some great riffs and still write crazy fun songs. At least, they show that with this song.

Now, you might be thinking "REBOOT EVERYONE KNOWS WHAT ROCK IS THEY DON'T NEED AN EXAMPLE WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING", so I have forced myself to come with another sample for a different genre. That is, dubstep.

Now, I don't listen to dubstep, but I have heard and know about it enough to be able to give a viable example.
I present: Rutten by Skream! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VEmM6vVFrao)
I know that there are many other dubstep artists that are much more popular than Skream, so why share this one? Because from what I've heard, Skream! is described as "actual, real, dubstep", so don't worry if this dubstep seems very far from what you usually hear as dubstep. I looked up the definition for dubstep, and it's described as:
"a genre of electronic dance music. Its overall sound has been described as 'tightly coiled productions with overwhelming bass lines and reverberant drum patterns, clipped samples, and occasional vocals'." And I think this song does show that.
If I seem completely clueless about dubstep right now, I'll just delete this half of the post. I just wanted to be a bit more helpful with the knowledge I have.

Meh, don't care if it counts or not, but I just listen to whatever sounds good. I can't really listen to that heavy metal, and really hard rock isn't really my type either. I especially hate those songs that sound more like the person is just yelling and screaming at the top of their lungs rather than singing. If I want to listen to a song, I want to listen to something that has a tune/melody, or something catchy, not a whole bunch of ear killing noise.

Aaand I'm gonna stop right there before I start ranting.

I like pretty much anything energetic. With some exceptions on both sides of the line (i.e. I dislike some energetic songs and like some slow songs), but I suppose that's typical.

If I had to pick 3...

(Be aware that most of the music I listen to is remixes. I do listen to some other stuff, though.)

Drum 'n' Bass - There's just something about a good bassline that makes a decent song even better.

Dubstep - More bassline goodness. Whenever I hear that wobbling bass synth, I can't resist the urge to bob my head to the beat.

Rock - Nothing like a good ol' electric guitar to get the blood flowing.

Honorable Mentions (not on the list):
Jazz - HOW IS JAZZ NOT ON THIS LIST! COME ON!

Folk - "Folk-style" music has this wild, natural quality to it that's great for relaxing. (If your wondering what kind of music I'm talking about, have a spoiler at the end of the post.)

Big Band - Big band music kicks brass. That is all.

Disappointed I didn't see Electronic on there, as that'd definitely be my first pick. Going with Trance for the vote as it's the closest. (No Techno, either. Lame, as I figured that counts as more of a genre than the previous two)

Anyway, not to turn this into a "spam awesome music" post, but...

I'm also a fan of the classical, seeing how trained I was in classical music. However, I tend toward the modern, mostly preferring 20th century and beyond composers. Most of my knowledge of composers are ones before the modern era, but despite that, I still go crazy for "post-modern" pieces (perhaps better known as "experimental" really, even if I coined that myself). Here's one such nightmare I find dramatically interesting.

This also probably influenced my love of Symphonic Metal, which any of you classical music fans should check out if you've ever had a passing interest in Rock or Metal. Nightwish is probably the defining example of what I mean, although Within Temptation is one of my favorite artists. If you've never heard of it, basically it's: metal, with classical elements infused into the chords (generally a violin is present), and OPERATIC LYRICS. Not a very wide genre, I'll admit.

Electronic isn't a genre :/. It's a vague term to all Electronic Dance Music.

I didn't put Techno because I thought that Dance, House and Trance would be enouph.

Screamo is a sub genre of Hardcore

Chip tune is a sub genre of Electronic

Chiptune isn't a genre, it's an instrument selection.

None of them are noteworthy, either.

My personal favorite genre would be Freeform. The closest on the list is happy hardcore (which I also like) but freeform's got a unique sound.

Example:

I've tried some gabber myself, but the only gabber artist I've liked so far is kenta-v.ez.

I don't like chiptune that much, if anything, i like bitpop

house is still one of my favorite genres, even if i don't listen to it that much.

What about Blues, Jazz and Soul?
Also I think it's kind of racist that you list a million genres of Techno yet no subsections of Rock except Metal.

There's no jazz ;.;
I would've put jazz in place of metal in my choices, but metal is still pretty good.
