This was my favorite Game Boy Color game.  :p

It's true 8-bit, it just uses GBC channels, AKA Sawtooth. It's not what the NES uses, but that's alright.

I absolutely loved this game, and I still do. I want an English version of the second one as well.

They really should release another, and if it's in 8-bit, that would just be so amazing.

Awesome Game Boy game!
Here's my 2 main decks.

Water
26 Water Energy
2 Squirlte Lv.8
2 Wartortle Lv.22
2 Blastoise Lv.52
2 Seel Lv.12
2 Dewgong Lv.42
2 Magikarp Lv.8
2 Gyarados Lv.41
2 Lapras Lv.31
1 Articuno Lv. 35
2 Articuno Lv. 37
1 Professor Oak
3 Bill
2 Pokemon Trader
2 Energy Removal
1 Computer Search
1 Pluspower
1 Defender
1 Potion
2 Super Potion
1 Full Heal

Lightning
26 Lightning Energy
3 Magnetmite Lv.13
1 Magneton Lv.28
2 Magneton Lv.35
4 Voltorb Lv. 10
2 Electrode Lv.35
2 Electrode Lv.42
2 Electabuzz Lv. 35
1 Zapdos Lv. 40
1 Zapdos Lv. 64
2 Zapdos Lv. 68 (This card was my avatar durin' the fad)
3 Bill
2 Energy Removal
2 Computer Search
1 Pluspower
1 Defender
2 Potion
2 Super Potion
1 Full Heal

As ya can see, I like mono-colored decks, and both of the decks are pretty good! The Water deck does have trouble against Lightning decks, but the Lightning deck does not struggle as much as the Water when playin' against its weakness.

If there is some online version of this game, I'd like to duel someone from here!

There totally is... but it requires an emulator (awwww).

Google something called "TBG Dual" and download it. Apparently, it's the only GBC emulator that supports built-in online multiplayer. Anyway, download it, run it, configure your keys and whatnot, and load the Pokemon TCG rom (sold separately). After that, obtain the IP of your friend who you want to duel, use the built-in Multiplayer menu, et cetera, et cetera.

I would totally play someone if they offered. Seriously. My PK LeafShield deck would destroy you.

For everyone playing the TCG, I will be hosting a Skype session later tonight where I will explain how to duel others online! I will also be accepting challenges for a short period of time. Get your ROMs and save files ready!

Skype Name: smashbroplusb

EDIT: For those of you who can't install Skype due to user restrictions or whatnot, you can grab Skype Portable (http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/skype_portable) and run it off an external device, like a flash drive or USB hard drive. I'm using Skype Portable since my computer has problems with installing new stuff... and I gotta say, it works great! Just as reliable as the normal Skype, really.

EDIT EDIT: The seminar has been postponed until tomorrow. Sorry guys.
Title: It's today, guys

Have your ROMs and decks ready! For those of you who are interested, I will be holding the tutorial today. There, I'll show you how to play the Pokemon TCG game online, as well as accept duel challenges. I now have four decks so things should get quite interesting.

Also, I wanted to share this video because it was too funny to pass up.

THIS IS FUCKED UP.

EDIT: I'm thinking a good start time would be about 8:30PM EST (give or take half an hour). I'll let you know of the final time in a couple hours.
Title: Re: Pokemon TCG (LIVE SKYPE DUELS TODAY -- GET YOUR DECKS!!)
Post by: Hallan Parva on August 19, 2011, 12:20:14 AM
Okay, the tutorial will start at around 8:40. Remember to add me (smashbroplusb) in your Skype contacts!

Oh, before you do anything, make sure to download TGB Dual (http://www.emulator-zone.com/doc.php/gameboy/tgbdual.html) and configure the settings to your liking. This is the only Game Boy Color emulator with functioning Link Cable online support, so make sure you have it!

Well the Skype thing was a complete and utter failure... Still, I learned a few things, and I'm working to fix my network so it will actually succeed next time (if and when there is a next time).

But its a new version.

RELEVANT

... Sorry for the bump, but it's for a good cause. Seriously!

First, remember that project that's trying to translate the second game, "Here Comes Great Rocket!", that started a while back? Apparently they're still in full steam, and a new beta is even set to come out sometime soon. This was pulled straight from the team's forum:
Quote from: "Danke, the project leader,"
I have most of the battle-requirement dialogues inserted and working. I just need to finish up the Psychic fort and one member of the colorless altar, and then the game should be completely playable without the need of walkthroughs.

My goal after that is to complete the text of people looking for trades.

And then comes the rest of the story-based dialogue, like the majority of the first half of the game.

And after that comes the rest of the text that has no place in the storyline... Like random people in the club lobbies.

I'm hoping to get it completed within a year, especially if I get some help financially and translation-wise.
In case you're interested their website is right here (http://tcg2.midnightwaters.net/), so check by every week or so to see when the beta comes out.

Also, I'm doing something related to Pokemon TCG and I need good deck names (and themes) for Mark and Mint. Mark is the hero of the two games, and Mint is the female counterpart seen in TCG 2.

Thanks!

Don't know if I should make a new topic for this (probably not) but I'm now hosting a TCG Deck Building Contest!

Rules:
-After you signup for a session, I will give you 10 rare cards, 30 uncommon cards, and 70 common cards. That does include trainers and Special Energies. All randomly generated of course.
-Your deck must contain 60 cards. You may use the cards I give you and any amount of BASIC energy cards you need.
-No deck may contain more than 4 of any card with the same name except for Basic Energies. When determining this, flavor text (such as Lv. 8), Delta Species, LV. X, ex, and the shooting star thing do not count as changes to the card's name.
-Your deck MUST contain AT LEAST one Basic Pokemon.
-You may make one deck per session.

This first session will be Base-Jungle-Fossil-Team Rocket-Gym Challenge/Heroes! Signup by posting, PMing me, or via Skype!

Winner may get something. Haven't decided yet.

Post by: HD_ on April 28, 2012, 11:09:18 PM
Aah I didn't mention that, I knew I forgot something.

Winner is decided by having all decks play each other. Simple as that. (I asked Sav if he wanted to help test, still waiting on an answer, if not, I always have Redshark.)

hey now i get to post in this thread even though it's a doublepostbumb but whatever

I got this game today, along with Mario Party Advance and Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga, at Play & Trade. After putting in a good hour of dueling, I will say this- SOUNDTRACK IS AMAZING

Onto more fundamental stuff- Neat game! Really easy controls to follow. I like the expansion packs you can get, too. I have a whole tub full of old Pokemon Cards, but I never did any battling. Guess this'll give me some good experience!

EDIT2: Oh I'm an idiot it runs on Global Link so of course my name's already taken

HAHA THIS TOPIC HAS BEEN REVIVED FOR MY NEFARIOUS PURPOSES!

This sexy new page (http://pokebeach.com/#bw6-freeze-bolt-and-cold-flare) has scans and translations of the newest unreleased Japanese cards. One of the most unfortunate of these is Computer Search.

Yes, remember that thing that let you discard 2 cards to search out 1 that was hilariously OP? Yeah, it's been errata'd so that it is part of a group of cards called "Ace Specs". You can have only one Ace Spec card in your deck. Period.

RIP Computer Search, 1999-2012

You will be missed.

In other news Bicycle (draw until you have 4 in your hand) is OP since Bianca does 6 and is once per turn (Supporter) and you can pretty much endless draw with the right resources
Title: What is this world coming to
Post by: Magnet Dood on July 13, 2012, 01:40:02 AM
What the hell? Computer Search is OP?

You have to discard two cards in order to get one. Even if it's a legendary card, you'll have to take at least 3, or 4, turns to get the damn thing in commission in time to battle- most legendaries have attacks that cost 4 energy cards. The only thing I can see them being OP for is getting an evolution card- BUT WAIT! This entire game is dominated by Basic Pokemon, so that's useless too! That really only leaves it being effective in getting some item card or Basic Pokemon you want.

Jeez, this is as bad as Smogon's tier lists. Why are they making things so complicated and blown out of proportion?! It's becoming more and more like the regular games.
Title: Re: Pokemon TCG (sorry, I used a Max Revive)
Post by: HD_ on July 13, 2012, 01:47:00 AM
You can Computer Search for Professor Oak for a whole new hand, get that Pokemon you need, get a Special Energy, etc. etc.

Now talking today's format, we have another way to get out Trainers; Skyla. She's a Supporter, gets any form of Trainer (Item, Supporter, or Stadium) out of your deck for no cost.

Now imagine if it WASN'T an Ace Spec.

Also note Sableye has an attack that allows you to pick up 2 Items from the discard pile.

Oh yeah, did I mention that most decks get depleted so quickly it makes you wonder when the fuck you used all those cardas?

Yeah...

Computer Search WAS broken, trust me. The errata might have crippled it too much though.

I apparently learn'd necromancy from a cereal box.
ANYWHO, I've been recently hook'd on the second Gameboy TCG game. The only real issue that I have with the game is the grindin's a bit much. Minus the 2 cards found via Card Pop only, even a 100% collect is still very gruesome.
Title: Re: Pokemon TCG GB Thread (Mint is absolutely gorgeous)

I haven't played my original copy since the save battery got corrupted, though I did recently get it fixed. Might consider picking it up.

As for the 2nd, you have not lived until you have used Sad Onix in battle.
Title: Re: Pokemon TCG GB Thread (Mint is absolutely gorgeous)
Post by: SaviorSword on March 31, 2015, 01:24:04 AM
Sad Onix? Onix lv. 25?

Well, somethin' incredible happen'd to me. With my heavily damage'd  Exeggutor lv. 35, I had 14 energy units attach'd on it and both me and my opponent (Grass Club Leader Nikki I think) had only 1 prize left each. All I need'd was 2 heads to win, but if I somehow didn't kill her active card I would die. No prize for guessin' what came next.
(click to show/hide)

Also I don't know heads or tails (no pun intend'd) of how the net play works.
Title: Re: Pokemon TCG GB Thread (Mint is absolutely gorgeous)
Post by: SaviorSword on April 19, 2015, 05:54:53 AM
Forgive me for the double post.

Now that I've play'd thoroughly through the whole second game, I can say that I thoroughly enjoy'd the game and I would recommend this to anyone else. The only complaint again is the long grind to get cards for some of the stupid duelists that require ya to tear apart yar deck just so they would even acknowledge yar existence. On the flip side though, the forces ya to trend into how other cards work other than one deck ya find and stick with to the end. The additional rules usually don't mean a whole lot, but there are a few additional rule that changes that gives a nice twist on yar thinkin' when ya play the game. Now if yar someone whole knows yar cards in and out, ya can breeze through the game without much trouble. Even the final boss isn't too bad. The Seal'd Fortress, on the other hand, WILL give ya a run for yar money.

As for netplay, from what I've heard there are 2 methods of doin' so. The first way is usin' Hamachi to play over the net, but I've heard that it can get very laggy and generally become unplayable after some time. The second way is actually playable, but there are still a few issues that comes up though. The second method is basically playin' with yarself. With Skype's screen share function, ya and yar opponent can both see the game, but yar opponent can't put any input except by blurtin' out commands Twitch Plays Pokemon style through Skype. The other issue is that Lord Helix blesses both players with his almighty Clairvoyance Pokemon Power because the game's only set up on one player's computer and the other is watchin' the same screen. The only way to get around this issue is an honor system where one player covers up their computer monitor that has their opponent's game window and the other does the same.

The additional cards from the Vendin' and Team Rocket sets gives the game a whole lot more depth on what could be play'd. There are still some dominatin' playstyles, but so much more can be done that's worth usin' even though if they are a bit offbeat. I'm still a mono-color player, but the Rainbow Energy allows multi-color decks to be a lot more manageable. After all my adventures and stuff, I've develop'd 4 decks that I play often with. I'd love to play with another human with these said decks.
