Bridging to a larger topic, what are some of y'all's favorite 8-bit composers and coverers?

For coverers, I have a few favorites:

ZeroJanitor - x5/x6
psn8bit - EXE
coatlesscarl - rpgs (Golden Sun, Zelda, etc.)

As for artists, I like the original pieces of danooct, baiisilisk, and especially rushjet1. (some of rushjet's vids I find on CrashManEXE's page under a playlist of lots of great NSF and other chiptunes.

Anyway, a question I've been meaning to ask 8-bit folks out there. Listen to this and ask: "How 8-bit does this feel?"

Very funny.

EDIT: A very funny composer.

You know who my favorite composer is? No one.

You know who my favorite coverer is? Me.

You know what? No. I refuse to speak more about this.

Ragequit.Actually, I don't really have much of a positive and objective opinion about this whole MM "original compo" music fad. Hertz used to be better and now he's just midly decent, and that is just my own subjective opinion. The populum likes ubersaturated, half-assed songs with no real substance just for the sake of being original? k. Then the populum doesn't know jack shit about MM songs. inb4cad. Kev is overrated? Pfft, original compositions are overrated.

The question 'how 8-bit is this' is a little vague. It could sound like something from Super Mario Bros, which uses different instruments to Mega Man but definitely counts as 8-bit. But yes, on a Mega Man instrument standard, it does sound '8-bit enough'.

Also, favourite 8-bit composers? TIME TO ADVERTISE.

This guy is like super totally baus. Go to his channel and listen to each and every one of his compositions. Mainly Snowbank and Spanish Pirate Robot Frenzy (which came 2nd place in some Famitracker competition, probably under the category of complete awesomeness).

...Okay, shameless advertising over.

This vague talking. Baseless, I tell you.

You need to ask someone who knows his shit.

Totally not me.

Song? Ok, can be better. Sounds like something out of megacocorock a year ago.

I mean, what is stopping you from using a vastly superior GXSCC conversion of that MIDI you got from VGMusic? :ugeek:

I suppose the "how 8-bit is it" could be rephrased as: "How well does this tune meet your standard of 8-bit?" To me, it sounds more like chiptune music than it does "ideal" 8-bit. Here's another example of the dilemma.

Same song. The first is GXSCC, the second two are 8-bit. But which is one most 8-bit? (If you don't follow, which one reminds you most of NES or Mega Man Music?) Of course, all of them are better than the previous example, which was... bad.

Also, that guy is indeed boss. Oppression in 8-bit? This is valuable, good sir. This is the best thing I have found since THE STRONGEST REMIX IN THE GALAXY!! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0Uq67Z2DnM)

Actually, I find the second one to be more Mega Man-esque. Aside from all the bending at the beginning of each note, that is. More fast-paced due to the percussion too, which helps.

To me, the third one...The melody doesn't stick as much as it should for it to be Mega Man-eque. Might be using a different instrument as to what's normally used. Percussion doesn't fit the style either.
