"Robot Man" really doesn't sounds like it's from Megaman, and around 0:36, it kinda starts hurting my ears.

Just so you all know, the second we saw that boss battle theme,  the Mega Man Water cast kept an eye out for you, Epic Kirby.

Very nice compositions.

You're right. It doesn't sound that "Megaman-y" (That should be a word)  And personally 0:36 sounded somewhat decent to me, but I can't say how it sounds for other people.

Umm, this is kinda of a Necro Bump. Cause the last post was kinda in September.
But I have an update. So I hope that means I'm not messing something up by bumping this...
Also it's a double post.

I actually like this quite a bit, though there's probably stuff to work on. I wouldn't know, I'm not a composer.

Listened to 20 seconds of each, because I couldn't stand it beyond that.

Nice job for a first-timer, though. You nailed the MM2 hack instrumental style, you just need to learn how to make instruments more MM-ish. Keep 'em coming.

Let's bump my own topic!

Ok, while this isn't an original. I feel like sharing this cover I've been working on the past 2 days.
(click to show/hide)
I personally think I've improved.

You've definitely improved.  However, I feel like some parts were surprisingly lacking even though you were using expansion chips.  Those parts would have sounded fine had I not known you had more instruments at your disposal.

At a few points I had some squares left empty because
A: There wasn't really anything to fill them in that would work with Square, there was another noise channel, but I had to choose between them.
B: I'm really picky for what goes into channels. Thatguy made me add more chords at the start
C: I generally dislike a lot of whole notes...Because the picky thing above.

But thanks!

I liked the boss theme, except I felt the instruments were kinda bland. I hated the second song. I like the 3rd one except again I felt the instruments were bland. The Dialga one was much better than your older songs. Hopefully this isn't a bump or a necro bump or anything, 'cause I just thought I'd rate it

1st Song: 6.7/10
2nd Song: 1.9/10
3rd Song: 6.6/10

4th Song: 7.7/10

Keep up the good work!

So this post is old and crap but responding to stuff is a generally good thing to do.

Bland instruments is a thing when I never used Famitracker before and I cared about the melody itself. As you can see by the time Primal Dialga rolled around I learned how to make actual good instruments.

Also like forever ago Ken was really cool and made the boss theme sound better by adding more instruments, then I took his awesome instruments and added more stuff so it sounded even better. But I was too lazy to upload it on to Youtube.

Lastly, on Primal Dialga you say it's good and give it a 7. Obviously there has to be some room for improvement if it's a 7 rather then a 9. So there's gotta be some criticism for it.

I decided rerate the song an 8/10, I guess I was just being biased before because it sounds like a song I've heard before in LoZ or something

Well it's an actual song. It's just a cover (as stated in the post where I first mentioned it)

So this guy at my school is making a space shooter so he can test how to use a program for future things.
And he was all like "Make me some music" and I was like "K"

So I have an edited first post.

it's really nice EK, I'm loving your work

maybe when you're done you could make songs for ME???????

I have famitracker, but I dont know much how to use it.

I kinda know, since I've seen a bit of a tutorial.

Ahh an update.

So I'm not super happy about this, but there's some parts I enjoy.

Oh and it's a tunnel theme as the title suggests.
And I have a week to make the third/boss theme (Which will be one song for cool)
Title: Re: Epic Kirby's Famitracker Originals
Post by: Fyone on May 23, 2012, 02:32:43 AM
The new one doesn't have a solid melody. It's not very catchy either.
Title: Re: Epic Kirby's Famitracker Originals
Post by: Dr. Freeman on May 23, 2012, 02:51:54 AM
And here is where I object.
I don't want to sound like a stuck up asshole by defending my own song and stuff, but there is a melody going on. In fact, there's 2 going on through out the song.

There's that thing that starts around 5 seconds in, and while at first it plays backround to the melody that kicks in shortly after (Which I'll get back to) once there's that transition that becomes the main thing, except at different notes. While at the start it stated at a C, went to B Flat, C again, and C Sharp. Once the transition happens it is G, F Sharp, G, and A Flat. But it's still the same thing. That repeats at a faster interval for a while, then at 45 seconds in, the melody that kicks in there is the same exact one from around 15 seconds in except at a higher interval. From then it loops and stuff.

As for the catchy thing, while it's a matter of opinion, more people have been saying otherwise.

But then again, this is all that really matters.

"This is fucking tight:D"- The person who I'm making the song for in the first place.
And if the person who I'm doing this for likes it, that's all that really matters.
Also you consider Lad's music to be pro. So it's hard to take critique from you seriously.
Title: Re: Epic Kirby's Famitracker Originals
Post by: Mr. X on May 23, 2012, 03:17:47 AM
I disagree with Fyone's "there's no melody" comment but fully agree on the lack of catchiness.  By the time the song was over, I had completely forgotten everything I had listened to.  It's like Sylvania Castle Zone Act 1 from Sonic 4 Episode II:  You can put that song on for five minutes straight and if you turn it off and ask me to hum it, I couldn't do it for the life of me.
Title: Re: Epic Kirby's Famitracker Originals
Post by: Fyone on May 23, 2012, 11:49:07 AM
I technically didn't say there was no melody, I said that there was no solid one. I don't really think you should have two melodies in one song, because it's not solid but it's just my opinion.
Title: Re: Epic Kirby's Famitracker Originals
Post by: Korby on May 23, 2012, 05:49:42 PM
Almost every megaman song ever has "two melodies" the way this song does.
Heck, Sheep Man breaks into Milk Bar in the middle of it!

Before anyone yells at me over the ending, it's leading in to the only boss in the game.

I'm not really happy with this last boss song. But that due date just came out of nowhere, so I had to make this asap.

At the very least, it doesn't make your ears catch on fire.

...I hope.

The new song starts hurting my ears 'round 20 secs then stops at 30 secs. The new song also sounds really random.

Because one of the songs in FMP is totally not ripped off from Rockman 4MI. And another from Power Fighters.

Actually, basically every song I made was inspired by another song. Some...more obvious than others. (I'm surprised more people didn't notice VVVVVV in the first level theme, it's obviously there.)

And I don't really think that if songs remind you of other songs that instantly means they're bad. (Unless of course you weren't saying it as a bad thing. Sorta hard to tell with the "however")

I really like that MM7 Wily 3 cover! The part beginning around :27 (until :34) doesn't quite have as much of a "punch" as the rest of the song, and the intro to that melody (around :26 to :29) felt somewhat hollow... but I love the rest of the song, the intro in particular is fantastic. I could see this being used somewhere.

Keep up the good work!

This lead instrument is too good for anything ever.
But yeah the loop is kinda awkward - your note kinda resets itself through the transition.

King of Dragons is a game I used to play a lot as a kid because my dad had a bunch of arcade games emulated on his computer, and it just so happens when I was on a MIDI hunt I found a midi for one of the songs so I got bored and covered it in three hours.
