Title: CUTSTUFF, Y U NO STAR FOX DISCUSSION
Post by: Magnet Dood on December 03, 2011, 07:40:38 PM
I really can't believe there aren't any Star Fox discussion topics. I find it a pretty awesome series. So, talk away.

Star Fox 64 is great, but I always have trouble on that really stupid clam...

The only Starfox game I have/played is Command. It's more like a Real Time Strategy game than what the others look like.

I want to get Starfox 64. I played the demo on SSBB and really liked it. I don't know what's stopping me :/

There's always emulators, Michael.

I only emulate games within good reason, such as already owning the game or the game creators being really really mean and stuff. (Like not releasing anniversary collection in the UK -_-)

Hahahano. The N64 and all of it's games are not in production anymore, so you're not "stealing" any money, you're just being smart by saving your own.

Tier list because opinions make people raeg:

64 > Assault > SNES > Command Mission >>>>>>> Adventures

I would love to see a sequel to the series with new environments but strictly rail-shooting/all-range mode levels, but I know it'll never happen.

I personally liked Star Fox 2 the best. I just wish Miyu would come up in a new game.

The original has the proest soundtrack ever! Space Armada was THE song that made me like video game music, I swear
But it's so underrated that it's not funny

Here's my proof:

Glad you put in all that good music from the SNES StahFawx, but I've still got a track from that game that's held more dear to me than the rest of those, especially since the boss you fought to the music was kinda cool. There was even a professor in that machine you fought, maybe.

I also happened to play Star Fox Assault a lot with my friends years ago. One time my friend and I played a sniper battle on the Corneria map, but to prevent screenlooking, we taped a big piece of cardboard on our split screen line. Battles were a lot more fun thanks to it.

Star Fox Assault was really short and kinda wonky compared to 64, especially since they seemed to focus a lot more on the on-foot shooting rather than the Arwings and Landmasters, but it had some of the coolest stuff of the series. The Landmaster had become a structural/aesthetic mess of a wrecking machine (Which was amazing), and the strategically idiotic wing riding segments gave us the plasma cannon, Fox's Deus Ex unlimited ammo gun.

Assault did have the dumbest Star Wolf battle ever though, in stage 3.

In my opinion, Star Fox SNES had the best soundtrack, but the most memorable game to me in whole would probably be 64.
I've played it so much, with equal enjoyment each time. There's something about it that makes it so fun, that I just can't place my finger on.

My favorite boss has to be the Engineer from Macbeth (the train level). He was hilarious. I love his really distinct southern accent, and how he's somewhat cocky. And, of course, it's gut-bustingly funny to here him scream "No! Hit the brakes!" Here are some of my favorite quotes from him:

"Dang! Detach the rear vehicle."

"What's wrong? Come a little closer!"

"I didn't expect to have to use this!"

"You're very lucky!"

"Step on the gas!"

obligatorydoabarrelroll I only own 64 and assault. I don't know why assault gets so much hate. It's not that bad.

I like Star Fox 64 (3D) the best and Assault 2nd best.  The game gets a lot of crap for having lots of ground missions but since I thought they were still quite fun it isn't an issue to me.  The bigger issue would be too few corridor levels but again, that doesn't damage it too much IMO.

Command is fun but repetitive.  Adventures I've never played.  We own it and the first time through, my brothers really enjoyed it.  When they replayed it, they said it had aged horrendously so I don't know.  I honestly don't care for the original game.

I should've mentioned that song too, one of my favorites in fact
But if I did I'd have the entire OST in that one little spoiler >_____>

Assault had the best music for me. It may have had a shitty Wolf battle, but they have the classiest Wolf theme out there.

What?  No one's said anything like "omglolfurries" yet?  I am disappoint.

You know, I'm really sad Nintendo retconned the original Star Fox out of the timeline and more-so never did anything good with Star Fox 2.  The real Star Fox 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pda2jBcUBWg). (Though one could argue that there are some similarities between Star Fox 2 and Star Fox 64, vague as they might be.  Miyu may have evolved into Katt, Star Wolf exists here as well, and so-forth and so on...)  I think the original Star Fox is considerably underrated.  It's a fun game that pushed the Super NES hardware somewhat hard (for the time) and took true 3D gaming a step in the right direction.  Now it was by no means the 3D game of forever, but it was most certainly the best 3D game on the Super NES!  Great soundtrack, awesome gameplay, a pretty decent storyline...  Good times as a kid, needless to say.
Title: Command > Assault. Foot missions? How dare you!

Really, Joseph? I had noticed more similarities with Star Fox 2 and Command, actually - I believe it was Command's gameplay in general that was lifted from SF2. It's been a while since i've played 2, though.

Well, it's rather unfair to compare Adventures to any of the other star fox games. It's a dolled up Zelda clone, and a weak one at that. It has some... rather amusing moments.

"Get out of here, cheapskate!"

I love how cheap a good condition copy of Star Fox is.
When I get 12 bucks I'm gonna get myself one, because oddly enough I've never played it on a real SNES.
