Title: Playable demo at Screwattack SGC! - Footage up!
Post by: CutmanMike on May 04, 2010, 03:31:54 PM
http://cutstuff.net/blog/?p=2140 (http://cutstuff.net/blog/?p=2140) - Announcement

Me and a few others are planning to present a playable demo at Screw attack's gaming event in Texas this July, to finally give people a chance to play it. The demo version will include 4-5 maps, a handful of stable weapons to try out and a few skins.

Now I'm doubtful we'll get a spot for free, so most likely it will be played on the LAN or something. I won't actually be there myself either, so I will have to leave it in the capable hands of MugenMidget and PressStart.

... Well, that's the plan. If it does end up on the LAN that means MM8BDM will probably be leaked around and I'll have no choice but to release it as a demo version or something (by July I hope to it almost complete though).

Really like the idea of it being a CUT down demo, so even if/when there is a potential leak, it's still justa demo.

People seem pretty excited so far on that thread; just gonna have to see how things pan out in the coming weeks. Nice AVATAR cutman!

Curses!  I don't live anywhere near Texas...

Well, I hope the best for the event!  If anything, this will get some more publicity for this awesome project!

yea a really small demo is the only way to go sadly

but at least get some variety of stages one of each. 1 LARGE / 1 MEDium / 1 small stage. as for chosen character skins, i would just say make protoman/megaman/bass/roll selectable. i mean we worked hard on those robot masters dagnabbit :ugeek:

So close but so far! Ill never be able to go out there.
Isn't AVGN, Spoony, and Brentalfloss supposed to be there to?

Cool, I'd like to meet Brentalfloss.  Couldn't care less about the perpetually overrated AVGN though.  And I don't know spoony.

Yeah I won't include any playable RM's just yet. There's so many, I wouldn't be able to choose which ones to take along anyway!

Maybe just have Megaman as the playable character then the MM1 bosses as bots? maybe MM2 also

Hmm well it's been weeks I haven't gotten an email back from Corey so I highly doubt I'll get my own spot at the SGC (maybe because there's no money involved). Either way, we (by we I mean PressStart and MugenMidget) will try our best to get it on the LAN and coax people into playing it  ;)

I've got one concern:  In the video there don't seem to be any Robot Masters.  I'm afraid people will get the wrong idea and think its a deathmatch between Mega, Proto, Bass, and Roll and no Robot Masters.
Title: Re: Playable demo at Screwattack SGC!
Post by: PressStart on June 03, 2010, 06:40:13 AM
The actual demo only has those 4 playable. However, at the end of the demo, there's a transition screen showing almost all of the Robot Masters, including screens with them in action.

I wonder how many, if any, will play with Roll...

Everyone is going to play as Roll.  There are plenty of people out there who would love to see Roll blast Bass.

The SGC pre-registrations end soon. I doubt I got anyone to register just to play MM8BDM but oh well.

So what happens after SGC? Well no doubt the demo will get leaked, which I don't have a problem with. ;)

SWEET! No longer is MM8BDM a sneaky LAN party invader. It's official!

Quote from: "Corey"
Mega Man 8-Bit Death Match is an officially scheduled event! Check it out in the PC Lan Room (that's Dogwood) at these times:

July 2nd - 4PM
July 3rd - 7PM
July 4th - 1PM

So that means MM8BDM SGC demo will be downloadable as a new Iwad or what? :?
Title: Re: Playable demo at Screwattack SGC!
Post by: CutmanMike on June 21, 2010, 12:21:02 PM
No it just means that instead of us sneaking it in the LAN room hoping people will play it, it's actually officially there on the schedule so more people will know about it and where to give it a go.  :)

Here's the battle log from SGC!

Quote
When the officially scheduled time for MM8BDM came around, people started comin in like crazy, wanting a copy of the game, the game set up, and everything. The LAN wasn't even up at first, they had to call in Craig who did not know he had to pay for it (didn't have to last year apparently).

After it got setup, people had to figure out to get a wired hookup, use SGC's password, start the game, setup controls and options, and join the game. Some people had no idea how to do any of this, and I couldn't figure out any of the LAN stuff. Mugen was going left and right setting people up with the demo, until we had 6-7 people all playing in the same room. There'd probably have been more, but a lot of people did not bring a laptop, and Mugen let em try it on his laptop.

We got quite a few short videos of people playing. I asked and recorded 3 peoples' opinions afterwards, but I'm afraid cuz of all the talking it might be too hard to hear them...hope that is not the case. They were all really positive though, one guy being a big doom fan, another one a big megaman fan (he had a megaman tattoo!!), and another just some dude!

There was also a guy interviewing people with a more professional camera, I dunno who but I hope his videos are easy to find afterward. He even got interview footage of a guy talking to me about how impressive it looked in person, in comparison to how dizzy it would seem from the youtube vids and screenshots.

This is a LONG POST but I gotta say it was pretty cool. I hope it goes just as well tomorrow, so I get more of a chance to play!

I had a feeling the dizziness people were having was from the videos and not the actual game.

Hohoho...

Anyway, the game is REALLY fun, more fun with other people in fact.
I HAVE noticed a "slight" camping issue at the teleporter in the demo wily level.
I'm gonna post what I think of the weapons now.

Rolling Cutter: Absolutely devastating if you can use it right(like me   )
Atomic Fire: Really good, can easily kill people in one hit. Shoot down long corridors. Charge time is a bit long.
Hard Knuckle: Can kill in two hits. Shoot down long and narrow corridors, or up close
Search Snake: Amazing if you're on a cliff and can strafe(for example, the demo wily level)
Napalm Bomb: See above. Also, good in close quarters combat, or when running away
Ice Slasher: I just found this as a faster and more powerful buster. Good to use, I guess.
Needle Cannon: A much better alternative to Ice Slasher. It slows down opponents AND is highly rapid fire.
Metal Blade: Strong,  fast, good fire rate. Just like in MM2
Rain Flush: Covers a huge area with its attack, which makes it useful for picking off people with low health.
Gemini Laser: Pretty good damage and it bounces off walls. Use in narrow corridors for an impassable wall of lasers!
Magnet Missile: A strong and homing weapon that chews up a lot of ammo. Fire rate isn't too good.
Quick Boomerang: Get up close and you can kill anyone. ANYONE. This rapid fire beast will completely decimate anything that comes in your path.
Dust Crush(er?): Haven't use this much, but it's pretty good. When it hits something, it splits into more pieces.
Air Shooter: An insanely good shotgun. Get up close!
Thunder Beam: Shoots beams to your left, right, and forwards. Very useful for picking off groups of enemies.
Ring Boomerang: I haven't used this at all. No idea what it does, but it seems to be an inferior cousin to Rolling Cutter.

My FAVORITE weapons would have to be Napalm's, Snake's, and Quick's.

Ring Boomerang is pretty much a faster rolling cutter that returns to you faster and does less damage. You can also avoid picking it back up to an extend, and have rings following you and bouncing around everywhere

My Opinions

1.Weapons
The Few weapons are already Etched into my mind but i still believe you should Add a few weapons from MM5 & MM6 (Ones that are done)
I would personally like to see Some more Weapons from the available games in the demos to follow

2.Stages
Definatley this was too short for a demo, and i believe most of use would say so about the demo,i would've liked to play on Hard Man over Needle Man
or Wood Man over Metal Man,,but overall i would've liked to play some of the stages that are from MM1,overall i like the new Guts Man level but i would've liked to play that stage instead of oh so simple Cut Man

3.Overall
The Demo has only touched my limit of Expectation, but overall this demo by far is excellent (with a few problems i've discovered, the connection interrupts at times)

So in General this demo gets 5 Mega Busters outta 5

Don't include the port stuff. Just put in the box: namerehwon.no-ip.info

There are no more demos. The next version is the final version.

Keep in mind this demo was created for SGC, where there's a lot of other stuff going on. I purposely made it short so people could sit down for a short period of time and still see everything.
