Title: Frozen Synapse
Post by: CarThief on April 05, 2012, 08:41:44 PM
The Steam Store has some information, screenshots, and even two videos.
Its a strategy game employing turn-based mechanics but mixing it up by having both turns execute simultaneously.

So yeah... Anyone else played this game, i wonder?
Also, damn, this game is relentless, took me like 3 tries to beat the 3rd mission due to the escort dieing all the time, and the supposed escort's 'bodyguards' not firing their machineguns even if it meant they saved the world, instantly! Though they're not trying to soak up bullets either...

Makes me wonder how hard the non-escort missions are gonna get. Also, DAMN, the game's on sale today and i bought it merely hours before it became cheaper. God damn poor luck on that one, could have bought another game off of the credit card voucher if i was later with it...

So far its pretty good tactical fun atleast. Also got a copy that came along with the purchase that can be given to a friend but i wouldnt know any that like strategy games, so i'll just keep it till i bump into a good friend who does, i suppose.

I'm downloading the demo as we speak although I'm fairly cheap when it comes to buying stuff for myself so I doubt I'll actually get it.

EDIT:  I've never seen such an unoptimized game in my life.  I can run TF2 and GoldenEye Source on here with little problems but even with the gameplay backgrounds turned off, this thing lags horrendously.  It also takes an amazing amount of time just to load the AI's turn.

It was a fun little romp, though the wait time between turns was indeed annoying considering how few units there are.

Hm, aside from the AI taking its sweet time on larger maps i didnt encounter lots of loading and/or lag yet, loading levels works out so far, but when the AI gets 7+ units to play with, yeah...
Such as on the 6th level with a specific enemy target to take down, the AI has like 8+ guys, and there's 3-4 orange friendly AI guys, and it takes like 30-60 seconds for the AI to decide for them all. Now if perhaps they gave us some information or eye-candy in the process, much like normal turn-based games have a moment of the unit thinking then acting, no-one minds those, as there's something to watch.

No clue on if the multiplayer has the same AI-ish lag though, hope not assuming it should be less difficult sending the orders then it should for all the complex mechanisms to decide them and then confirm them. Oh well so far its a mind annoyance, i just hope it stays that way when i reach levels with 10-12+ enemies...

Edit: Taking it slow, got to levels 7-9, game's still being hard on me, but with average amount of AI units the decision making of the AI is not too long. Probaly does require a half-decent computer though.
