Title: SSBB Tournament: Congratulations Smunch!

So I thought we needed a break from Pokemon and Mega Man, and thought "Brawl". Yes it's old, but there's still some fun to be had.

RULES:
1. You're gonna need Wi-Fi and be able to use it to fight the other players in the tourney.
2. You may pick ONE character for use throughout the tourney. Once a character is picked, others may still pick that character.
3. All matches will be 1-on-1 unless otherwise noted.
4. This will be a double-elimination tourney. That means that you aren't completely eliminated unless you lost in the finals or you lost twice. (I.E. Loser Bracket)
5. Minimum players is 8, no maximum.
6. 3-stock, 8 minute matches will be played.
7. Items are off.
8. If the time runs out, the person with the most lives left wins, if both players have the same lives, person with the lowest percentage wins.
9. In case of a tie in Rule #8 or if both players lose their last life simultaneously, a 1-stock, 3-minute match will be played as tiebreaker.
10. All matches are best of 3 EXCEPT winner's finals, loser's finals, and championship match, which is best out of 5.
11. Meta Knight is banned. Sorry.
12. Don't be a dick and wait for the timelimit after one kill. I can't enforce this, but winning like this extremely cheap, don'tcha think?
13. If someone disconnects, they are considered to forfeit the game they were playing, NOT the whole match.
14. Each player picks a stage, then the last one is picked randomly. For the best of 5 matches, it goes player 1, 2, 1, 2, random.
15. Certain stages are banned:
75m
Big Blue (Melee)
Mushroomy Kingdom
New Pork City
Rumble Falls
WarioWare, Inc.
All Custom Stages

I know that I was debating this with you on Skype, but I just wanted to point it out here that I find this a bit unfair, especially when someone who wants to use someone they really like to use, and come to find they've been taken.

What if, instead of one character, you could select three? They are BO3 after all, and you could be restricted to using each one once per game in the BO3 matches.

Half because I don't want to make it one-sided if you get countered, and half because I want to use Captain Falcon and Bowser.

One thing, I think final smash orbs should be turned off. reason being is because of sonic, and because most of the times people will kill with it without even having to smash him off the old fashion way.

No stalling and time limit seem kinda contradictory. It's tough to define stalling, so why not just take out the time limit and stall clause?

No ban on Hanenbow? Pictochat? Mario Bros.? Flat Zone 2? I would look at general tourney rules and use the "counterpick" system. Certain stages are allowed only to be picked after losing one match. IIRC they're strict with even counterpicks as well (e.g. Castle Siege, Norfair etc. are counterpicks) but you can arrange it to your liking. I'd put Summit as a counterpick as well.

I'm going to take stalling out, because I can't enforce that. Just don't be a dick and wait for time to go up after getting one kill.

Connection error is not included in that.

I had a lot of complaints about most stages being banned because it takes the fun out of the game. Originally, there were a LOT more banned stages. I really didn't want to make the stage choosing system complicated, so I just went with picking your own.

Any rule regarding short absences or delays between matches? Like say...
I'm playing with Epic Kirby, my mom says "Hey Sam, I want you do to a load of laundry real soon.". Would it be considered a forfeit if I told Kirby after that round "Hey, can we wait a bit before our next round? I gotta do something real quick." and he agrees?

It was a good fight I must say. I need to get used to the lagging online gameplay so that I can really bring out diddy's true power (Basically grabbing and throughing the oppenent all over the place)

I suppose it wasn't my fault that I didn't check something that I thought entry closed. I'm not one to constantly pursue something once I don't make it either. So when I was  notified of someone dropping out say.. shortly ago, I didn't really know what to think. Seeing as I've never played online before, Metaknight being banned, and such notice, I just hit random, got Sonic, and went with it.

Enough arguing though. Good game, and continue on with the tourney.

Fyone and I finished our bout, he won both matches but I came pretty close to a comeback.
Admittedly he has one of the better Donkey Kongs I've seen.

Rush and I went one step further and did best 3 of 5.

On the battlefield of Captain Falcon's hands floating in space, Rush bested me with a gentleman's 2-stock lead.

In the luscious landscape of Awesome Island, I triumphed over Rush with 2-stock myself.

In the lair of Meta-ridley and Phazon corrupted Metroids, I defeated Rush dapperly with only 1 stock.

At the watery depths of the blood-stained Ghost ship, I was defeated by the tips of rush feet, sunk beneath the waves down 1 stock.

At the final battle, under the peace spring flora tree with village residents looking onward, I triumphed over Rush with a single stock lead.

tl;dr  I beat him

I took all 3 rounds.  

Halberd, my pick.  1 stocked, got a Knee and a Falcon Punch Kill.

Delfino Plaza, Fyone's pick.  2 stocked, got another Knee kill, and Fyone managed to glitch through the big shine sprite on accident and die.

Bridge of Eldin, the finale.  Super close game, ended with me winning with 150%.  Got another Knee kill.

Tonight, 2 men entered the finals of the SSBB tournament.  The stages were selected, and the battles to determine the destiny of the tournament commenced.

First was KD's pick, Final Destination.  The forces brought down an intensely close match, leading to Smunch's triumphant victory by the whites of his teeth.

Second was Yoshi's island.  Another duel of the ages commenced, and Smunch triumphed once more.

Third was KD's Smashville.  Yet another fierce festival of carnage occurred, and KD sealed his victory deftly.

Next was Halberd.  A decisive victory for Smunch occurred with a knee to end the knowing of the results.

Lastly was one more on FD, which ended up going to Smunch.  A falcon punch ended our bloodbath.  Truly an array of excellent games.


There goes all my money.

tl;dr I won 4-1.

It was impossible to pin him down. He was being so fucking annoying with his freaking side attacks that I spent too much time in the air for me to land any attacks. I couldn't do anything because he kept running at me and jumping over all my PKs.

Maybe I should do Wario instead.

EDIT: SOLARBLAST NINJA

That was my main problem- I couldn't do damage to him in the first place. It doesn't help that most of Ness' attacks leave him wide open if people dodge them.

I'm kind of worried about how well I'd do in a tournament. My main character is Link, and offline I'm very good with him. But online can get pretty laggy, and I seriously don't need to be any slower than Link already is. Though I don't remember the last time I played as him online, I can only assume the worst.
The last tournament I was on, I lost as Mario--my second main. Though I got close, I'm technically better as Link. I'm pretty torn over who I'd play as.




Of course, we'd have to have another tournament for that. Will there be a second one held soon?

if there is another tournament i would no doubt play as Ness

not to brag, but i am extremely good with him offline. i just love how his forward aerial flows into other attacks and is an awesome spacer. i also love his meteor smash and can time it perfectly for a fast kill

i also can angle his pk thunder however i want, but that could be a problem in an online match
