As far as i see this, theres no bugs or problems with it (understanding you were not able to find mm1's source files). The sounds entering the water sounds more clean, landing hits and shots on opponents sound more rewarding, and those dissapearing blocks in MM2HEA no longer sound obnoxiously loud!

I actually like this much better over the curent version in vanilla mm8bdm, because it just sounds much more crisp, if that makes any sence. As far as suggestions, I suggest you revisit the health/ammo pickups one more time; they still have that buffered sound to them when you pick them up.

continue the good work, can't wait for the mm1 rerips, and hoping that this will somehow make it to the core MM8BDM next update!

The hud background for this apparently dissapeared from existance. :L

Sounds good, maybe we can see to getting the sounds updated. I hope that they're compressed accordingly though. Having bundles of uncompressed windows format WAVs makes me cringe at the thought.

@Orange:

What in bloody tarnation...?! I didn't mess with anything but the sound effects!.

@Mike:

From my experience with YDClasses, all sound effects in this, the vanilla game and that mod are in wav format mostly for format consistency. I could try and see if turning all those sound effects into OGG audio files would change anything at all, but then the patch would have to be more specific about replacing files. Right now, it's just flat out overwriting them, but that's only because they literally have the same name and file format.

I wasn't talking specifically about the WAV extension, WAVs can be compressed in many ways using audio programs such as wavepad etc.

The Crash Bomber's explosion sound is still wrong. It should be using the "hit" sounds (mm2pain.wav) from MM2 several times in a row.

THIS

I did that on purpose, for consistency's sake

I could go all "USE THE RIGHT SOUND MORONS" on this if you want

He probably wants to know if the sounds are compressed so they're not giant.
Title: Re: MM8BDM Sound Effect Rerip Project
Post by: MusashiAA on June 19, 2012, 02:17:15 AM
No, they're uncompressed, and I don't think compressing fits the purpose of this project: reripping all of the sounds effects used in MM8BDM, with the goal of increasing the overall audible quality and game portrayal accuracy of these.

Currently, the reripped sound effects (that is, 69 out of 107 sound effects) already are heftier than all of the 107 vanilla sound effects by about 0,50 mb, but the overall quality is much better.

Also guys: MM6-styled health refill sound effect vs. MM2-styled health refill sound effect

I like the MM2-styled health refill sound effect more.

Might need a refrence of both sounds...

I'm unfamiliar with the MM6 refill sound myself.

Though, I really like the MM7 refill sound. It's low and mellow. Sounds cleaner.

but it's not 8-bit so forget I even said anything

The one currently used in MM8BDM, called ENERGYUP

The sound effect used in MM2, MM9 and MM10 is different.

You realize I could just make it from scratch, right?

Well in that case, do that.

I just love MM7's sound. It's just so darn clean.

Well, I have decided to use MM2-styled health/ammo refill SFX. I also secretly fixed Atomic Fire's charge sounds so they all last literally the same time. Tell me what you guys think.

Also, MMX1-2-3 music pack is up on the opening post, too. But who cares about that?

Just an update (and a call for assistance for those interested):

I have finally heard of found a way to effectively hear the sound effects from MM7 for closer examination so I can try to replicate them using Famitracker. So far I have a few player-related sound effects, and I'll eventually try my hand at making the sound effects used by the copy weapons AND the Robot Master fights.

Now, it is very likely I'll eventually need help for this, as some sound effects are just rather complicated for me to replicate right now. Let's just see how I go on about doing it by myself, and PERHAPS I'll show some WIP sounds.

The objective?

My intention is for my sound effects to be used for the vanilla MM8BDM MM7 weapons. Rockman 7 FC was a lazy demake, which used SFX from MM1-6 instead of replicating the MM7 sound effects. I want to fix that.

So expect some proof of work soon.

FINALLY

After a long time, today I was able to find a suitable .nsf file of Mega Man 1 for reripping sound effects!

Without further abooboo:

MM8BDM SFX Rerip Project V3, now with MM1 sound effects! (http://www.mediafire.com/?ooq9ebus1ojz0de)

Also

REPLICATING MM7 SOUND EFFECTS IN FAMITRACKER FOR VANILLA

This is virtually done. All that is left is some tweaking until I believe they're ready to be exposed.

Also also, you're going to LOVE what I did to Ice Slasher and Firestorm. Just dreamy~

Here's something huge for you all people: I have selected from my personal collection of Super Nintendo SPC audio files a number of video game tracks that range from the probably known to the quite obscure. I call this:

The Most Lazy Music Pack Ever Made
The SPC Specials Music Pack! (http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?irpt1leuataxvs7)
and here's the track list (http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=8dbyG8ng)

The music codes for this is simple: it's always "SPC" followed by the number of the track (SPC01, SPC02, SPC03, SPC10, SPC23...). To change the music playing, type changemus followed by the music code on the client console. Download and extract the music pack on the folder where your MM8BDM mods and files would be. If your system asks for any overwriting, that's just me making sure you have a Skins folder wether you want it or not, because you need it. Once that's done, you just need to fire up your game as usual, the music pack will be detected by the engine automatically.

Oh, I did it already. It was rather simple to recreate. Problem is, there are two energy refill SFX in MM7

One for menu energy refill

One for ingame energy refill

Plus, I'd rather just have a short sample of the MM2-styled energy refill to play for 2 seconds than a totally new sound effect no one's ever heard or associated with the NES games...

Should I release a build of MM7WeaponsSFX to the public? I mean, the MM8 team didn't like them all enough to be added inmediately :I
