Title: Pokemon Nuzlocke Challenges
Post by: Dr. Freeman on July 03, 2012, 05:31:18 PM
So what is this? The 20th Pokemon related topic on this forum? Whatever.

So before a mod shoots me in the head for making a topic like this, let me explain stuff.
So I wanted to be really uncreative and steal Llama's idea of making a Nuzlocke topic, but Llama is a smart cookie and told me that if someone else makes a Nuzlocke topic and brings the number to two. Every other user in the world will want to make a Nuzlocke topic and the board will be filled with them, kinda like hurt and heal/mafia in the forum game sections.

So to avoid the clutter of 30 different Nuzlocke topics, I think the best thing to do is to make one big topic for all of them, and I can post a table of contents somewhere in this first post to everyone's Nuzlocke (If they decide to do one.) Of course we could be wrong and no one else would care about making one, but it's better safe than sorry. Or better safe than have 20 topics everywhere.

tl;dr: Every Nuzlocke that's not Llama's (cause it exists) should be posted in this master topic so there's not clutter and crap.

Edit: Oh yeah, cause Llama is very demanding have some rules.

And then there's me who attempted to do a Pearl Nuzlocke, but just said fuck it later. I never actually played any of the Sinnoh games to full-length anyways. I also thought of doing one of those sidegames, but they're partially impossible or really painful to do.

Herp. Nuzlocke runs are amusing.

I predict death in both of your futures.

Also because this thread doesn't exactly list the causes and effects of the Nuzlocke Challenge:

Also guys don't forget that screenshots are just one of many ways to do nuzlockes

If you prefer story runs or comic runs then please go ahead

Bleh, I'll edit the rules in the first post.
But screenshot is the easiest way...

I also predict death in my future

I imagine it'll be a peaceful death at a tender old age

Also, yes, screenshot is easier, though maybe I'll do a comic run or something

Since it's a real-system run, can I be a total face and just post my progress w/o all the story-telling pics and such?

The egg is possibly not worth it maybe, but I can't quite say if Togepi worth raising. Also I think I might as well do a nuzlocke on Crystal since Labada is doing Silver. And Epic is doing Gold.

And I really think Chikorita and Totodile could use more love in Gen 2 nuzlockes here. Hurrr

Post by: DarkAura on July 08, 2012, 04:22:35 AM
Somewhat worth it if under some certain condi--oh wait...2nd Gen Togepi. Yeah, not much he can do.

Welp, I almost lost Bud, and possibly several others, against Mars' Purugly. Had Bud not survived by 1 HP or activated Poison Point, I'd be in serious danger. And i almost lost Beiber to a wild Shellos while getting greedy with his Defence Curl/Rollout combo during which he got confused.

Maybe I should've written a story on this.

I'm considering a sort of semi Nuzlocke challenge, but where I start with all the Eeveelutions, and can only ever use them.
Title: Re: Pokemon Nuzlocke Challenges
Post by: Donutyoshi on July 08, 2012, 06:05:53 AM
The only games you actually start with Eevee or his evolutions would be just Colosseum and XD (Mystery Dungeon doesn't even count btw). And I can't really be certain if those are even Nuzlocke-able. You probably looking for a romhack.

Can't be Nuzlocke if you just use them too, Nuzlocke's about using the wild pokes, grinding, and boxing the fainted. We got 7, and 1 has to be out of the team. That, and I already sorta called dibs here on an Eevee Evolution team for Black 2.

Well, here's the thing. I said SEMI Nuzlocke. I would still be doing all the same thing more or less. And if anything, I would be doing Gen III. Also, that's 6 Eeveelutions right there. The thing is, I'd just be using a gamegenie thingy to alter what the wild Pokemon I encounter are, but it doesn't change their levels.

In any case, I was planning to do this sort of Eeveelution run at some point anyway.

Post by: LlamaHombre on July 08, 2012, 05:13:14 PM
How set Pokemon runs usually work:

Can't catch any pokemon other than HM slaves
Can only use set Pokemon in battle
Death of one set pokemon results in failure

How Colosseum/XD runs usually work:

Grab a coin whenever a Shadow Pokemon appears
Call what you believe it will be, then flip coin
If coin contradicts what you say, can't catch the Pokemon
Normal Nuzlocke rules apply beyond these rules

Since it occurs to me how close I actually am to the end of Kanto, I'm thinking of tackling one of two ideas.

[Sonic Sapphire Run] - Nickname everything after Sonic characters
[WGAF Black Run] - Nickname everything after whatever I feel like

I knew from the start that her Roserade was going to end it for me when I couldn't even find a freaking Starly. Her Cherubi and Turtwig weren't even a problem. I tried what I could: paralysing it, Worry Seed, a souped-up Mega Drain after using 4 Growths that did only a scratch. Since my memory of Diamond was still foggy, I hadn't a clue that it was at Level 22, and I had no idea that they would even be that strong at the 2nd Gym. Plus a Sitrus Berry and a Super Potion that brought it back to full health. The only regret I had in this was making Meditite learn Feint in place of Hidden Power.

Funny thing, though. Someone IRL told me how much he hated Starly because they always pop up everywhere. The one time I needed a Starly and I get Bidoofs.

Post by: LlamaHombre on July 11, 2012, 05:16:26 AM
I had no idea something as early as the second gym could end up being this murderous, even for Gen IV standards.

I truly am sorry for your losses, but I hope you'll be able to recover.

I highly recommend getting that Budew to like you ASAP. Roselia is going to save your life for getting your team back up to shape. If you need to return to a previous area to train up your Buneary, then don't feel afraid to. Do not head back to Eterna Forest's grass for a while though, as anything could happen.

Shellos and Buizel are rather great companions to have, at least, but don't forget about the mansion. You won't be able to get Rotom, but Haunter's always a great Pokemon for this kind of thing, and it'll help you ignore Maylene completely.

Best of luck.

I am not really familiar with increasing a Pokemon's happiness that well w/o the use of items. Am I supposed to just battle with it or constantly walk back and forth to make it happy? Budew was already past the level in which Roselia learns Giga Drain. The most I could've done for him was a synergist/saboteur combo, like Toxic/Toxic Spikes and Aromatherapy/Synthesis. Buneary's only non-Normal type move being Low Kick and Bounce I'm not really favoring. Unfortunately, it's too late for Budew because I forgot about freaking Jupiter. Had he not have sacrificed himself or her Skuntank not act stupid, I would've been dead. Left Buneary and Haunter with critical health.

Since I haven't actually done a Nuzlocke before, a special rule I'll add for my run is Pokemon defeated in Triple/Rotation battles are not killed. Instead, if one is defeated, I stop what I'm doing and return to the Pokemon Center to heal them, then return to what I was doing.

Probably cheap as hell but otherwise I'd have not a shot.

I finally beat my Nuzlocke of Pokemon Yellow at long last.  The elite four was BRUTAL. too bad EXCEPT LORELEI UHGFRWHGIURWHG I HAD 2 POKEMON KILLED.

Against Lorelei, Smashbro the Nidoqueen died at level 53

Against Agatha, Lobsters the Venusaur died at level 49.

So when I got to champion blue, I held out extremely well. That is until he got to Vaporeon.

HIS LEVEL 65 VAPOREON KILLED:

MegaSlave the Pidgeotto at level 31

Gumballtoid the Blastoise at level 50

Donutyoshi the Snorlax at level 51

And finally, through some freak luck, DAVERIS THE HITMONCHAN AT LEVEL 43, KILLED IT WITH A CRITICAL HIT WITH THUNDERPUNCH.

FINAL PARTY:

Daveris the Hitmonchan: Level 44

HD 2 (Pidgey)
Uncreative with names?

I felt like spiting HD. He already died by this point and I told the guys in the call that the Pidgey would be boxed forever because Spearow. =D

So I finally took a break from everything and did some progress on my Diamond run. Nothing too important to report...save one thing. I lost Thorndyke (Roselia) to a wild Graveler on Iron Island while attempting to capture it. Apparently I forgot that Rollout is a continuous move that gets stronger with each use. Then it all lead up to the point that it kiilled itself so I couldn't capture it. And that's what happens when you seed and confuse him at the same time. A harsh blow since Thorndyke was used for capturing most of the Pokemon I got becasue of Leech Seed. Now I'll just have to get lucky with Zephyr or Siren's Confuse Ray.

Also, a question about the "duplicate" rule:
Since I captured Tentacool, I ran into a Tentacruel while on the way to Canalave City. Since it wasn't a duplicate I was able to capture it, but I didn't. But if I did, would I be forced to refrain from evolving Tentacool into a Tentacruel or would I have to release the Tentacruel before I do so?

With the death of my laptop comes the death of my FireRed file, so HD and Gumball are alone in the quest.

Meanwhile I started Black 2

Team-
Gilgamesh- (Level 8 Oshawott)
Papcorn- (Level 6 lame Sunkern)
Lemon Juice- (Level 5 awesome Riolu)

RIP-
I hate- (Dead cat)

grinding is boring.

So remember that thing HD, Freeman, Tango and I did?

We picked that up again.

This time we added Smash and Llama into the mix and actually did work.
