Title: Who's your favourite Robot Master and why?

I had a poll up a while a go asking everyone who their favourite Robot Master was, and it got 472 votes! Considering most polls only get around 70 votes that's crazy talk. Air Man won with flying colours (and we all know why...).

So who's your favourite and why? "He looks cool" isn't really acceptable, go into detail!

Just FYI, we're talking about the CLASSIC series, so no mavericks or exe junk.

Mine should be obvious, but it's Cut Man. As for why, he was the first Robot Master I fought and I was just dead impressed at how hard I found such a simple pattern. Yeah he's easy now, but his simple design is just cool. Scissor blades on his head, ears for where you put your fingers, genius! I didn't actually notice that until much much later either. His weapon ain't so bad either.

As you can see by my avatar, mine's Gemini Man! Why? Well, I like his "gimmick", the way he creates a clone of himself... It's just a fresh take on the boss battle!  :)

Erm, his stage is also quite cool (but rather easy-ish and short IMO), and I like his weapon, the Gemini Laser!

There was one that I do like, but I do not know his name. He basically looks like Boba Fett with a shoulder canon on his shoulder, and he appeared in the episode of Megaman where he came from the future. He looked so badass.

Tengu Man (*Cough* hence the Avi *Cough*)

Despite being another conceited robot created by Wily, he just seems to have the potential of being the most powerful Air-themed robot created, if not the most dangerous ((think Deadpool, but without the mental insanity)).

This, and the fact that I love his Design and the fact that he's based on my favorite Japanese mythological creature The Tengu (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tengu).

his level is cool and has a badass theme! :lol:
His weapon is awesome.

My favourite robot master is Toad Man, obviously! (in case you can't tell my avatar is Toad Man)
I always loved how rediculously easy he was, and he looks pretty silly too, and you don't get much more sillier than a belly wiggling frog robot! He is sorta cute too, I've always thought that frogs and toads were adorable for some reason.

Any Fire Robot Master,More Specifically,Solar Man

Solar Man is pretty cool in design,and i like his ability to make Freaking Artificial suns,which comes in hand while up in the Snowy North

Solarman is my favourite in MM10, but only in his official art, his sprite lacked alot of detail. I like how he resembles some kind of spaniard bandit, his body resembles a pancho, and his head looks like a sombrero

Shadowman. I've always been a fan of ninjas, and his ability to turn into a log and summon a robot frog (though he doesn't do either of those in the original) is awesome.

Also, Megaman 3 was my favorite Megaman game. It had all the best robot masters. Its seconded only by Megaman 2.

They're all SO GOOD.

My first favorite like REALLY favorite was ShadowMan cuz his blue ninja design and awesome weapon with RAZOR BLADE noise it was off the hook. Then I started liking ElecMan more cuz he has cool red/yellow/black color scheme with Electro mask, zapping powers, and the best music known to mankind.

But thanks to MM8BDM I'm starting to like TopMan more NOoOOOoo (he can spin???)

Quick man of course. Mostly because his level was was a challenge without making me go insane. also, i like his power, the boomerangs are cool and he's supposedly the fastest robot master out there.

Drillman is just plain awesome, I mean he has drill arms, he puts Crashman to shame.

Fire Man. Not only is his stage a good challenge, what with fire and lava death coming from everywhere, but he's a frickin' candle that shoots waves of flame. His weapon is also quite useful.

In all seriousness, however, I haven't found a real favorite yet. Another top contender is Shadow Man, cause he seems pretty kick-ass as well.

Chillman.

I have an expression which I believe applies to all video games ever made. Snow levels always increase video game's quality. Megaman, being a video game is no exception. So initially I liked his concept, on top of his sweet Dr. Freeze helmet made me really like him.

Before Megaman 10 I would say topman. I like his style.

Well, I have a lot of favorites, but I guess one of my top favorites is Crash Man/Clash Man (I prefer Crash, though)
He looks cool, he has a pretty awesome weapon (drills+bombs=fuck yes.), and he has some awesomely catchy music.

Yeah I have to admit his stage is missing something. The Light switch gimmick should have been in Bright Man's stage, not his! I hear his music and I expect epic mine cart rides, not annoying timed boulder jumps  :(

also, mine would have to be pharaoh man because his stage and battle are sweet, he looks cool and has great music, and his weapon is my 3rd favorite in megaman history, behind jewel sattelite and quick boomerang

at the moment, my favorite robot master is probably Knightman because he's cool, has a nice song, and is British, though my favorite boss is definitely Duo.

Gotta go with Pharaoh Man. He's pretty fun and challenging to fight (if you're not using Flash Stopper) his stage is pretty cool, he has a nice weapon, and his song isn't half bad either (though there's better in mm4)

His punching in the cartoon and 4MI helped a little too...

Gotta go with Gemini Man.  Looks awesome, is an ice guy which is always fun, has a stage with lots of variety, his weapon makes that cool "bzzzerk!" noise and oneshots those damnable needle harrys, and I just dig rebounding weapons in general... what's not to love?  Also he was crazy fun in classes back when you could play very recklessly aggressive to get a few points while quickly building up a mob of ravenous clones to flood the whole stage with artificial teammates.

Napalmman. Okay, Megaman 5 wasn't that good, but man, I don't care. He has an awesome song, an awesome design, and he's a freaking LIVING ARMS DEPOT. Oh, and I have a thing for most explosive robot masters.

Burnerman is pretty cool too, though.

Snake Man. I like his design, plus he has a great song (although most Mega Man songs are great so that isn't saying much). He has a creative stage theme; the interior of his stage is implied to be almost entirely made of robotic snakes (in this way, you can see the first Big Snakey from the beginning of the stage). He has an irregular shaped arena, which is always fun. Plus, he's so badass that his main method of attacking (aside from Search Snakes) is running into you. His Search Snake weapon however, both when he uses it and you get to use it, isn't that great of a weapon. I didn't find a few of MM3's weapons very useful, actually.

Enker.

For as early in the series as he came, I felt he was ahead of his time in the design. He was the first Robot Master to wield a physical weapon, which made him stick out in my mind. Complete with the gold armor, he was just so memorable to me. His weapon is incredible and he's just a fun boss to fight.

He also has some nostalgic value in that he was the first boss I beat buster-only without taking damage (this was like five or six years ago). Dr. Wily's Revenge was my first classic Mega Man game. His placement in the game was also nice in the fact that I just finished these fights against all these Robot Masters, and then Enker shows up as Wily's trump card.

Flame Man's pretty rad. His design is very well polished and one of the better ones of the series on my opinion. His theme is fantastic and uses the 2A03 sound perfectly. His stage is a lot of fun to play around in, as well as vibrant and filled with character. His boss fight is a lot of fun and still one of the more diverse bosses in Mega's NES legacy, and by beating it he rewards you with two unique weapons. The Flame Blast is a very interesting and diverse addition to your arsenal, being not only one of your strongest weapons, but one of your ones that you rely on the most. You also receive the Power Adaptor which dishes hella hurt and helps bring home the branching level design that MM6 passionately brings to the table. Needless to say, Flame Man is one of the hottest masters around and I consider it a burn to his legacy to not be noticed more.

Ballade. He's kind of an overconfident jackass, but his weapon and color scheme are amazing. He just... sticks for some reason.

Mine is Nitroman as well, he has one of the greater designs of his generation of robot masters.

Mine is Quickman. There's something about his design and colour scheme that goes really well, along with the fact that I sort of have a desire for speed myself at times. His stage is also really fun, including the fight which is one of the most enjoyable battles in the series. Really, it feels more like a proper battle compared to most others and I really admire that.

His weapon is quite decent too, just too bad metal blade was asdf.

I think that either Quickman or Pharohman. My reasons are Quickman has the best design, and he has elecman's parts. For Pharohman, he has a great design, a great theme, and is in my favorite megaman game. Now, before anyone says, "pick one robot," you are making me choose from 80+ robots. How is it that easy?


Edit:I forgot knight, centaur, nitro, shadow, and Zero. Knightman has the sole reason that I love medieval aspect. For Centaurman, I love Ancient Greek mythology. For Nitroman, he has a great theme and he is a MOTORCYCLE. How can you not like that? For Shadowman, he is a ninja and has a good song. Zero is one of the obvious ones. He is a maverick hunter that is the neutral of the main characters. He is in Wily's database, so he is a robot master. He also is my favorite in the X series.

Double jump
Multi-directional aim
Epic hair (that nobody ever seems to know exists)
You have to pay for him. He's so cool you can't buy him with bolts, you need real cash.

Heheh.....well my favorite robot master would have to be Frost Walrus from Mega Man X4. The reason why is because when you take his health down halfway he does this neat move where he creates a huge ice ball glacier thing, then blows it up which sends ice at you.

To my knowledge, the only character in the X series that can be called a robot master is Zero

My favorite Robot Master is Snakeman (username could hint at that  ;) ). Even though the battle itself with Snakeman isn't too difficult or anything, I still think he's pretty cool, even if some people I've talked to think his design is stupid. With all the lives I've lost playing various Megaman games, it's pretty nice to pretend I don't suck while fighting him. His stage soundtrack is pretty cool, too!

:|  I like shadowman best... all though enker is my favorite ROBOT, i dont really think enker counts anyways.

But the whole intire view of shadowman makes him great. Since his number is not really "dr wily's" you can think up anything about him, unless your a megaman know it all and want everything you think about robot masters to be what capcom thinks. Plus his theme just makes me think... "ok... what the heck is going on again... I don't even know what this yellow flashing thing is...  :lol: " Yea, pretty much the story of me playing Megaman for the first time

My favorite robot master would be Magnet Man. He has a neat design, catchy theme, and his weapon was cool. He was really fun to play as in KY classes, YD's magnet almost reminds me of KY's but I'll always prefer KY's version. As for maverick, I'd say it would be Magma Dragoon. Reasons: Awesome theme, nice design (A nod to street fighter), and I kinda felt sorry for him after he got destroyed.

Freeze Man would have to be my favorite. Slick, stylish design and one of the best looking fights in the Mega Man series. His weapon is meh, it had a lot of potential though. That and his stage theme is pretty good.

If we're going to talk about mavericks too, I'm going with Metal Shark Player (Prayer?) for a badass design, cool looking weapon and awesome resurrection powers. Callbacks to earlier games in the series are always awesome!.

Too bad,the net navi is ugly, but his gravity drive/hold is really awesome (DRIVE *crunch*)

Most beautifull song (a little sad) for me in MM5
In my favorite megaman game (Yeah, mm5 is easy but so nice, the musics are beautiful)

His weapon is really good and FUNNY. (except for the others).
If i must to be a robotmaster, i think, Gravityman can be really awesome and funny. (troll time).

As you can guess from my avatar, mine is Tomahawk Man. Why you ask? I just like how he is designed! He looks majorly cool, plus the fact his weapon is a Tomahawk! I always found him cool, especially since I 1st fought him in Mega Man 6. I found him very formidable, even with his weakness (Plant Barrier)! And at the end of the day, Tomahawk Man is pretty determined if you ask me. He seems like the kind of person who doesn't give up without one hell of a fight! And besides... who doesn't like Mega Man 6?  :cool:

I enjoyed 6 quite a bit! In fact, all the RMs from 6 were actually pretty cool! Well, not Plant Man, but hey, Tomahawk Man was awesome. I liked Knight Man the most.

*looks through topic* I was pretty sure I made a comment here... eh.

Mine's Tomahawk Man, although Wind and Wave come close too. A robot master based off American natives? A stage with cowboy robots set in a cave within a desert? Oh hell, yes. I even went so far as to make a reference to Sunset Riders on the first version of the remixed map, and make that mountain with power weapons in the center. However, the thing I liked most about his stage was the change from high noon when entering the cave, to sunset when exiting it. As a boss, I found him quite tricky at first, and still gives me some trouble avoiding hits. Probably should depend less on Plant Barrier, but anyway. Hands down my favorite RM of all time.

My favorite Robot Master is Quick Man and plenty to say why.
1. Quick Man debuted on Mega Man 2 (the best NES Mega Man)
2. He's to date one of the slickest-looking Robot Masters (being designed after Elec Man)
3. His weapon is strong AND rapid (with the exception of its variation in MM2:TPF)
4. He's one of the few Robot Masters to ever make his own decisions in-game (SAR he saves Mega Man!)
5. He's one of the closest to defeat Mega Man (Archie Comics Story Arc #3)
6. He is a close colleague to several Robot Masters and even the Mecha Dragon (see Manga - LIKE A BOSS!)

My favorite has to be Tengu Man. Great stage. He was even special enough to get 3 different themes. Not only that, he has the ability to fly at quick speeds, manipulate the powers of the wind through the use of the Tengu Blade and the Kamaitachi wind sphere, and his weapon, the Tornado Hold, is amazing. Not only is it a standard weapon, but it can be used as a utility for reaching higher places as well as blocking enemy shots. Oh, and the Tengu Blade allows you to slash and dash at the same time and then release a slash of razor sharp wind. Only one question remains; "Are you worthy of my challenge?"

His eyes have a fiery passion in them that just says, "it's time to slice and dice." My qualities in general seem to fit those of his from his Megaman & Bass CD Data, save for quick at work (quality over quantity  :ugeek: ). Overall, it just feels like he's a bit more sharp than Cutma-*shot*.

Hm... Time for updating?

MM1: ...Hm... Well, I don't feel attached to any of them in particular.
MM1 (Powered Up): Time Man. I love time-themed Robot Masters, and this guy is awesome. Too bad I don't have a PSP, which means I'll never get to play his stage and/or against him in the game he made his debut. At least I have YD Classes.
MM2: Tied between Quick Man and Flash Man. Quick Man, because I like his stage and weapon, his design is really cool, and his music is my favorite of MM2. Flash Man, because he can stop time. And his design is neat. His music's pretty cool too, my second favorite from that game.
MM3: ...Top Man. I have my reasons. I actually rather like his design. His stage is alright, but the music is awesome (both the NES and GB versions). His weapon is REALLY powerful if you know how to use it, too.
MM4: Hmm... Dust Man. I dig Dust's design, his music is one of my favorite Mega Man pieces period, his level has a good atmosphere, and his weapon is useful.
MM5: Yeah, it's Gravity Man. Manipulating gravity is just boss. Also, cool music and stage, as well as neat design.
MM6: Plant Man. Before you bring out the pitchforks and Torch Men, let me explain. I am fond of his stage, with nice bouncing (which is fun! Wheeee!). I like his design, and the pacifist in me is fond of his weapon. This is possibly the only Robot Master I feel I could get along with, as he seems rather friendly. Plus, we both dislike bees. Possibly favorite Robot Master ever.
MMV: Mars. His design is badass, his weapon is cool, and his music is epic. Need I say more?
MM7: Erm... Well, I'm not too fond of MM7... But... Turbo Man? I don't like his stage, but I do like his weapon, design, and music.
MM8: ........Uh........ I just don't have one. I don't really feel anything in particular for any of the Robot Masters. They just don't grab me- STAY AWAY FROM ME, CLOWN MAN!! If I HAD to pick, maybe Search Man? His design is my favorite of the ones from 8, and the multiple personality thing is entertaining.
MM&B: Well... I don't have one.
MM&B2: . . .Not enough experience with this one.
MMPC (1 and 3): Grouping them together, because yeah. I'd probably pick... Petrol Man (Oil Man, but since the name's now taken by something else...). Probably the elements of Flash Man in his design that makes me say that.
MM9: Splash Woman, because we need more female Robot Masters. (Plus a beautiful stage theme and great weapon).
MM10: While I like Sheep Man's stage and music a lot, I'm not particularly fond of the Robot Master himself. So... Solar Man. Nice design, nice weapon, alright stage, and awesome music.
MMU: Rainbow Man. I dig his music, design, and stage (YEAH I SAID IT). Pretty cool guy. TASTE THE RAINBOW, MOTHER-*shot*
Mega Man Killers: ...Eh.
Overall: Plant Man in first, not sure who'd be in second.

5. He's one of the closest to defeat Mega Man (Archie Comics Story Arc #3) => In the manga megamix too, without Flashstopper, megaman IS dead. Yeah Quickman is epic and nice!
And he has the best theme of mm battle & chase (for me but "Though the air" is beautiful and epic).

My favorite has to be Centy. Centy has nice stage aesthetics with fitting music (although the music by itself isn't memorable), and Centy has an irregular design that I really rather like. Plus, there's the little 8-bit clopping noise made; although it's a small touch, I really like it. How many Robot Masters make noise when they walk?

Honorable mentions:

Charge Man. He's a train with limbs; his design alone is ridiculous enough to be cool. What puts him as one of my favorites, however, is how he plays in YD classes for MM8BDM. I enjoy being able to Melee an opponent and dash away in one attack.

Drill Man, mostly for his MM8BDM class; the ability to run away with temporary invincibility and visual invisibility is great for Hale.


Also, most of the MM6 RMs for their designs and theming.

I wouldn't say that I can nail down a favorite, (split between Metal man, Bombman, Flashman, Gemini man, Fireman) but I am not as fond of many of the later entries in the series except for 9 (as I have not had any problems with the games in which Inafune did most if not all of the character designs 1, 2, 3, 9)
I felt the designs of the Robot monsters in 1, 2 and 3 were home runs.

-I go into further detail regarding certain robot masters in my spoiler, feel free to skip it, but there is also some props to one particular game in the series, a concept that the series itself should have embraced thereafter.

I find Centaur man stupid as a concept and the name just, I don't know sounds wrong

Yamato man is cool, but naming him after a region (really, thats what Yamato is), come on there has to be something better suited than that, whats next "Jersey shore man" or "the Hamptons man"

Search man is cool, but naming him that is dumb, why not ambush man or something else. The name Search man is dumb, makes me think his specialty should be finding Carmen Sandiego and Waldo. Even "Grassy Knoll man" would be better

and although they kinda managed to pull it off don't get me started with Sheep man as a concept.
The arts style and concepts for MM(pc) sucked, and on top of that Dyna man..really.. a nuclear powered weapon is a bit much
the Megaman pc 3 tile was leaps and bounds better, and better captured the style of the nes series though still had its problems
Sharkman, (not all for naming after and stylizing after animals (though they seems to pull it off in the x series, because the animal itself isn't the power)
and Bit man was a weak of a concept to begin with...

Now we come to Compass man, perhaps the biggest fail of all, that would be a perfect name if his power was pointing north.

I loved how they used our solar system as a theme for Megaman V (not 5, the one for gameboy, that was a genius idea IMO)

Would have like to see more Megaman games built a round a central theme like what was done in 5. Perhaps robot masters built around the Zodiac and have Gemini man return for that, or have a game with masters built around precious and no precious stones: Diamond, Emerald, Ruby, Onyx, Sapphire etc

Or Elements from the periodic table, there are so many great ideas to choose from, such as: Gold, Silver, Titanium, Helium, Platinum, Lead, Hydrogen, Helium, Nitrogen, Plutonium, Mercury (liquid metal, completely different that V's stardroid)....

Nope I haven't until I just looked it up, becasue its not my kind of game. Having them be conceptualized for this game, but not used in the regular format, shooting platformer styled Megaman is a waste IMO. Its too bad really, as I do enjoy their design.(except the Gemini robot design has go to go)

Though an official release, not even sure if the game is canonical

I'm not sure that I really have a favourite, based solely on the Robot Master itself... but if their preceding stage is any reason to pick a favourite then it's certainly not going to be Ice Man...

I guess I've always been partial to Drill Man, although (besides him just looking cool and having my favourite weapon) this has more to do with the level design in GameBoy MMIII, rather than anything in the NES MM4 level (with its badly-used and out-of-place light switch gimmick*).

Drill Man himself is just one of those bosses that can be unpredictable if you don't have Dive Missile. He's either really easy and simply drills into the floor, reappearing only to take some hits like a bozo before immediately burying himself again (repeating the pattern until he explodes)... or he behaves like an utter dick and rushes around hurling Drill Bombs every half-second before leaping across the room and onto your head, a generally unavoidable and very painful situation, all while not once going underground to give you time to breathe.

For some reason I find this potential horror of a boss fight appealing, although I always make sure that I already have Dive Missile in case I really need it.


*wouldn't it have made more sense for Bright Man to have something like this? Drill Man could have had hazards similar to those found in Needle Man's level in MM3, but deadlier.

Anyways Turbo Man is the FIRST Robot Master that can turn into a car. (If its bigger he'd be a Decepticon >:P) Its quite nice how he has the shades, and to have red eyes behind those shades!? Ain't that a hiding sense. Its better when his body consists of Engines and stripes of Finish Flags! To Top it off, Scorch Wheel. Some people get their car on fire for overburning it so why not give him his weapon?
MM7 Battle? Please don't use the Noise Crusher. It kinda ruins my fun.
RM7FC Battle? Bs. No Warning when he is about to Crash Drive into you, It requires a leap of faith!
Now to make others quick.
MM1: ...Cut Man :P
MM2: Flash Man, Metal Man
MM3: Needle Man.
MM4: PHARAOH SHOTGU- *Coughs twice* Ehem... I mean Pharaoh Man.

Time Man because I think he has a cool design and time manipulation in general is pretty cool imo.

Frost Man because his stage theme is probably my favorite out of all the megaman games.

Grenade Man, because who just doesn't love him? He's a Robot Master with Tourettes, he loves to blow stuff up, and he's just THAT psycho, that he actually loves to be in Explosions!

And also, Gemini Man, because his concept is just pretty cool to begin with; he can split himself into two clones. But his personality, is on the snobby side.

Ah, this one is kinda obvious. I think it's a 3-way tie, actually. First, Tornadoman from MM9. The guy's just awesome. Fanblades that pop out of his hands? Yes please! :mrgreen: His overall design is really cool. Also, his theme is probably my favorite piece of music from the entire series. And his weapon, Tornado Blow, is a freakin' screen nuke. Then we have Yokuman from Megaman Unlimited. When I realized that this was an entire boss based off the disappearing blocks ever since Iceman, I was pumped to fight him. :twisted: His stage is so torturous, yet so fun. I've never seen such creativity before with touches like the fact that the disappearing block sound is worked into his theme song just to throw you off more. :shock: And his fight uses similar creativity, what with the fakeout defeats and such. And his weapon, Yoku Attack, is friggin' awesome. :D But probably my favorite is from good ol' Megaman Powered Up, Timeman. His idea, a time-travel robot that is currently unfinished, is cool. His stage, in a giant clock tower, is really fun. His theme is the second best music piece in MMPU, beat only by Wily Boss. His personality and dialogue are awesome. "Look at my watch. You're late. It's out of the question. Go home." And his weapon, Time Slow, is really useful, if marred by its limited ammo count. Where do you think i got the name from?  :cool:
