Title: Kingdom Hearts
Post by: Tengu on August 07, 2012, 06:38:50 PM
This is a rather popular game series, I'm surprised I haven't seen a topic regarding it. I thought, why not.

So has anyone played through the newest game yet :ugeek:

Friend of mine says it's harder than alot of the other KH games. I plan on getting it just watching like 10 min. of him playing on his live stream lol.

Yeah I've played through a bit of it and the battle mechanic is really similar to Birth by Sleep. I'm wondering if that's going to be the new definitive style of gameplay.

I've only played the first and seen a bit of 2 and Dream Drop distance, Cerberus keeps kicking my ass. Does he have a weakness? if so can someone tell me?

Oh, no he doesn't have a weakness but pro tip, if you hit his fireballs with precise timing, you'll smach them right back at him.

Also, when he does his long sequence of biting, choose one of the outer heads and attack from the side of him, not from the front

Oh i beat him now, I was being so cautious this time after doing a combo i mashed the square button so i can dodge roll out of the way as soon as i landed, and i spammed thunder since i checked the wiki and its the only spell that does normal damage :P

I wasn't really a magic man myself in the KH series. In 1 and 2 I rarely used magic. I know in 1 I would use Fire quite often or Blizzard (as I was always in the middle of enemies). That and Cure. In II i rarely used magic at all. I think the only time I used magic was the Sephiroth fight and I used Aero to reflect those little spheres (and to heal of course).

Not entirely sure how DDD does magic.

DDD uses that "ability deck" thing that Birth by Sleep uses

Although i gave up magic, i still use it often enough. If I'm swarmed I'll use thunder, and the fire heartless i spam blizzard, cure I spam instead of using potions now.

Finally got the Mark of Mastery edition in the mail.

Control-wise, this is shaping up to be my favorite game ever~

I downloaded the Demo last night and played it and I get severely confused (but grasp the basics is that makes sense). I tend to get into fits were I go "OOOO LOOK AT ALL THE GRAPHICS!" when I was playing. I think that's just something I always do even with new gen games (even though KHI and II had the same art styles).

The movement system is pretty awesome. I like the rapid wall jumping and quick movement.  Also how liked how they tweaked the battle system to incorporate the new movement system as well. I think the whole Deck thing is still somewhat confusing to me as I have to get used to actually using the D-Pad.

Though after the demo, I still play to pick this game up at some point. That and Mario Kart 7.

So uh.

Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD came out the other day. Has anyone gotten it yet? I got my pre-ordered copy, and then I got home..

 AND THE DISC WAS CRACKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was very upset. I was so excited to play it, too... ;_;

I need to go exchange it.

Well, I cleared Kingdom Hearts 1 Final Mix on the 1.5 HD Collection on standard mode.

I'm gonna try to go for 100% completion on it but I kind of blew through the entire game in two days so.. Yeah..

I was completely unaware that KH 3D had a secret boss and more things to do after endgame.

Huh.......

Anyways, I'm getting KH 1.5 HD Remix soon and I'm pretty hyped for it. Soo glad it's only $29.99, especially since I haven't used my PS3 in forever and that I'll be able to play Chain of Memories again after such a long time ~

Daily reminder that KH3D was wasted effort and has bad gameplay mechanics

at least re:coded was playable (probably). kh3d was a clusterfuck of bad gameplay mechanics, repetitive world scenarios, and generic enemy bosses.

Yeah, I have to admit the boss battles and worlds in KH 3D were kinda boring. :/

KH 1.5 arrived earlier in the mail today and I can't wait to get further in it~

Re:Coded will still be the worst KH for me (and it's still not that bad a game).  The worlds were mostly repeats of their counterparts in KH 1 with the exception of Castle Oblivion/Cyberworld silliness at the end.  It felt so boring that it's to this date the only Kingdom Hearts game I have no desire to replay.

KH 3D on the other hand at least tried to branch out in directions the series hadn't gone in.  The Dream Eaters were extremely customizable and innovative, and while they could never outdo Donald and Goofy, I loved the designs and unique strategies they brought.  And while the jumping off of almost any surface was pretty unreliable and clunky, it felt so fun to use to get around.  If they could fine-tune it for KH 3 I would be so happy~

So yeah, long story short, I really don't think KH 3D deserves all the negativity it gets.

I didn't even find the flow motion (I think it was called) clunky, I thought it was smooth. It made getting around and fighting really easy, too. Actually, that's my only issue with flow motion. Flow motion sometimes allow you to become an OP being of mass destruction that none can stop. Just keep bouncing on a wall and perform special attacks to sweep the floor of all enemies. In other KH games, the enemies at least felt like somewhat of a threat. In KH:3D, only the bosses took even a little effort when using flow motion. If they do bring it back, they should make it extremely limited so this doesn't happen. With normal keyblading, the enemies are decent enough to have a fair fight with.

KH3D is my 2nd favorite Kingdom Hearts game, though. Does it really get so much negativity?

Daily reminder that you didn't even play half of the game.

The literal only thing I don't like about the game is that the Balloon line of spells are broken as all hell

It actually runs really smoothly compared to the entries on DS. Just be thankful that the 3DS has the circle pad so the standard KH battle style can be fully implemented with slight changes.

In fact, this entry is the closest one to the PS2 entries out of all the Nintendo system entries in terms of gameplay.
