Title: Back to School
Post by: Gumballtoid on August 17, 2012, 01:48:53 PM
So, yeah. Many of us have less than a week before classes begin again (and some of us have already began, mind you). I thought it would be a good idea to get a thread going. Concerns about the new year? Something in particular you're looking forward to? Particular goals and such in set? Feel free to discuss all that here.

So I just got my classes schedule this morning. I've been told Sophomore year is the easiest by far, but I'm pretty skeptical. I guess we'll have to see what the year holds.

Who told you that? In my opinion, Freshman year was the easiest so far. Although, since I'm just going into Sophomore year, I shouldn't really be saying anything.

Anyway, Best of luck to everybody for their next school year!

Ahah, actually I'm the one that told him sophomore year is easiest. I dunno, it was easier than my freshman year for me by far, but I'm going to be a junior this year. I've heard junior year is the hardest.

For the very first time in my life. I can say. Have fun! I don't have school anymore (for now). After schooling all my life and jumping straight into college, feels good to finally be able to have a break from it all. Except, now comes all the responsibilities of life. Enjoy school life while you can. :ugeek:

I start school as a Sophomore on September 5th. Hooo boy, let's hope this year wont be frustrating as balls like last year.
But then again, if it weren't for one specific class, I would've had MUCH smoother sailing in freshman, if anybody cares I could tell a little story involving this.

So, politics and sociology are in my future in a couple of weeks.

Freshman.
...
Oddly enough, I find myself not enjoying the company of most others my age.
Such rampant immaturity is borderline intolerable, yet most my age demonstrate this
trait I simply cannot stand.
...
Sophomores and up more commonly display a tolerable level of social awareness.

About to be a college freshman here.  Is it bad that I'm majoring in chemistry, but I only took 1 chemistry class and that was sophomore year in high school? It also wasn't AP chemistry.

Good thing its at an easy college to pass everything

Well, no. You were one of them, but I have a few upper-classmen as friends who have said quite nearly the same thing.

Disdain towards students of your age isn't really odd at all, Dave. Most everyone in my class last year, and most likely this year, are intolerable beyond all reason this would be why most of my friends these days are online, whereas I had come off as much more socially-aware to such a degree that many upper-classmen thought I was a Sophomore or even a Junior last year.

I took Honors English II this year, but I really don't see how I managed that since I've nearly failed English more than once before, but I'm not complaining.

Senior year at a really sh*tty school with all AP classes. I'm glad it's my last year. I want to leave this place. The people in my AP classes are the only people in my town with common sense. Everyone else is like a form of mutant from dead space. I loathed my speech class last year.
This one girl had to give an improv speech over twitter, and didn't even know what it was :S

I do have one concern but I need to give you some back story to it
This on quiet kid in my school Who hangs around me and my friends we never payed attention to him because when we talked to him he either said weird stuff or not talked at all. So in order to get attention he decided to "come out of the closet" this was obviously a lie Because he showed no signs to it and also he constantly bashed gays and the multitude of guys who have made advances to him go no response. But still nobody cared because gays were not the kind of thing to make fun of unless you want to get slamed up the ass with a cease an desist so nobody cared. He of course saw that his plan had failed an decide to get violent. Since I live near him I walk home with him and he decided to stab me with a pencil. I told the principle and she didn't believe me. Me and my friends told him to stop hanging around us and he got more violent the principle didn't believe any of us. What should I do this year? But alas this is the internet so I doubt any of us could care and I cant blame you.
Title: Re: Back to School

Well you could try to call the cops, if things get violent.
Try hiding a video camera next time you go past his house and get video evidence.
Lastly if he gets too violent, fight back.

So I finished my first week as a sophomore in my second year at the greatest high school known to man (not kidding). Got good classes with good teachers, but I have to climb lots of stairs ._. Thankfully, next week I start my art conservatory classes (my school has an arts program split in to conservatories like music, writing, dance, and you have to audition into one of these conservatories to even get into the school), and I'm hyped for it because I'm in commercial music, best conservatory ever.

So, first impressions of freshman year ahoy:

-Honors Biology teacher looks like my orthodontist (which isn't that bad) and is somewhat jovial. Seems like Science should be a nice class to coast through (coasted through Earth Science last year with a 100% average ftw)

-I know I won't like Honors English when the teacher makes too many bad jokes to even comprehend and the supply list is 20 miles long

-Spanish (no Honors option :() teacher talks like my aunt for some reason. It's...kinda creepy. Otherwise, seems like an OK teacher. Plus, most homework will be on the computer yay

-Honors Global History looks like it's going to be a pain in the ass to do the work for because of the huge workload it demands. Teacher seems okay though

-Marching Band is okay so far, learning basic drills and such. Teacher's also pretty cool too, but our district has a pretty good track record when it comes to band teachers

-Geometry Honors teacher is probably the nicest and it looks like I'm going to have a really easy year in that subject

-I'm the only freshman in computer programming :( They're missing out, because it seems like a great class too.

-The school is a pain in the ass to navigate because the signs are so tiny and there are huge traffic jams everywhere

-My locker is quite out of the way of my route to the buses :(

-Speaking of buses, I COULDN'T EVEN FUCKING FIND IT. There are buses FUCKING EVERYWHERE and not ONE of them was my bus.

And that is my rant thing. Enjoy~

"X Country A" can really work you to death on Wednesdays. Luckily I have been running 5 miles once a week over the summers, So I wasn't terribly sore... But trust me on this. If you haven't ran in forever and you haven't ran in forever, then good luck trying to endure the pain of walking class to class (especially if your next class is on the other side of the school D:). Also, it doesn't help that its so fucking hot over here!

But yeah... The only AP class I'm actually taking is Chemistry AP

My first year in high school can be described in three words.

You ready for this

I'm not sure if you are

(click to show/hide)

Minus my robotic Honors Biology teacher though, my classes are pretty damn cool.

I have an overly energetic Spanish woman for my Honors Spanish III. Fun and still keeps troublemakers in line.
My programming teacher is the best damn thing and I love third period because of him alone.
Fourth period is Honors Geometry and I get a pregnant woman. It's a recipe for disaster but I'll take it.
The bridge between fourth and fifth period is lunch, where I developed one of five things I'm proud of

(click to show/hide)

Fifth period is Honors Biology with robot lady.
Sixth period is AP WORLD HISTORY and I'm 792% scared because I have a crazy Japanese man with a golf club
Seventh period is Honors English 9 with a very nice substitute for like 6 weeks and I really don't want her to leave she's the only teacher I've ever had who'd rather talk about cats than the curriculummmmmm.

So yeah it's not like you cared about the daily life of LlamaHombre but here it is anyways

Post by: Gumballtoid on September 06, 2012, 01:36:19 AM
Ye, might as well describe my day for the sake of it.

I got Geometry for First Period. Pretty damn easy, which makes it real slow.
U.S. History during Second Period. Again, easy and slow.
Advanced College Computer Skills for Third Period. I can safely say this is the only class I legitimately enjoy.
Phys Ed for Fourth Period. I can safely say this is the only class I hate with a burning passion.
Between Fourth and Fifth is lunch. I'm usually unbearably hot, since I'd been outside the period before.
Fifth Period is a Study Hall. I'm the only one sitting next to an outlet; it's practically begging me to use my laptop.
Sixth Period is Biology. It's ridiculously slow but it's pretty easy.
My last class, Seventh Period, is Honors English II. It's only got 8 students total; it's quaint and I dislike it greatly.

Fortunately there's plenty of time after school for me to do stuff so I needn't worry a whole lot and I just go through the day slowly.

Alright, I may as well give you a run-down of my classes too

I have first period P.E. Llama knows how I feel
Second period is Honors Bio, the teacher's okay, nothing too special, I find it rather fun
Third period is lunch, where I pretty much do homework for 40 minutes after eating
Fourth period is Honors World History
Fifth is Honors English with the BESTŪ teacher ever
Sixth is Geometry where I'm mixed with Sophomores and that scares me very much
Seventh is Bass Chorus with the true BESTŪ teacher ever
Eighth is German. It's easier than I thought it would be. I take pleasure in destroying my vocal chords, after all

TECHNICALLY, Summer hasn't ended yet!!!! I just googled, "Summer" and it says that Summer ends in the 21st!

Anyways,
(click to show/hide)

For the first quarter everything is great! Things couldn't of been better!
My english teacher Ms.Happy, is awesome! Reading is going to be fun with her!
My math teacher is also cool! His name is Mr. Thibeodeu. (Prononced Mr. Tibodow) He asked for all of our names in the class and then asked us what is our favorite thing to do, what our favorite color is, is we have siblings, etc. Ofcourse I said airsoft, my #1 hobby.
My computer lab teacher's name is Mr.Rodriguez. He is the type of guy who can make a joke but be serious and not smile about it. In the class, I'm using a program called,"Microtype" which helps you type better and more quickly. Whatever, easy A.
Finally, my first woman Phys Ed teacher, Ms.Lynnette. All we do pretty much is run laps, and then it's freetime for the rest of the hour and twenty minutes.

Yeah, this quarter is going to go juuuuust fine.

it's actually not that bad

I had the first class session of Psychology, and it seems to be a solid "meh". My fellow students are all interesting and friendly, and the teacher is really nice and is willing to help out the students at any time (even giving us her cell phone number so we can text her with questions; apparently if you call her she'll metaphorically beat your head in with a shovel so texting is a must). I'm still not a fan of the subject, but I was partially warmed up by a few things in the second chapter. I don't know whether I'm going to even like Psychology, but hey, at least the class is certainly tolerable.

I don't get whats so bad about P.E Being first period. Sure I would prefer it being 6th period so the fun wouldn't go away that fast. P.E. is just that time where you can take a little break from all the school work and just have some fun playing ball or whatever you have to do. I had P.E. 1st period once and it wasn't bad at all, even though I liked it more being 7th period. That way you can have a little fun playing sports, getting some fresh air, meeting new people, chatting with friends, etc. all before heading to last period. That's how 8th period math was so easy for me, I was actually very refreshed. But I'm talking about intermediate school.

This is my sophomore year schedule

1st Period: X Country B (A) - To tell the truth, our real X Country period begins early in the morning at 6:05 a.m CST. I have to be at school for 5:50 a.m, which means I have to wake up at 4:50 a.m just to eat breakfast and complete my morning chores. 1st period X Country is just, your still continuing your work out from this morning and then you shower. On Tuesdays and Thursdays it's usually actually Study Hall for me.

2nd Period: Graphic Design and Illustration I - Most enjoyable class so far. Teacher is fairly old, but still manages to be a fun teacher. I'm apparently the only Sophomore in here. No Freshmen, only Juniors and Seniors D:

3rd Period: World History - Nowhere near as bad as my first 2 weeks in World Geography. Once again I have a coach for me History Teacher. At least he's actually 50x better than my old W. Geography Teacher, but he did remind me of why I hated the Magic 8-Ball so freaking much. Like if you have to go and use the restroom, then good luck getting past that Magic 8-Ball's prediction o.O

4th Period: AP Chemistry - This was unexpecting. I was expecting my teacher to be a huge jerk, but she seems surprisingly energetic. But I guess this is due to the fact that I never took any AP classes before. Seems easy as shit so far.

5th Period: Health Science - The first day of school, we got a 3 week Major Grade project.. Hmmm... At least I finished it and somewhat passed 8D

6th Period: English II - Hey! I got my last year advisory teacher as my English II teacher, when I thought she usually taught Pre-AP only. Yeah, she was the best back in Advisory, and it's no exception here.

7th Period: Pre-AP Geometry - I would've took AP, but I was never good with shapes, so I just said, "Take it Pre-AP". I seriously dislike my Geometry Teacher. She really shows no mercy at all to her students, and only cares for the volleyball players D: (Just Like how Coach Fredrick only cares for his Golf players and actually helps them with shit they don't understand. The most writing and foldable making actually comes from here so far.

After that, I usually just leave for home unless it's Monday or Wednesday where I have afternoon X Country Practice...

My schedule

1st period: Honors World History- It's kinda uneventful, that means a lot since I LOVE history.
2nd period: Special Topics in Math- Basically a quick review of algebra, before I take honors Geometry next semester.
3rd period: P.E-  Least I could say..is that I HATE IT.
Between 3rd and 4th: Lunch- It's fun, I get to talk to my friends, and you can use your phones for about an hour.
4th period: Spanish 1- I actually like it, it's really fun.

2nd semester shedule
1st period: Honors Geometry- ???, but it's problaby going to suck, cuz I hate math.
2nd period: Honors Biology- ???, but i'll problaby enjoy it, I like science.
3rd period: Honors English 1-???
Lunch
4th period: I don't remember the name but it has something to do with microsoft word- I only signed up for it cuz it would be easy credits

I have a block schedule for high school, so thats why I have 4 periods, but they are like 90 minute classes, so I get up and get there at 7:00, school doesn't start til 7:25, and it ends at 2:18.

Erm...
No. Kids HAVE to take PE. Kids can't choose not to participate in Physical Education, they must do it.
It's a rule and I THINK it's a law, i'm not sure on the law part.

Also, two years ago,  my gym teacher in my last year of middle school says that I have to pass gym in order to get into high school. Seems legit. [/not being sarcastic]

Anyways school today was awesome as usual, and it seems that my slick and cool personality got me into the cool kids table at lunch! I probably will sit there rarely though, what about my friends?

The cool kids are seniors by the way, so I think my rep just got buffed.

Class breakdown fuck yeah

Block 1: English with awesome nerdy teacher. YOU CAN ACTUALLY DISCUSS VIDEOGAMES WITH THE GUY.
Block 2: Taekwondo. I'm determined to do better than last year.
Block 3: Algebra 2 with ok teacher. Her voice is kinda nasaly, but she teaches the subject very well.

Block 4: Chemistry with nice teacher. She isn't bad, but it's my first class in the morning (classes are split into 2 seperate days) and I have to climb 6 flights of stairs to get there so I'm tired as fuck in it.
Block 5: Spanish with meh teacher. I wanted the same spanish teacher as last year but noooope, I was put here. I prefer my old teacher.
Block 6: AP World History with awesome as fuck teacher. He's just awesome in every way. EVERY WAY.

Oh yeah then conservatory classes

Monday: Drum lab and beginning piano. I love my drum teacher but know hown to play piano already.
Tuesday: Music tech and bass lab. Learn how to use stuff like garageband and logic but have to carry a bass guitar all over campus ughhh
Wednesday: Rock ensemble and theory. We get together in bands and learn songs that we will perform in shows. And then theory... ugh theory. Any musicians around here know what a pain in the ass theory is.
Thursday: Studio skills and rock ensemble. We learn how to work in a studio, and we do more band n stuff.
Friday: No conservatory on friday wheee

A shocking realization that my Junior year starts in less than two weeks has prompted me to breathe life into this thread for the same reason as before: thoughts and such on the coming year.

While I'm glad I don't have to take Phys Ed anymore, I'm a bit concerned that my brother and I will end up in the same German I class. I'm getting my schedule on Wednesday so I suppose I'll know then.

Seriously? You get TEACHER'S ASSISTANT?!?! I didn't get that in 8th Grade (I'm in 9th now). And do you not do any Algebra in 8th Grade? I finished Algebra 1 and did half of Analytic Geometry (this was collectively known as Accelerated Math 1).
Anyway... (in the following list, "Magnet" is slightly harder than Honors but still gives you a GPA out of 4.5 weighted)

Semester 1-
Magnet Chemistry
Spanish II
Honors 9th Literature
Magnet Foundations (basically Photoshop, Flash, etc.)

Semester 2-
Magnet Biology
Accelerated Math 2 (second half of Analytic Geometry and completion of Algebra 2)
Spanish III
AP Human Geography

Llama, don't you have any prerequisites for AP Computer Programming? We have to do like 4 other courses first.

Nah, I've done QBasic 2-3 years ago.
And I remember none of it.

The thinking of whatever coding I do know I give thanks to WarioWare DIY on that one.
It made things easy to understand without much hassle.
Although that technically isn't coding; rather, it's some form of scripting with IFS/THENS/WHENS/you get the point.
Also I have Petit Computer on my 3ds for any coding desires/attempts to learn some sort of language. I call it the source of all headaches But now I'm just too far off topic so weee.

Not too terribly stressed, though I never did my precalc summer work and that's freaking me out
As it turns out I could have taken JAVA last year because I took Algebra in middle school but that was written in fine print and it slipped over my head.
Oh, but I get to take writing for college.  This is a blessing, and a curse, considering the fact that if I'm writing about a topic shoved down my goddamn throat I can't give any detail because it's stuck in my throat

I don't have school for another week but it's basically.

-Advanced Journalism (And due to my Water Bottle video and the reception it got, It is mostly me making stupid videos every week)

-Russian IV (Not really that hard)
-Band of Boring
-Theater

So I'm pretty set.

How the fuck do you say "Ihnacik"??????????

But anyways first day was today, pretty decent overall. Same Spanish and Computer Science teachers from last year, and only slightly less hectic History stuff so that part's neat.

Old woman for Pre-Calc, boring and strict, nearly instantly hate-able. Class is always silent. It reminds me of my Algebra I teacher. I love it.
Photography teacher has no idea what she's doing
Turns out "Ihnacik" is pronounced eye-nas-ick. Weird but he's pretty decent.
English teacher is bipolar in terms of fun but she's better than the airhead from last year

And robotics starts on Monday~

All this plus my sisters means most/all free time will be going towards 8BDM v4 sooo

Fairly hectic for me, on the flipside.  During homeroom, I was informed five minutes from first period that my first period class was moved to another room in another building

Yeah

Also in AP US I found out there was summer work that was mailed to people and I never got it
Same thing happened in Reading

But everything's shaping up, the only true unfavorable class is photography and that's solely because I know absolutely nobody in that class
Oh and my preAP phys/chem teacher has a spud launcher
I'm dead serious

Period 1 is Honors English with a cool young teacher, class size is huge but it looks like fun
Period 2 is Euro History which is blech because there's only like 9 people in it but at least two of them are my friends
Period 3 is Chemistry with another cool young teacher who's kind of jittery
Period 4/5 on most days is P.E. which would normally suck but I got an awesome teacher so it's better than usual
Period 6/7 is study hall
yeah

Period 8 is lunch

yeah

Period 9 is French which is easily my worst class because it's a hot as hell classroom with 35 people in it and the teacher is- well eh
Period 10 is Theology with the most badass teacher in the world
and Period 11 is Geometry with a... well a definite character to be honest

Quite possibly. In our school, I'd collapse with that much walking. How long are your classes?

ok

So I just got back from Open House and I have my schedule
I go back on the 26th [why]

1st Semester:
1st Block - Honors Spanish III
2nd Block - Honors Civics and Economics
3rd Block A-Day - AVID II
3rd Block B-Day - AP Environmental Science
4th Block - Computer Programming I

2nd Semester:
1st Block - Honors Chemistry
2nd Block - Honors English I
3rd Block A-Day - AVID II
3rd Block B-Day - AP Environmental Science
4th Block - Honors Geometry

psst
how the heck do you people manage around 8 classes a day
how does that work

Although my middle school apparently has a 6-block schedule now
it didn't when I was there (it only had 5 blocks and one of them was either for a club or extra class)
