Title: Possible to archive dead Forum Games?
Post by: Beed28 on September 06, 2012, 07:07:06 PM
Currently, when a Forum Game thread dies (no activity for three weeks), it is deleted completely. I kinda find that disheartening, because some of the games are fun to read through (e.g. Megaman battle training (http://www.cutstuff.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=4595)).

I started thinking of this when one of the threads (it had a poll) managed to stay alive for a few months at the bottom before biting the dust. How about that instead of completely deleting the thread, it gets moved to a locked archive subfourm instead (where, again, the post counts don't count)?

If this cannot be done, then I can understand.

That completely eliminates the purpose to why I wanted the purge to begin with >_>

The poll thing however was an oversight on Mikes part, he never checked an option that eliminated threads with poll, which is now fixed.

I have a new idea; how about putting up a visible time limit on each thread, showing you how long until they expire. Is that possible to do?

No it is not.

To be honest, I would love seeing some of the larger forum games (like Island Survival and Mafia) being saved from certain doom. It would be nice to archive those.

But the ones like "Defeat Something" or others probably wouldn't need the same treatment, considering they're just post and done games that don't require much thought.

Yeah, I would love it if it was possible to archive Mafia X and the Island Survivals.

I'm going to toss my hat into the ring and say that certain games really are well suited to being archived, stuff like Mafia, Dappertrap, Island Survival, and other games with lots of flavor or unique premises. Not stuff like 1 word post games though, that would be silly.

Alright, I'll make an archive subforum. Just keep in mind, this is only for the more worthwhile games. A staff member will decide if something is suitable or not.

Kind of stinks that Mafia X and the first Island Survival are already gone... oh, well.

Unless they've already been stashed in a super secret place

Nope, they just get outright purged.

Hmm. That's intresting. When I try to get into the "Pokemon" topic that expired, I get a message stating "The requested topic does not exist.". But when I try to get into the Mafia X or Island Survival 1 topics, which I noticed expired earlier than the Pokemon topic on that day, I get a "You are not authorised to read this forum." message instead.

On a side note, when will we get that special archive subfourm?

It should be available now. But only available for registered users. It's also a read only forum. Aka, you can't post in it.
