You know, I talk about the Ace Attorney series all the time,.and from what I've noticed its quite popular. So I figure I. Might as well make a place to have whatever discussions could arise out of it.

Any thoughts on Apollo Justice getting no more story or character development? It kind of urked me when I saw the announcement for Ace Attorney 5, and that Phoenix was the main character again. It's just sort of a turn off that Apollo's character was whisked away so fast.


I do ask that you put some things in spoilers for people who haven't played all of the games. Because spoilers literally ruin that series in a bad way

I hated Apollo so I couldn't care any more. I loved Trials and Tribulations though. It's hands down one of my favorite games of all time, and a real tear-jerker at that.

Sweet, I've been wanting to start an AA thread for quite some time.

We should totally do amazing polls about the games (Best Prosecutor, Best Witness, etc.)~

As for Mr. Justice, he was always Phoenix minus the loveable for me, so I don't really mind if he wanders into a cornfield with his magician friends and never returns.

To be honest I didn't really mind Apollo. Sure he's no Phoenix, but hey. Also, Phoenix is finally returning to the courtroom? Yes. So much yes.


I recently finished playing Justice for All, but I haven't gotten around to starting Trials and Tribulations yet.

See, I don't like Apollo because of his almost non-capability to figure things out by himself. Almost all of his choices are solely based on what the other characters already figured out and informed him of.

Yeah, the gimmick in AJ was just too over the top for me.  Hopefully the emo-sensor (yes I just called it that) in AA5 will be better.

Also I'm starting to get the feeling I'll be the only one to vote for Mr. Payne~

Payne is the only prosecutor to appear in every single game. I think he deserves a bit of credit for that.

I'll give Payne credit for being the Whispy Woods of the protagonists but that is all the credit he gets.

Since AA5 takes place a year after the events of AA4, I wonder what any of the old characters like Edgeworth, Maya, Gumshoe, and Pearl will look like now after all this time if they even return at all.

I'd love to know what became of Godot, though. He was a tragic character and it seems bizarre for him to die in the same way Dahlia went.

Am I the only person that hates most of the music in Justice for All?

Actually, I dislike all of the themes except Announce the Truth 2002. I absolutely love that one.

I like Hotline of Fate, but JFA definitely has he weakest soundtrack of the series.

My personal favorite of the bunch is T&T's, but PW1 has a really good soundtrack as well. AJ and AAI had hits and misses that never elevated them beyond 'meh' status to me.

I had gotten a real dud when I downloaded JFA's soundtrack, so for the longest time I thought it was the worst in the entire series. (It was the GBA version of the soundtrack, and most of the songs cut off before they even got anywhere.)

But when I actually played the game, I regained some respect for it. Still it's probably my least favorite soundtrack of the series, but I don't dislike it anymore. My favorites are definitely PW1 and AAI.

None of this makes sense. At all. At first I thought Phoenix Wright was supposed to be normal
And it's a little more hard edged than I thought. Most of the stuff is about murder so far.

Except for case 2 in the Trials and Tribulations, which starts as a robbery case, but evolves into a murder case.

Knowing AA I'd say that's a good guess, but I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that he's arrested/under suspicion of murder, kinda like Edgeworth was maybe.

I had the same initial reaction to his new voice as well, but then I remembered that, nostalgia aside, the original 3 clips Wright's voice is based off of were quite old and would sound kinda awkward on the 3DS.

Just found this and I thought sharing it might be nice

Apparently a movie was made in the structure of the first Phoenix Wright title. Naturally it's in all Japanese, but the interpretations of the gameplay are rather humorous and the characters are as wacky as ever. It's not 100% accurate to the games, but it's good enough to the point where that doesn't matter.

It's rather long so I recommend devoting a timeslot to it or something but it's still rather good. Make sure sure you have captions on, though.

Anyways, playing through AA5 at the moment. On Case 2, it's pretty good so far. Couple of things that bug me but I'll just hope they're not prominent.

The first two cases had intros showing who the killer was without going into too much further detail, like the first two cases of the first game. In this case, there's three people standing over the body. I don't know.

gooooodnesss graciooouusssss i was NOT expecting that at all in the final case. there better be more DLC trials coming soon i really hope so. i looved the 3D animations it was so smooth and it portrayed each character's personalities so well!! my personal favorite was case 3 because of the friendship trio stuff going on that i totally related too. ;u;

however, either ive gotten smarter or the game felt way easier than previous games...... plus it was kinda obvious who the killer was in each case except for case 5 because oooopooohh boy that was quite the dozzy.

I'M STILL NOT OVER THAT FULBRIGHT WAS DEAD THE WHOLE TIME WHAT THE HELL

I agree with you in terms of difficulty. It wasn't very hard at all, but I definitely appreciated not being force-fed the solutions like with much of Apollo Justice.

Case 5 was great as usual, with one of the best breakdowns in the series. The idea behind the Phantom only worked as well as it did because they made Fulbright such a strong character. As I was progressing, I only came to truly believe Wright's theory when Fulbright's eyes changed expression after the lighter-gun fingerprint reveal.

If you can't tell, I adore the way Blackquill was played throughout the game. Besides just having a strong personality on his own, his relation and dedication to Athena and Aura really just built him up for me.

Supposedly Case 6 is in the works? There's been a few English screenshots, and they unlock a costume for Phoenix after its completion.

Speaking of costumes, I got the free bundle ASAP and immediately switched Phoenix's look back to his old one. It just felt so much better beating down testimonies with the signature suit. Maybe that's just me though. All in all, easily one of the best in the series. Probably not as good as Trials and Tribulations, but it's at least on par with the first game.

yeeep! there's a case 6 being worked on, i just hope it does grt released and that we have more dlc trials in the future.

also, yeah i figured the game was a tad easy, i remember spending hours during testimonies in the first Ace Attorney.

yeah Simon's character is really fantastic ;w; I love how he was presented as this cold-esque person but was shown to eventually open up a little and is shown to be actually very caring for those around him such as Athena and Aura. Though, I really do hope they eventually reveal who the Phantom is, it's made me super curious ever since.......

i think Phoenix's new outfit looks super cool
but i agree the old suit makes it feel more phoenixy :^), i don't really like athena or apollo's dlc outfits though, Athena's outfit doesn't really feel..... like athena and apollo's casual clothes dont look so great

And I mean I'm glad to get more Blackquill ever but there's two other prosecutors coded into the game. Klavier in particular could have used a little more showtime, I feel.

Yeah, Klavier kind of just showed up as a cameo rather than as a prosecutor for a case. At least we got to have Edgeworth as a prosecutor in this game for a little bit. I also find it a little weird  Fulbright is the detective in this case considering if you played this whole game through first before trying this dlc. I was kind of hoping for at least Ema or Gumshoe to make a cameo appearance instead. Oh well, at least Pearl returned.

EDIT - November 24, 2013: I finally completed this case. I gotta say the climax of the court had a pretty interesting twist this time around. There is also an award for completing this dlc case too referencing something from T&T. I also instantly recognized a phrase from T&T that Phoenix Wright referenced in this case.

I was kind of hoping Capcom would make a game about Gregory Edgeworth or Mia Fey, but this game looks promising too. I suppose this guy does bear a resemblance to Phoenix Wright, except he doesn't seem to have as crazy of a hairstyle.

Sounds incredible if you ask me. The series has kinda lacked the absolute genius it held when Shu Takumi was on board, so seeing him take things for a new spin is always interesting.

On a different note, the original trilogy has been repackaged again for the 3ds, but no words on an English release have been spoken. The game has an English setting though so if anyone here has a Japanese 3ds then you're golden.

I was getting tired of that stuff, they really took away from the genuine deaths and testimonies.
I kind of hate what the Fey clan had to offer to the game.

The Judge is the best character by far. He just eats Cheez Its and the bone. He also doesn't take shit from Von Karma

I just finished playing through Layton Vs. Wright, and enjoyed it for the most part. The unique twist on testimonies was neat, as was the medieval-fantasy setting and how Phoenix reacted to it. The graphics and music were wonderful, and it was cool having classic Phoenix Wright and Maya taking on new cases. I've never played any of the Layton series before, but I enjoyed the brain-teaser puzzles too; the investigation parts of AA games can be a little dry, so I think Layton's contribution of puzzles helped in that regard.

...was how all the magic of the world turned out to be not really magic, but "advanced technology". It's funny, because it's usually the opposite situation that annoys people (explaining anything fantastic with "it was magic") but in this case, especially since this was a special crossover, I think letting magic be magic would have been better than such a far-fetched end-game reveal. [Also, it's not like Maya's a magical spirit medium or anything.]

On one hand, it let the people of the town be real, which is sort of neat (especially since they could show up in the DLC chapters), but since they freely break the 4th wall in those chapters anyways, it wasn't totally necessary either.

Besides that issue, the story was pretty fun. Plus, seeing Edgeworth at the end (and in the next-to-last DLC chapter) makes me forgive the twist because Edgeworth rocks.

I do hope they localize the newest one, because I'm all for a drastic change in setting/characters/gameplay. I remember the first time I played AA4 I was a little weirded out by it because the tone and setting was so different, but after playing AA5 I went back and played it again and enjoyed it a lot more.
