Title: My 24/7 public server
Post by: Brandon on July 13, 2010, 05:34:46 AM
I'm hosting a 24/7 server. I love this game and want to see more people playing it. If you have any issues or requests for a second server let me know and I'll get right on it.

Mr. X's map pack server now up, same IP address but the port number is 10667!

Hostname/IP : 16bit.doesntexist.com // 76.174.232.116
Port : 10666
Location : So Cal

25 frag limit per map

News/Updates
August 5, 2010
There should be no more downtime unless there's a power outage. Sorry for the inconvenience.
July 24, 2010
Server has been moved over to new hardware and a shiny new OS. There should be no lag issues, etc with this new setup.
July 17, 2010
New server came in today, apparently it was shipped to me with faulty RAM, go figure.

Updated to latest version of SkullTag, be sure you update before playing on the server! Also the server now appears in the Master Server list again, woohoo!
July 13, 2010
Server will have downtime this week due to an upgrade, whenever USPS delivers my new server it will be changed over as quickly as possible. Also the server is not showing up on the SkullTag master server, use the IP/hostname to connect. Tracking link for USPS so you can estimate the downtime : here (http://trkcnfrm1.smi.usps.com/PTSInternetWeb/InterLabelInquiry.do?origTrackNum=9102128882300228354686).

Added server location so you know what type of ping to expect.

It seems to work well for right now, I'll probably have to change it later if there are a lot more players.

Thanks, let me know how it goes if it's laggy or anything.

Also should I keep it unlimited ammo or change it back to normal? I forgot even set this.

Make it limited. The game is much more challenging with limited ammo, and it forces players to rethink their strategy.

Server is currently down due to lightning storms in my area, unable to vnc to the server from my phone. Eta to it being back up is about 6 to 7 hours when I get back from class.

Edit : Home sooner than I thought, server is back up. I'll keep an eye on it to make sure it stays up this time.

The server upgrade is definitely not happening anytime soon. The server was sent to me with what I thought was bad RAM, turns out the VRM for the first CPU was busted completely and I can't run it off just the second CPU. (It's a Dual Xeon, hence 2 CPUs) So the server stays up on the box it's hosted off for now.

Edit : Ignore the above, I found a cheap replacement that hopefully works. Link for anyone interested (eBay auction) here : link (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120595810472&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT).

Could you change the settings of your server so that people spawn further away from other players?  I just played a match where I spawned into gunfire 50% of the match.

Server's been playing the up and down game for a few days. Should be ok now, I just kept forgetting to restart the server after Windows would restart for an update.

Another server is up with Mr. X's map pack. Put the port as 10667 using the same IP/hostname!
